They were the only ones that made a legitimate big pile of money simply smoking dope. Of course, being the only ones, they were national heroes to be admired by all.
I first heard their album back in the 70’s as a young boy and it definitely had a strong influence on my sense of humour. Dave? Dave? Dave’s not here........
So many memories growing up hearing this type of comedy for the first time. 1972 I was 13 and knew what weed was...... I brought the album "Smoking" (with a giant rolling paper!) home and my mom made me get it out of the house! Along with a Richard Pryor album. Their "Next Movie," in my opinion of course, was the best. It was one of only three movies we had to watch in Korea for one year. Blazing Saddles and Friday the 13th were the other two. Wasn't my choice, not into the horror bullshit. Into the 80's I was out to Sea and didnt see much of them after that.
I never did like the "Friday The 13th" series. Nah! I was a huge fan of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" series. Cheech and Chong, though... those guys are hilarious!
Next Movie took what was brilliant about Up in Smoke and refined it. It's the superior movie IMO, but only just. They are actually works of art, both visually and comedically. Both have that beautiful Technicolor look and are full of great photography, music, and brilliantly talented and funny actors. But Next Movie gives the most bang for your buck, laughs wise. I laughed like a demented person right up until the last scene of them shooting into space with The Pretenders playing the movie out. Absolute masterpiece. The old lady (also the school secretary from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) was so hilarious, as was Pee Wee Herman.
As a 13 year old me and a friend was camping out at friend's grandma's farm way out in the sticks, it began to rain so we headed to grandma's where grandma cooked us up some rice and we sat to eat, James (friend) found an 8 track tape we had never heard of,,Cheech and Chong, talking and half listening to tape when the part of judge ordering bailiff to "whack his pee-pee: blurted out, we both had just taken a bite and both of us spit rice all over the kitchen with laughter , it was his brother's tape and that was introduction to the duo. good memory
Still love these guys as much today as I did 40 years ago. They touched and inspired generations or at bare minimum made you laugh your ass off. Glad they smoked the peace pipe and reconciled.
I love these guys! I use to see their movies at drive-in with my boyfriend. We didn't toke, but we smuggled in Boone's Farm, and got real drunk watching Cheech and Chong! We'd have to wait until almost dawn to sober up! Good Times.
We got to see them in Berkeley, Ca. Oh my God, we laugh so damn hard. They did all the classic skits from the albums and more. The smoke in the place was like fog. During the show the power went down so we all were sitting there in the dark cheering and yelling on and on burning up the cigarette lighters. This went on for almost 5 minutes or so. And then stage left, out comes Chong with a flashlight yelling out, “ Hey man, what the hell happened to the lights man”. Everyone totally fell apart. Other hundred joints lit up with Chong on stage. Finally they got the power back up and continued the show. We Laughed so hard that night that our sides were hurting. Best show ever. Thank you guys.

But of course I listened to the entire record over and over when unsupervised, lol.
i have been a diehard fan since 12 years of age and i hope to one day meet them as well as when i was in high school Drama class i always played characters like Chong they helped me with some good memories during a tough time dealing with constant bullying
I named my dog Cheech and then I thought "now I need to get a cat and name it Chong, and I have Cheech and Chong everyday in my house, they are best friends,,,😆😉😊
Playing stoned hippies worked well for Cheech and Chong. They have made a living out of acting spaced out for more than 50 years.
The thing is far as I understand they were Actually smoking weed
@@Darkstar301 That makes it better.
They were the only ones that made a legitimate big pile of money simply smoking dope. Of course, being the only ones, they were national heroes to be admired by all.
Playing?
I first heard their album back in the 70’s as a young boy and it definitely had a strong influence on my sense of humour. Dave? Dave? Dave’s not here........
‘Ya, I got a question.....Who cut your hair??’ 😂🤣😂🤣😂Claaaassssss
😂😂😜
THat was based upon a real incident where Tommy locked Cheech out of the recording studio.
"I wasn't lookin' at his neck man." 😁
Who is it!
It's me Dave, I got the stuff.
REPEAT LINE ABOVE 2 MORE TIMES.
Daves not here🤣😅😂
They share a brotherly love that can never be broken.
Up in smoke is one of my iconic early movies. Loved those silly films.
I Remember Buying The Album That Was Like A Car Door When I Was 13 & Playing It Over & Over. 'Born In East L.A.' Is Great. Thank You.
I agree " Next movie" was awesome. Saw it late-night on a AF base.
