Not saying you can't like it -- for frack's sake I adore Code Lyoko ironically, possibly _the_ most cookie-cutter, redundant show on planet earth. BUT. I don't call it objectively better than other shows because I like it so much.
Katherine Canon it is SUPPOSED to look like the manga. But it doesnt work out. Naokos drawings are very lively and vivid. The crystal anime even appears as if it was drawn by a child sometimes. And you could (or should) bring the figures to move. We hardly see that in animes these days.
Which I don't understand why she's pissed since Usagi and Mamoru are lovers for life. She had her chance and she knew she and Mamoru didn't belong together. Was this before she came to terms that she and Mamoru weren't going to be a couple? (Because I remember seeing the 90s one. Didn't really like it all that much. And even after Rei gives up on Mamoru, I hated how she still acted as if she would be better then Usagi. And much of Usagi's character in the 90s show didn't make me like her all that much too. She cried about EVERYTHING).

The only thing that I thought the new Crystal one did better then the original was actually giving Darien (can't spell his Japanese name) a proper background story and making him appear younger (although he's still technically a teenager in the original).Other then that I prefer both the story (more like the dialogue) and voices (despite the changes) of the original. Granted I've been watching Sailor Moon for 20+ years so I might be a little set in my ways when it comes to the different shows.
I agree love the original artwork but the 90s versions voices and storytelling was more fluid to me.I think they changed some things so it would reach a broader audience. The manga is more mature and does get kinda dark. As for Chibi Usa...well Serena did have the keys to Darien's apt.

I remember hearing that in one of the original concept designs for the Sailor Moon characters, Sailor Moon was gonna have pink hair and red or blue eyes, but in the end Naoko Takeuchi (the creator/mangaka of Sailor Moon) decided that Sailor Moon should have blonde hair and blue eyes. So I guess the way Chibiusa looks might be a way of still using the hair & eyes color she originally thought of.

Plus, the changes to the story SMC made are disasterous, while the original's changes really benefited the show in most instances. In short, the 90s anime was competently made by experts in their field, who later moved on to make many other amazing shows (Utena!). SMC? Closer to the manga, that's true, but also inheriting manga's worst sins (poor pacing, cardboard characters and booooring finals, apart from Stars) while not being able to translate manga's good points.

Why does chibiusa have pink hair if neither of her parents do? Simple answer: Naoko, the author, wanted that for sailor moon, she couldn't do it, so chibimoon got it instead. Answer of a fan who knows the history of sailor moon in the manga: Because she is a pure representation of her sailor crystal, which is pink! All the others sailor in their princess appearences (in the manga) have a unique palet of color, based on the color of their respective crystal, for example: princess/Neo Queen serenity has white hair - sylver crystal, princess/sailor Mercury has blue hair, blue eyes - Mercury crystal, princess/sailor Mars has red hair, red eyes - Mars Crystal and that applies for all the solar system's princess, so that's why chibiusa has pink hair, red eyes!

I loved the original and always will xD the way they executed it was so much better~ they not only brought more expression to usagi and mamoru but had the other sailor scouts contribute into the scene and rei's reaction is priceless. unlike how crystal seemed so staged and a bit awkward
I like the original better, and no not solely because "hur dur animation" it's because of the delivery and writing of the scene. In the 90s there was a lot of emotion in it and you felt like there was a huge impact to the news. You could see the characters just sinking into the fact that Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask have a daughter. Even before Sailor Moon's motherly response to seeing Chibiusa really helps the scene. In Crystal there's just so much exposition in this episode that the news is just crammed in like a book. They waste a minute of Chibiusa introducing herself (talk about pointless) and then the King is like "Oh btw she's your daughter lol" and they're like "WOAHHHH" for 10 seconds then the next topic immediately switches to "Okay so Neo Queen Serenity and the Kingdom..." And seem to forget they just found out this pink haired cotton candy girl is their daughter nor care. It just felt like a little footnote or disclaimer than a big drop to the characters and that's why I find the scene underwhelming. The problem is there's a difference with manga exposition and animated exposition

Eilish Hendry Thigh gaps were a thing in Japan before it came to the states - they just didn't term it in that way. Japan has a fascination with youth, to the extent that it becomes erotic (child prostitution was only outlawed in 1999, mind you). So regardless of whether the production team stays true to the original manga's style or not, they still succumb to child sexualization, like a lot of other anime.

