    Laurie Mains spoke very highly of Frank Bunce. Said he would always pull out one or two plays every test that would turn it the AB's way.

    Those switch plays were beautifully executed, time after time, John Hart likely had a hand in that, great coach.

      @@Trajan2401 Nah. Umaga was nowhere near as good at linking with his wings. Roberson wasn't as good at breaking the line, which always surprised me given his sheer pace.

    9:20 Frank Bunce scores his second of the night after being called "too old and too slow" by the (generally shit-house) NZ media building up to the test,
    "Too old, too slow, 2 tries" Read the headline the following Monday..good on ya Buncey.
    Thanks Real Rugby for uploading something for us AB fans, very sporting of you and much appreciated!

    Just something I think worth mentioning, as I spotted him in a couple of frames. The great Joost Van Der Westhuizen. It hits me a bit seeing him as my best mate died of MND. A player that I dreaded as an AB's supporter. But always admired as one of the true greats. Great is a word well and truly overused these days. There are very very few true greats. Joost was one. RIP.

    This was brilliant! Surely a golden age for the game. SA, NZ, even Scotland had a decent team (decent ish) . The early days of professionalism and there so much hope. How did we get to the modern game from this "golden age"?

    • @RealRugby

      Who knows what went wrong... I think it has a lot to do with the laws. Look at refs like Paddy O' Brien, Andre Watson and Jonathan Kaplan, they didn't blow every little thing, they let the game flow and let teams play. Advantage wasn't allowed to go on forever, if you made some meters, advantage was over and the game went on. The scrums were also left for the front rows to sort out, no reset after reset after reset

    • @paulmulryne8405
      @paulmulryne8405 3 роки тому +1

      @@RealRugby Yep - the game has just got more and more complex, when it could just have stayed as it was (probably minus the way the scrum goes down and head injury protocols.)

    Our Bok supporters always brag that Lomu never scored against us - just wish we could say the same about Cullen. He was such a powerful force in open play and when he touched the ball there was trouble. I watched his video and he is definitely one of my favourite players of all time.

    I know its likely just me, but your vids are very Bok centric if you will. You highlight other legendary players from other countries, sure, but this is nice to see. Its a celebration of rugby. As one fellow noted, as a bok supporter, it;s painful, but as a fan of rugby, this was a lovely watch. This was just a reminder of just how good Bunce was. He would have been a force even with the stronger, faster, better drilled players of today. Same thing with that man Gerber in my humble opinion. Please keep up the good work. One last question, what would be the best way to get in touch with you?
    I have a question about some of your archives.

      New Zealander here. I was always a fan of Danie Gerber. It's sad we saw so little of him internationally.
      I remember he played for a World 15 against a Northern hemisphere selection. John Kirwan was outside him. The two of them cut the Northerners to shreds. I almost felt sorry for them...... almost.
      Yes, Bunce was brilliant also.