Yep. As classic and awesome as Up In Smoke is, Next Movie is probably my favorite too. Funny from beginning to end! "Hey man that's soap!" 🤣
@@mikewillett5076 While you were singing that, I wrote another song.........HA HA HA HA
A pleasantly surprising ending for such an iconic duo.
Saw up in smoke as a kid with my dad. Didn't understand what made my dad laugh at that movie so much until I was a teenager.
Their first albums were much better than any of their movies.
"Next Movie", brilliant comedy. Writing, acting, editing, directing. Everything.
Hey man......am I driving ok?.......
I think we’re parked man.....
Ohh
That actually happened to me on acid, i was parked in the middle of a roundabout thinking i was on the highway😂
😂😂😂😂
I need your license.. it's on the bumper man
🤣
As a 13 year old me and a friend was camping out at friend's grandma's farm way out in the sticks, it began to rain so we headed to grandma's where grandma cooked us up some rice and we sat to eat, James (friend) found an 8 track tape we had never heard of,,Cheech and Chong, talking and half listening to tape when the part of judge ordering bailiff to "whack his pee-pee: blurted out, we both had just taken a bite and both of us spit rice all over the kitchen with laughter , it was his brother's tape and that was introduction to the duo. good memory
My favorites of Cheech and Chong are Earache My Eye and Santa Claus And His Old Lady.
‘It was the magic dust..’ ‘he gives a little bit to the reindeer, a little bit to Santa Claus... a little bit more to Santa Claus..’ classic bit..
Forgot...... mine is Ralph & Herbie.... ‘it’s FiFi!!’
Number 1 classic Tommy Chong is as ‘ Man ‘ at the drive-in where he breaks the key in the trunk - “ Oh WOW”
Good Times.
Strawberry -tickle pink-?????
@Linda Mae Mullen: it's the best Boone's!
No mention of Tommy Chong as Leo on That 70's Show?
Thought the same thing, Love that show. He was great on it, perfect fit
What's the problem Occifer?
I graduated high school in 1974 and That 70's Show was far more "true to life" than most people realize.
@Mark Richards I was born in 59.
You do the math.
YEPPERS --- That 70's Show

The 70's --- PERFECTLY.
It couldn't have come out at a more perfect time.
I loved 74 all the way through the 80's.
I went to SSSOOOOOOO many parties and concerts.
The millennials now have NO IDEA what went down all through this period.
I love C n C.
Everyone knew me as Mr. Cool.
I was pretty much Tommy in my area.
Long story - no time to type.
Yep 🤷♀️
I CAN REMEMBER THEMS WAY BEFORE THE MOVIES.ON THE CARS RADIOS ABOUT (THE MAGIC DUSTS)AND THE STORY ABOUT THE TEACHERS. WHERES SO FUNNY IN THE RADIO STATIONS BACKS LIKES 1971-1973.GREATS TEAM.
I have fond memories of these guys from my childhood. Most of my memories are "hazy" from that period, but I'm pretty sure they were fond. lols
I love these guys....."Up in Smoke" was the best comedy motion picture in the late 70's.
I remember when Up in Smoke first came out in the theater. I went with my parents and all I remember is the last scene of the movie and the sweet smell of weed lingering in the theater.
😂😂🥰
Saw these guys live on stage in melbourne a couple of times in early 70s. Numerous records and movies later and now a non smoker they still make me laugh outloud, absote classics
“Born in East LA” a story about getting accidentally deported? Yeah. So was “Up in Smoke”. Best movie ever. Greatest first ten minutes of ANY comedy!
Cheech's mom was my high school counselor in Mission Hills, CA in the 80's. She wasn't very enthusiastic about talking about him.
Did she go by "Sister Mary Elephant" back then?
@@radar0412 lol 😂😂😂😂 classic
What would you expect. Her son was a dope smoking loser going nowhere.
@@richardbonfiglio1765 Well that’s what she thought…but Cheech got the last laugh!
@@richardbonfiglio1765 people don't call cannabis dope anymore. If you say dope smoking, people think of meth now. Also smoking weed don't make someone a loser.
I'm 71, had my own house when they started recording their stuff. We listened to them along with other cool artists such as Congress of Wonders and Firesign Theater. Any time any of our friends found something new we would all get together to listen to it until we couldn't stay awake anymore.... Early morning, usually. 💋💖💋💖😁😆😆😆🌟🌠🍿
Up in smoke might be the best comedy of all time IMO . They made fun of everyone and it was hilarious
just watched up in smoke today
10/10 In love with it
The OG’s up in smoke and the next movie are still funny as hell!