***** Those images are more romantic than erotic - I think the anime is a little more "male gaze-y" than the manga, simply because the anime was largely made by males and the manga made by a female. So I do not doubt the sexual imagery in the manga, but the intent is different from the anime.. the anime IS more fan service-ish. Furthermore, a lot of those illustrations show an older usagi, or her past incarnation as the moon princess, which is a more adult form of her.
Not a good defense for Crystal. That being said, I prefer the Crystal version because Usagi and Mamoru are pretty much stunned silent while Minako just looks back and forth between the two awkwardly. Not as big on the original anime take because of the other Senshis' shared reaction (something early Crystal is way more guilty of, granted) with the true saving grace being anime Rei's jealous streak. Which only works with context from the first season and proper translation.
I just said that manga accuracy had no bearing on this particular scene comparison. Besides, you didn't address how the anime did the Chibi-Usa reveal better.

I won't lie. As a kid I always thought they were like 16 or something and "age up" when transformed. Then, around a decade later thanks to Google I learn that not only are they 14, they're supposed to be midgets, Usagi being 4'11 (or 1.5m) and I'm here like hell no that girl is almost as tall as a door lol

1994 wins hands down. It had more of reaction feel and I can feel it being uncomfortable but touching and funny. Crystal has no emotion it's just a pretty face no emotion I can't even feel the how they felt. So 1994 maybe out but at least they they animated about it.

Sailor Moon Crystal is pretty great. It's closer to the original story and is way better drawn. I loved it so much. The only thing I miss is the arc with the twins and the tree they stole energy for, that was all just filler in the original anime.
Taylor, old anime has a good nostalgic value, but new one is a much better adaptation of the original manga, as it doesn't change the story of original manga. Well, except for changes that the author, Naoko Takeuchi wanted new anime to make. And by the way... please rewatch old Sailor Moon too... english dub was horrible, as it censored many stuff. English dub even censored Sailor Scout's deaths in the end of first season.

The old one will forever be the best for me. I think the art style in the new one is pretty, but not really my cup of tea. I also prefer the old Usagi, she was less princess-like and a lot funnier, actually. But that’s just my opinion. And in this scene the reactions in the old version are way better, most importantly Rei’s reaction, it was my favourite 😂❤️

I love sticking to the manga, but I strongly believe in good executions in the technical side that should enhance the overall impact of the film. In this case, my vote goes to the old anime.
***** How is Crystal better?! It's not even real anime. lol It was made in Korea. It's super low budget, rushed, has ZERO personality or charm. The characters have no depth, no stories, no cool attacks, no upgraded transformations, no minds of their own. So shallow and fake. All these characters that were so full of life and unique and out spoken are like lifeless dolls that hardly move their faces or bodies.

Even when Chibiusa was conscious in Crystal it didn't feel like she was there because she literally doesn't respond much, it was just weird especially when they moved on so fast
***** The only episode I felt emotion was act 9. The other acts where you're supposed to feel emotional just either made me cringe or bored to tears (act 13 made me cringe because they took away the subtle symbolism of Usagi and Mamoru equally supporting each other and changing it to....what we got in Crystal)
I personally like the old one better reaction wise. Having all the scouts there for the reveal is awesome and Mars's reaction is best lol. In the new one, I honestly got thrown off by how Usagi reacted and the flowers. I found them excessive and preferred how in the old version she just becomes speechless after the first "heh." I do like how Venus reaction then Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon looked at each other then away in the new one.

And even after Rei gives up on Mamoru, I hated how she still acted as if she would be better then Usagi. And much of Usagi's character in the 90s show didn't make me like her all that much too. She cried about EVERYTHING).

