6.7 Cummins EGR Delete (You don't have to be a mechanic)

  • You don't have to be a mechanic to transform your off-road Ram! Unleash the beast in that Cummins!
    Note: You need to have a tuner and tunes BEFORE doing this. Also, don't do this on the weekend when the place that gives you tunes is closed. You might run into problems and can't get in touch with them! You won't be able to do those farm tasks with your offroad farm truck until they open!
    Finally, *DO NOT* do this on trucks that will be on the road. As with all other videos, this is for education only and *I* am not responsible for things *YOU* do to YOUR (or anyone else's) truck.

    Be careful when taking a deleted truck to your dealership for a recall item. Here in CA, the dealership reported my friends truck to the air resource board and DMV flagged it. He could NOT register it in the state and they required an inspection immediately. He had to license it to a family member in another state.

    That 8mm bolt for the crossover pipe shouldn't be that hard. So many videos of guys mentioning it. The nut on the backside is welded on them all. The bolt comes out from the front like you did it. If you're doing a delete, you're dropping the coolant for sure so take the upper radiator hose and use a regular rachet/short extension.

    Is love to see a follow up video about how your experience has been a year later since you have done these deletes?
    Reliability? Codes? Power improvements? Fuel economy improvements? Your opinion on performance and drivability? Does it roll coal? Any run ins with hwy patrol or fines or anything?
    I'd also love to see more video of the truck running... maybe some drive by footage...

      Well I have been having issues with my video software, so I can't make another video right now. But I will quote what I wrote on another similar response...
      My experience has been really awesome. It definitely has more power, along with better pedal response. I can't tell you much about fuel mileage because I also change tires at around the same time to 35s with a leveling kit. I get about 17.5 miles per gallon but I drive it like a truck, not a race car. I have the 5 position SOTF switch and I keep it on the lowest setting because I do some Towing. I've not had any codes thrown, except for the transmission recall which the dealership fixed with no issues whatsoever, even with the tunes. Needless to say, I'm extremely satisfied with the finished job and the tunes, but I will not go into which tunes I use because that's not the purpose of the video. I will say that I had transmission tuning, which does improve the transmission shifting. It also you're supposed to increase the reliability of the transmission, but again I have had no issues with it except for the recall.

      I did this on my 15 3500 at 120k miles I’ve put 40k on it since then.
      Also straight piped the exhaust and added the EZ link 5 level tuner with the knob that mounts so u can select level 1-5 tune. Zero issues good milage improve for levels 1-2. 3-4 all about heavy tow and stupid power. Only regret was I didn’t do it the min my warranty ran out.
      I’ve recently had CEL which the code says no signal to turbo actuator but I’m told it’s the a actuator itself and it’s about the milage they act up. The light goes off after 1-2 key start cycles haven’t noticed any preformance or drivability issues

    • @saltydawgdiesel2243
      @saltydawgdiesel2243  5 років тому +2

      I believe the very end of the video shows a better view of the coolant reroute because I had issues with the bracket I got (it was made for a pre-2012, long story). I did put the shroud back on, but you can't use all of the bolts because during the delete, you actually remove the brackets that the bolts go into.

      That truck is a 2016 Laramie Longhorn (doesn't make a difference, tho.). I actually ran across the delete kit from an ad where the guy bought it for his 2013 then sold the truck before installing. Came with the EGR hardware, Flopro 4" turbo back exhaust, EZ Lynk, and tunes from a dealer that had to be switched to my truck (they had never been installed). Unfortunately, I don't have any other experience with any other tunes or hardware. I just installed everything and filmed it. I'm not a mechanic or an installer/dealer. I'm just an everyday dude.

      Hi Dave... I've watched many videos on the EGR delete... and I don't see why that wouldn't work.
      I'm planning to do this exact idea... and for the same reason you mentioned... especially because I use my truck commercially for my business. So I'm mostly concerned with reliability and longevity... with maybe a lil performance enhancement. So i dont plan to be ripping around in the highest tune and rolling coal.
      So I'm hoping if it looks like it's there... hopefully that would be good enough...
      Because ehen talking to my mechanic... he pointed out that it should work... and was a good idea if they only visually inspect your vehicle... however... if the put an OBD reader on your truck to check if it's functioning... they will still know right away.

      @@DustinWoloschuk yes obviously that. The problem is if you gut your dpf scr etc. And weld plates inside you need a new ECU and whole new ever system and pipe from the turbo back. When you go in for emissions but except that that seems the best way to go for commercial. Good luck!

    • @DustinWoloschuk
      @DustinWoloschuk 4 роки тому

      @@davidb1089 Thanks for replying!!!
      sorry... i didn't mean "weld" plates... that was auto correct. I meant to say "install" plates. And leave everything in place.
      Also... I'm from Ontario Canada... and luckily are new member of parliament discontinued emission testing... though it is still illegal to delete this stuff... we no longer have to emission test.
      Therefore I'm hoping if i just block everything off... and tune the computer to ignore everything... IF i get pulled over... they will see everything is stl there and let me go.
      I'm just not going to drive around in the highest tune rolling coal everywhere...no need to poke the bear and be an idiot... and hope i get away with it.
      Wish me luck!!!

My buddy has a off road shop and doesn't do them any more do the shops getting hefty fines and he says there's a lot of talks about then making it to where you can't pass emissions without that junk on there. Supposably all the rolling coal and blocking Tesla charging stations has caused so much attention that they doubling down on us. What is your opinion my brother?

    • @saltydawgdiesel2243
      @saltydawgdiesel2243  4 роки тому +10

      Well that's a slippery slope... But as far as I know, there's nothing against deleting emissions for off-road trucks. But my opinion is that it's my truck... And honestly I think that I should be able to drive my truck how I want to...I dunno... Maybe the state could offer truck owners the option to drive without emissions on roads at a *SLIGHLTY* higher cost (registration or emissions exemption), but I think their version of "slightly" is probably different than mine. Regardless, I think that truck owners who act irresponsibly (rolling coal, etc) are the ones causing so much pain for those who want to drive their trucks on the roads.

The egr cooler blew, so lost coolant the entire time, and pressurized the radiator. I had to stop every hour or two to relieve pressure and put coolant back in the radiator. • @saltydawgdiesel2243
      @saltydawgdiesel2243  5 років тому +1

      I used PPEI tunes at PPEI.com. They sell the EZ-Lynk programmer/monitor. I'd ask them about the EGR valve. Before I deleted, I was able to run specific tunes from them, but I had to unplug the EGR. That procedure is also discussed in the video.

    • @cmb7481
      @cmb7481 5 років тому

      The concern with leaving it on is a possible coolant leak in the future. The exhaust gases won't be flowing through the egr anymore, just hot gases sitting in the egr cooler. If it decides to leak it will cause a real headache
