Look i don't mean to say you can use them but....
Barrels are quite nice if you need to conserve space because you don't need an empty space above them. But the dual chest reduces the ui's you need to interact with and having barrels can make working with villagers more difficult because they will claim the barrels as workstations and you have to break all your barrels to get anything other than a fisherman...

I incorporate barrels into my builds. Adds neat details to builds and nifty storage. Really easy organizing too.
Barrel can still be opened if there's block on top of it, While chest can be merged and it gives more slot to place item in it
You need 2 chest together merged but 2 barrel are cheaper and 2 barrel is the same as 2 chest next to each other

there's 3 reasons i don't use barrels.
they're a workstation, which is annoying if you have nearby villagers.
you use slabs, which is more annoying to craft.
and they cannot be waterlogged, which means creepers are gonna blow up my damn barrels.

I mean the thing is if you have enough barrels then it's still cheaper in the long term for wood, as 3 barrels require 3 less planks than 3 chests (slabs come in multiples of 6) and why on earth are you having storage systems without mod proofing? but I agree that barrels and villagers aren't the best combination

She only needed a few, and ALOT of sheep, see, sheep eat grass, and only it, so eventually even if it took weeks, slowly the mycelium would spread to the empty dirt patches, and if they kill them, breed more, if they put wolf guards, get llamas to protect them…

The issue with barrels is that with typical storages, the way chests are organised you need less area to interact with chests. Meanwhile, barrels require interaction surface for each barrel- Meaning chests are more suitable for being compact. However, barrels being blocks and not entities(I think) prob makes it better for lag
They also help hide bases, since they can’t show up on the pie chart

barrels aren't entities, they're technically cheaper ((by a single plank)), they fill up an entire block which just looks nice, and they don't require an empty space above them. the only thing that chests have over barrels is doubling, which is only sometimes a benefit.
also, MAYBE the fact that you can hide stuff behind chests.

i love how Astelina used chests in the dark oak farm
I mean barrels are literally just chests, but they don't connect together and you can't stack them sideways like you can chests
but they hold the exact same things, and can be opened regardless of if there's a block above them
however they're more expensive to craft because they need slabs, so one extra wood at least, but that's for just one, i don't know if I'm right but i believe they're actually cheaper in the end due to you getting more slabs so you can craft more barrels than you could just making one chest
so barrels have more pros than cons even then, and chest have at least one pro and one con
in the end it depends on if you want to do the chest stacking thing, putting them in sideways two blocks deep this giving you more compact and larger storage without sacrificing anything more than a few more pieces of wood, unlike with barrels that are cheaper, but you wouldn't be able to access those barrels in the back if you tired to stack them 2 blocks deep with more on top as well

Chests are useful for creeper resistance because you can water log them and make double chests. Barrels are good for decoration and using a full block for rails or something. They each have there own uses.

that one unemployed friend on a tuesday:
barrels are full blocks, and stashes are much easier to hide if someone uses a glitch, but chests disappear from far away, and can be used for a platform above an ocean, and are older than barrels
but a ender chest that has shucker boxes even if found can be looted so if you really want to keep your stuff use a ender chest and if you a followed even the best stash can be found
@@Chris-onyt its unlikely someone will follow another player for a stash, and if you're crashing a P2W minecraft server, ender chests become relatively useless when you get banned and rejoin on an alt to cause chaos.
if they have a hacked client they can see chuck gen so they just follow the path you took then it just a matter of time before it gets looted and i am taking about players that don't get banned@@garbearboy838

Nah it takes 9 piece of wood and chest take 8 woods
8 slabs = 4 planks because 12 slabs are crafted from 6 planks, which means it's twice as cheap and comes with some extra slabs to use for an extra barrel once you craft 2 barrels normally

i personally prefer barrels. they take up a full block so they're more neat, plus they look good as a building block that also doubles as a trashcan for that single seed in ur inventory or the 6,000th time u had to get rid of the wandering trader.

I too am a barrel enjoyer.the opening sound is soothing and can be pushed by pistons so barrels are supperior even though double barrels are a dream that we wont be geting in a lot of time

Chests are better if you just care about storage due to the double chest mechanic, barrels however have way more aesthetic value, personally I use chests but I'm not opposed to using barrels

Barrels are actually more expensive than chests, since you’ll always spend 9 wood crafting the barrel, cause the slabs take 3 wood and then you need 6 more wood.
With sticks you need 4 wood for the sticks and 3 wood for the slabs, so only if crafted with sticks is it cheaper
But most people don’t craft only one chest. In a group of three, chests would cost 24 planks. Barrels would cost 21 planks.
