Do employers take on anyone with defaults on credit history? I have some that will be on for a few more years and unsure if that would stop me getting a job. I have only been able to find very limited information on this with some potentially saying no chance of whole of market options with others saying case by case on the person. Any insight would be great? Thanks
Hi Jonathan, it is much more down to case-by-case basis. As a regulated industry by the FCA, individuals need to be deemed as 'fit and proper' to provide financial / mortgage advice. Therefore, the employer would need to be able to prove to the FCA they have undertaken appropriate checks. To help make their decision, they would typically like to know: what caused the defaults, how much the defaults were, are they being repaid and what has your credit history been like since. Hi Zac, there are many variables that would affect chances of securing a Trainee role, however obtaining CeMAP would be beneficial as it would increase your attractiveness to potential future employers. To be a Mortgage Advisor, you will need to hold CeMAP or equivalent, so getting off your own back shows the right intent. Hi Will, thanks for your question! My advice would be to tackle it like any other revision for an exam - break it into manageable chunks and focus on the sections you enjoy first so that you create a rhythm with your revision and that should help with the other areas. Hope this helps
