I’m loving your Hibernation Day! I’m going to have to put that one “on my list”. I definitely understand the need to avoid certain activities for the sake of one’s mental health rather than physical health. 💚
A very nice icy videoclip, Caroline :) It reminds me of my childhood when I spent lots of winters on the frozen ponds iceskating 😁 Later as a university student I had a compulsory ski lessons where we would go on the frozen parts of Moscow river canals :) Not sure I would do it now though 😁😁😁
Having grown up in Minnesota (Land of 10,000 Lakes) I've done my share of ice sliding. But a trek to your island....I'd be cozing up with a hot chocolate by the fire and wishing them a safe journey!
I saw the little animals in the corner as cats. I can't unsee them now, and Olive, my MC girl, agrees with me. I love this entire design, and Olive gives you a paws up 🤣🤣🤣
Loved the video Caroline..had to chuckle when you were talking about lakes & ice, & having watched you now for many years…great video of Nicholas ! having lived in MN most of my life which is the land of over 10,000 lakes you have many opportunities 😅🤗🛷🦌
You're right about your "Hibernation Day" piece being not for everyone. I've no problem with the text (poetry) being broken up -- but I'm a widow, and there is no "you" (other) in my life. This piece touches my heart, but I will never stitch it. P.S. I grew up in southwest Quebec; my mother and step-father built a cottage on a bay in the St. Lawrence where we summered every year (often from Easter through Thanksgiving, with long drives into school). In the winter we would go up there and skate across the bay. It was completely frozen over; under the ice, the water was not deep -- not even as little ones was it over our head. Just waist to chest high. And the ice was very thick. Pockets of snow, yes. Windy, yes -- but not gale force winds as on Georgian Bay. Your son's sliding on the ice reminded me of this time in my life, a good 60 years ago. Where that time went, I've no idea...
I was born and raised in Wawa, the true North, but still not because it's more like the middle of Ontario, but winters were so cold and had so much snow, all the weather came off Lake Superior. Anyway, friends of the family had 6 kids close in age, from slightly older than my brother to slightly younger than me (3 girls, 3 boys). For entertainment in the winter, those kids would pack rucksacks with snacks and thermoses of hot chocolate, and they would skate on Wawa Lake, 10 km, from the local beach at one end and all the way to the other end and back. I only found this story out when I ran into one of the brothers in the dressing room at a London arena. His daughter and our daughter were on the same ringette team. We had lots of time during the games to catch up, and when he told me this skating the lake story, I thought what a brilliant idea! Side note - no chance anyone would fall through. Every year the town put an old jalopy, usually a Beetle, onto the ice about 100' from the shore, and people bet on when the car would sink through the ice, for charity. It usually went down in April or May. That's how cold it was and for so long! 😅
@lindsayschoures7095 It's not referred to as central, but visually on the map of Ontario, it's vertically in the middle. It's definitely true North though.
My husband’s grandma had a cottage on one of the islands in Georgian Bay. It has since been sold but family friends did invite us to visit a few years ago. It was my first time and I loved it so much. We took a bit of a boat tour so maybe we passed by your cottage at one point.
I've lived in south central ontario my whole life and I'll never walk across a frozen lake, I don't care how many cars it will hold or how thick the ice is.
pssst its christmas tree 4 ;) i have the same problem with counted canvas and my hands. very sad. A Stitching Shop in Denver, Colorado is where I order most of my canvas supplies
Too funny, I also am a “feet on the ground” girl! I don’t mind boats, but planes make me crazy. I also don’t like bridges. But I am putting my fears aside to fly to Toronto in April for Stitch North! Where there’s a will there’s a way! Great videos, I’m behind due to an injury, but I’ll catch up. Love seeing you everyday. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
After I watched Jacob's flossmas this morning, I ran to get the sampler. So sweet! Is this becoming two turtle doves in our Holiday Countdown? I am loving it. My initials have replaced the two dogs. Tomorrow or Friday, I am going to buy a frame so it can be fully finished on Christmas Day when I finish the stitching. Hibernation Day is so wonderful! Happy flossmas ❄
I agree with you regarding going out on the ice. I'm in Sault Ste. Marie and there is a lot of ice fishing going on up here. My husband has tried getting me out there (even on a skidoo). NO WAY! Take care. Love the videos.
Your Hibernation Day is simply beautiful. It feels so warm. And Wow for your Christmas tree. It is stunning. I've been out on the ice before in a car to go visit someone who had a fishing cabin. Here also the ice is closely monitored but still it's not my favorite thing.
I get my counted canvas supplies from stitch-it central (London ON) or 123 Stitch: Mono canvas, stretcher bars, etc as well as all the threads. Charts I get from various designers all over the web. I flip back and forth between cross stitch and counted canvas. I'm thinking of adding embroidery or Hardanger next. Gotta keep me interested by learning new things!
Thank you!! I didn’t actually know that Stitch it carried that! Clearly I haven’t needed to purchase any for years because of my stash Thank you so much!
@barbarawest1205 Yes you have to try. There's a lot of different stitches to learn but it goes so much faster than cross stitch. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Different UA-cam channels cover how to prep canvas in stretcher bars, how to do the stitches, etc. No excuses! 😁
I’m there with you two on walking on frozen water other than a river that I know is not deeper than me and I got to do that 2 days ago on the river at my friends cabin. Beautiful color again today.
Yesterday’s video sent me down a counted canvas rabbit hole. I loved the tree finish that you posted and visited the shop that you referenced. I then became obsessed with the pattern “Christmas Tree IV”. I had a chuckle when you held it up finished and framed, in today’s video. I guess I need to go back and finish my checkout process From Nancy’s Needle. I haven’t tried needlepoint, but I do many other types of stitching and handwork. Do you think this project is too ambitious for a beginner?
😂😂😂 that is too funny. The really great thing about the Nancys Needles charts and designs is that they are very well laid out with great instructions so I totally think those are doable (with effort and maybe the odd UA-cam video) for a beginner.
I do canvas work and get them from Needlepoint Place here in Winnipeg - she is brick and mortar and also online. She is actually an artist and creates her own painted canvas designs which she hand paints herself. She has Christmas stockings, larger canvas pieces as well as smaller pieces in series - snowmen, Santas, angels, eggs - she has had many over the years. She has done pieces for me on different subjects - so she does commission designing. You can get other supplies for designs/patterns that you buy elsewhere. Hope that helps whoever is looking for help.
Hibernation day is beautiful. Great job on that. Enjoy seeing you everyday. I loved the ice video. That is scary. ❤