Two great pieces but The Next Movie was always my favorite
"the untold truth"
aka
"the truth that was told but you weren't born yet"
Saw them LIVE at Sydne Opera House due g 5he 70's.... I used to have the album 'Big Bam Bu' & have watched their navies a number of times.... personally I like them, I'm 68 years of age & still a stoner.... much like Cheech & Chong
I was introduced to Cheech and Chong when I was 10 years old. I found an 8 track in a stack of 8 tracks my parents had with an R.C.A. 8 track player. It came with these massive, heavy, 1/4 jack R.C.A. headphones that would fall off my little head if I didn't hold them in place.
It was Big Bambu. I was hooked immediately, even though I didn't get a lot of the references and jokes, I was drawn to them.
I am 52 now, and love them just the same. I am thrilled that their Legacy Lives On.
Here's to ya Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong! Much Love. ♥️🙏✌️🖖
(Hey Tommy... It's 4:20 somewhere! 🤟😉)
I remember Cheach on celebrity jeopardy.
Smoking weed is a myth for being dumb
He mopped the floor with the competition
Smart dude
I never even smoked weed and I thought they were incredibly funny! I loved their human take on real people, their lack of meanness and their ability to make heros out of everyone. They were, and are relevant today. You don't have to be a big wig, wheeler dealer, to be cool, you can do what makes you genuinely happy, and be even cooler!
Got through college with a 4.0...smoked weed almost daily...Im an engineer...
@@deadendkid1968 still smoking?
❤️
@@deadendkid1968
My husband is a very successful sound engineer, and smokes daily. I don't smoke, but only because I never enjoyed smoking, but I did find a very old biography of Alice B. Toklas in a used bookstore that has her recipie for pot candy!! I'm planning to try that sometime. The recipie was excised from many editions of her book, which is too bad, because it sounds really good, and her recommendations to serve it at your next lady's bridge club meeting is awesome! She says everyone will relax and be in "good humor" after they enjoy these treats!!! Back then it was not considered anything unusual, on par with a glass of champagne or brandy, which I think is very sensible!
We had these albums back before the movie was out. Had the whole thing memorized too! Love these guys!
Dave's not here.
Saw these 2 live over a decade ago with an ex-girlfriend, they covered a lot of their old sketches, yet still drew big laughs from the crowd.
I loved them both never had a favourite, they are both legends in their own way, keep smokin!!!
Love these guys. Can't wait to see their new film
I watched them in Vegas in '72, had an ounce on the table at the Flamingo. was great. I later met Chong at a dispensary in Phx. Best and Patriotic American Hispanic comedians. Comedy today is all about hate.
Cheech & Chong also Appeared In Yellowbeard with Graham Chapman in the Title Role!!!!!!
Thank you Cheech & Chong since mid 1970’s Oh, Canada and I’m a Merkin
Yet another component of growing up in the 80,s that was magical.
I also liked Cheech's performance in "The Shrimp On the Barbie."
MEXXXIIIIICAAANNNNN!!!!
I remember Cheech's Born in East LA song back in the 1980s. That tune still stucked in my head till this day! Good times!
Yet again comedy legends who have Canadian roots. Must be something in our water...
Things are tough all over...Now thats never gets old...I love them all, its hard to pick, but thats my favorite...No wait, NICE DREAMS...lol
And here I thought The Corsican Brothers was their greatest film ever. I use lines from that movie to this day.
I know right? It's got to be one of their funniest films.
@@camerondodge2070 Went over too many peoples heads, because the didn't know the source material, and didn't understand it. If you don't know the original, a parody is just going to completely lose you. I only knew it because it was required reading for one of my College Prep Classes in High School. All that extra school work, and what did I do ? I joined the Air Force !
@@jad43701 That doesn't make sense to me. I had no idea that it was a parody, I just thought it was a funny movie.
@@camerondodge2070 On it's own it was a decent comedy, but knowing what the jokes are about, makes it much funnier. And I am glad you enjoyed it. If you haven't already, I would give Blazing Saddles a try.
@@jad43701 Blazing Saddles was pretty good. Not my favorite Brooks film, but a decent romp all in all. You'll have to get much more obscure for me not to have seen a movie.
Man, When I was living at home with my parents in the 80s highschool,I use to sit on the couch drinking beer and watch these fools, They were funny as hell 😆
I think I watched up in Smoke like 50 times during my sophomore year in college
Still have my VHS,still funny as hell!!
