      You got it! Here is a video I did some time ago on playing those sometimes elusive notes: ua-cam.com/video/EbTpp8YhKzk/v-deo.html.

    Wow! Thanks Jonny. Have avoided half-holing like the plague, but will persevere now you have shown us the technique. The music for Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky demand a lot of half-holing so here goes. Thankyou.

    Funny when home alone I can hit the half hole position each time. But when nervous in front of people I miss it every time. Great tips. After just stop blowing as I change really helped. Wonderful tips. Makes one want to take more lessons from you. Peace and Happiness.

    For a great blusey sound, I can get 3 notes on the third hole up just like bending on guitar or harmonica. I can also go up and down the scale by half notes. I enjoy your videos. Michael

    Thanks, Jonny! Great Video! I had always tried to roll up my ring finger to do the half hole, but after seeing you do it your way, and listening to your excellent explanation as to why you do it exactly the way you do it, I must admit that your way is probably the superior way. I will definitely practice it. When I played the Shakuhachi, I played the flattened Meri notes by half holing the hole by rolling the finger upwards. It would be interesting to take a closer look at videos of Shakuhachi players and see if they're really doing it your way or not.

    Very good video. I know this is off subject but I have a student that continues to blow as she slides her finger and she gets the smoothest up bend to the next note. Never a squeak. I can't bend a note up in this manner, as I just roll my finger tip up using the beginning of the middle joint as a pivot. Thanks for the great video as usual. I spend a lot of time watching your tips and tricks. Now if a magic fairy would just come by and help me with my vibrato so it would not sound like a chattering electrical relay life would be good. Oh yes I watched your video on that also.

    You are SUCH a good teacher! I love that you get right to the subject. I love that you show and describe, so clearly. Showing from multiple angles, was wonderful. I used to get more misses than hits and couldn't find where the hits were. This morning, I picked it up and got repeatable successes. It's far from muscle memory, but now know what I want to repeat. Thank-you so much.

    Do you have a video with more info on how to adjust the block? Mine covers two holes but I don't understand why it covers up the top hole which is always kept blocked.

    • @JonnyLipford
      @JonnyLipford  2 роки тому

      Having a little difficulty understanding your question. There are 2 holes on the body of the flute that create the windway. The block should cover the hole closest to your lips, and then sit just at the back edge of the second hole. So the block is channeling air from the slow air chamber that you blow into, and exiting at the second hole where some of the air goes out over the flute and some is channeled directly at the splitting edge. This creates the sound.

    • @theforestgardener4011
      @theforestgardener4011 2 роки тому

      @@JonnyLipford Thanks for the response, I only now realize how the block actually is channeling air, not just covering holes.

    Hi , Thank you so much for sharing…. Does JP create the flute you are using…. Do you think it’s possible to get one for around 200 - 300 !?

    • @JonnyLipford
      @JonnyLipford  Рік тому

      JP Gomez did indeed create this flute. You can order directly from him on his website: heartsongflutes.com. However a flute like this will be much more than $300. He has prices listed on his site.

    • @Danielscottschiffer
      @Danielscottschiffer Рік тому

      @@JonnyLipford So his flutes are over $500 and like $700 for a low E ; do they really sound better then a 300- 450 low E from Laughing crow or Ancient territories ; i really like the owners vibes ! Thank you so much Jonny for doing what your doing......

    • @Danielscottschiffer
      @Danielscottschiffer Рік тому

      I guess it wasn't the "best" question for you to answer .... I ended up getting Ancient territories for around $400 ...I'm a leather craftsman and play 6 instruments; I have always been connection ancient vibes and nature; and anytime I heard the AIF it was instant peaceful energy! When I was communicating with Ancient territories (John Stillwell) he has the nicest human vibes... and his skill making fantastic sounding flutes . ..TY for turning me on to them ; I will have videos of it soon!
