Besides, for the HD version of Steam, the guys from Ubisoft have redrawn each element by hand, and it shows, you can put any HD mod next to it, none of them reach the level of the HD version which is not absolutely perfect either.

Is Ignatius' horn really assymetrical? The longer I look at it the more it looks like a perspective issue. Also I am fairly sure heroes portraits were prerendered so it is logical it is assymetrical in his model.

I'm really impressed! I normally hate AI art but you've managed to get the emotion and energy down of most of the portraits I've seen. This lacks the emotional emptiness that most AI art does.
I agree! "HD AI" remakes usually fall into the trap of making something new from the low res images, and the details become random and the people cartoonishly Facetune-beautiful. This truly feels like the old images were just enhanced by AI. If AI can be used like this, I think we're on the right track!

As always - incredible work overall. Fiona and Ignatius stand out to me as less faithful to their originals. Fiona's got that model-ey thing to her portrait - could be the art style, could be the lighting but something's slightly off there. Ignatius is quite different overall with a thicker mustache and rearrangement of the horns on his helmet. The rest of them are gorgeous, especially Pyre, Calh and Marius.
Your remasters are amazing! P.S. I've always suspected that Pyre was based on one of the original artist's exes, who vengefully portrayed her as a Demoniac out of spite! 😆
Well, that's truly beautiful. Fiona's portrait is the second best of all human faces (Charna is still the best IMHO). Calh and Xeron are also amazing. Great job!
About asymmetry, which is a topical with demoniacs. Normally I treat asymmetry as flaw, and in most cases it's justified. Usually human faces don't have that much asymmetry, but lately I've been on the fence of whether asymmetry and distortions should be "corrected". In some cases it feels appropriate, for example with Verdish's right eye in witches video. But here I left a bit of asymmetry for Nymus, and for Gretchin in barbarians. What kind of distortions can be considered character traits instead of flaws? Is there a facial trait that I ended up "correcting" that you thought was and innate part of the character?
Don't know if you can come up with a rule for that, gotta use your intuition. I think in most cases it's evident when a flaw is intentional and thus they become a proper part of the character (like Ayden's weird head shape) and you nailed them pretty well.
You probably know way more than I do about this, but I think human faces are never really perfectly symmetrical either and that makes them interesting and beautiful... Granted in homm certain heroes' portraits take it to the extreme and they can get away with it cause they're more like impressionist art, basically meant to be more so perceived as an overall image from some distance rather than examined closely for all the little details, and they do work that way pretty well (probably one of a few genius ways this game takes advantage of limitations the devs were facing and turns them into strengths). But I guess once you try to nitpick them the image falls apart. I think you've done a great job preserving the overall vibe of the majority of the heroes while adding more depth in a non destructive way... And obviously you do what you deem best, but if you're just asking for an opinion I think I would try to preserve the asymmetries when appropriate. So I'm glad you've decided to leave some asymmetry for Nymus as they're one of my favorite heroes and I feel like their asymmetry is among the things that create their appeal... Overall I'm really glad you've finally made demoniacs, I've been waiting for them for a while and I think they've turned out really nicely... All of them really, but especially Nymus, Fiona, and Rashka

For these portrais i think fiona lost a lot of assymetric character in the remaster. She has a wild look in her eyes thats just turned into a stock image lady it feels like.
Pyre- In the original portrait, she looks like she's saying, "Yeah, what do you want?" while in the remaster, she looks like she's saying, "You mess with me and I'll burn your face off." Calh- Remastered portrait looks great, but the top of Calh's head looks a little too clean IMO. In the original, the flesh around his horns are uneven and gives it a chaotic and messy feeling, while the remaster polishes it and makes his head look normal. Too normal for my tastes. Octavia- I always thought the yellow stuff on Octavia was her hair and not her headscarf. The remaster makes it clear that it is the latter. Wait, that means Octavia is bald! Marius- Her portrait in the original looked too messy IMO. Good thing the remaster improved the original portrait by a lot. Xeron- Remaster is a huge improvement over the original. I like the details on his facial hairs, his eyes, his horns, and the armor he's wearing. Fiona- While the remaster removes the twisted and sinister expression on her face, I like how both of the portraits make it look like she's saying, "You don't know what I'm capable of, so don't even try it." Rashka- Gotta like the details on the flames surrounding him. Ignatius- Does Ignatius have heterochromia? I never thought about it until now. I do like the smug expression on his face, however. Nymus- Her mouth looked awkward in the original since it looked like she was biting the bottom of her lip. But in the remaster, she looks awesome!
These are incredible, once again!! So sad when I went to download these into my HOMM3 files, MMArchive keeps saying my bitmap.lod file cannot be opened :( We NEED this with HD MOD!! Even as a togglable option in settings, these are incredibly faithful and such an advancement!
Hm, I wish we could have gotten a look at the inscriptions of Pyre's and Fiona's helmets. Also, I'm pretty sure in the original Xeron had his teeth clenched. Good otherwise though.

If ai correct such features on portraits something is lost from those, how to say it?, directions of specific nations? Portray of specific nations? You know what i mean. Like druids should be mysterious and wise look alike, mages wise and powerful, clerics humble and all those things. Specific charm, charisma. I guess is Rashka who has in his description that he use to command his troops with force and for now it worked. Then you have demoniacs which barely get any morale as skill but get offense often and it shows that to be part of army in inferno is nothing but harsh conditions and explosion and you go out of such army to hero ranks with scars, misfigured, crazy psycho and thus portraits should evoke specific emotions of each nation.

Fiona, perhaps, is the only character who was remastered 100% accuratly between all the videos. Right eyebrow a little low compared to original, but face overall is great.

Octavia's horns are pure fire, not metal. Again, was it really that hard to fix during "2-3 hours of manual work per portrait"?