Wow, Hibernation Day is amazing.
The Christmas tree you stitched is so beautiful!!

Thanks for the video clip of Nicholas on the ice.
Wow I love hibernation 🪡🧵♥️✨
We have friends who have a summer home in the Georgian Bay. Would love to visit someday. 😊
Loved your counted canvas work. I have a couple of Nancy’s pieces.
I saw the little animals in the corner as cats. I can't unsee them now, and Olive, my MC girl, agrees with me. I love this entire design, and Olive gives you a paws up 🤣🤣🤣
I saw them as cats also, and since that is what I have, that's what mine are going to be.
🥰
Your canvas tree is stunning!!!

Thank you for sharing your heart Margaret, I know you must miss your husband.
Lovely video. You have been mentioning your pork chop recipe on a few occasion. Please share the recipe. Your making us hungry ❤
I’ve found canvas supplies at Gitta’s in Port Credit On. At least they did when I was last there.

I'd never really thought of Wawa as central Ontario LOL I've been there a few times

What great memories!!!

Maybe you did!!
Needle in a Haystack. Fireside Stitchery. Twisted Stitches. All are great places to get needlepoint supplies.
Thanks for the additional suggestions!

Well Caroline, I went and ordered 2 counted canvas kits from Nancy because yours look so beautiful. Can't wait till they arrive😃
Sorry not sorry 😜 🥰
I’m with you. Not sure I could do that.

I love your hibernation day stitch!
And I am so enjoying my advent sal. Thank you for all the work you've put into it for all of us to enjoy🎄

I love this! Well worth it 😉
❤❤❤
That is so magical and also so not something for me either ;)
Right? They've been trying for years to convince me. Not. going. to. happen. 😂

Love the little dogs

Love today's stitching! I think traversing the ice sounds like a grand adventure!

I didn't even think of checking 123 Stitch! I think I have to try at least one counted canvas piece, either Nancy's or Laura Perrin's.
@barbarawest1205 Yes you have to try. There's a lot of different stitches to learn but it goes so much faster than cross stitch. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Different UA-cam channels cover how to prep canvas in stretcher bars, how to do the stitches, etc. No excuses! 😁

Can you post your recipe for the pork chops? Sounds wonderful.
I talk about where to find in the video for tomorrow morning 😉🥰
Do you have any idea where to get either of your counted canvas patterns? I did needlepoint for years.
I do canvas work and get them from Needlepoint Place here in Winnipeg - she is brick and mortar and also online. Perfect - thank you!!
I'll take a look. Thank you!
Are the dogs supposed to have 5 feet? Or am I just crazy!!
🤣 well…. That’s a question for Jacob. 😂
I sent a message to Jacob, hope he doesn’t get upset!