The new one is quite pretty, but in my opnion, the original did a better job telling the story.
The only thing that I thought the new Crystal one did better then the original was actually giving Darien (can't spell his Japanese name) a proper background story and making him appear younger (although he's still technically a teenager in the original).Other then that I prefer both the story (more like the dialogue) and voices (despite the changes) of the original. Granted I've been watching Sailor Moon for 20+ years so I might be a little set in my ways when it comes to the different shows.
I agree love the original artwork but the 90s versions voices and storytelling was more fluid to me.I think they changed some things so it would reach a broader audience. The manga is more mature and does get kinda dark. As for Chibi Usa...well Serena did have the keys to Darien's apt.

I remember hearing that in one of the original concept designs for the Sailor Moon characters, Sailor Moon was gonna have pink hair and red or blue eyes, but in the end Naoko Takeuchi (the creator/mangaka of Sailor Moon) decided that Sailor Moon should have blonde hair and blue eyes. So I guess the way Chibiusa looks might be a way of still using the hair & eyes color she originally thought of.

The 1990s animated series is not the original but the adaptation. Sailor Moon Crystal 2014, which is based on the manga, is the original story.

Why does chibiusa have pink hair if neither of her parents do?
Simple answer: Naoko, the author, wanted that for sailor moon, she couldn't do it, so chibimoon got it instead.
Answer of a fan who knows the history of sailor moon in the manga:
Because she is a pure representation of her sailor crystal, which is pink! All the others sailor in their princess appearences (in the manga) have a unique palet of color, based on the color of their respective crystal, for example: princess/Neo Queen serenity has white hair - sylver crystal, princess/sailor Mercury has blue hair, blue eyes - Mercury crystal, princess/sailor Mars has red hair, red eyes - Mars Crystal and that applies for all the solar system's princess, so that's why chibiusa has pink hair, red eyes!

I like the original better, and no not solely because "hur dur animation" it's because of the delivery and writing of the scene. In the 90s there was a lot of emotion in it and you felt like there was a huge impact to the news. You could see the characters just sinking into the fact that Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask have a daughter. Even before Sailor Moon's motherly response to seeing Chibiusa really helps the scene. In Crystal there's just so much exposition in this episode that the news is just crammed in like a book. They waste a minute of Chibiusa introducing herself (talk about pointless) and then the King is like "Oh btw she's your daughter lol" and they're like "WOAHHHH" for 10 seconds then the next topic immediately switches to "Okay so Neo Queen Serenity and the Kingdom..." And seem to forget they just found out this pink haired cotton candy girl is their daughter nor care. It just felt like a little footnote or disclaimer than a big drop to the characters and that's why I find the scene underwhelming. The problem is there's a difference with manga exposition and animated exposition

The thigh gap they added on chibiusa in the last couple seconds of this video got on my nerves. Modern moe mentality forced upon a shoujo classic.
Eilish Hendry Thigh gaps were a thing in Japan before it came to the states - they just didn't term it in that way. Japan has a fascination with youth, to the extent that it becomes erotic (child prostitution was only outlawed in 1999, mind you). So regardless of whether the production team stays true to the original manga's style or not, they still succumb to child sexualization, like a lot of other anime.

Not a good defense for Crystal. That being said, I prefer the Crystal version because Usagi and Mamoru are pretty much stunned silent while Minako just looks back and forth between the two awkwardly. Not as big on the original anime take because of the other Senshis' shared reaction (something early Crystal is way more guilty of, granted) with the true saving grace being anime Rei's jealous streak. Which only works with context from the first season and proper translation.
I just said that manga accuracy had no bearing on this particular scene comparison. Besides, you didn't address how the anime did the Chibi-Usa reveal better.

For people wondering why Chibiusa has pink hair, it’s because in the original design Sailor Moon had pink hair but the author decided on Blonde after consideration. So she gave it to Chibiusa instead.

1994 wins hands down. It had more of reaction feel and I can feel it being uncomfortable but touching and funny. Crystal has no emotion it's just a pretty face no emotion I can't even feel the how they felt. So 1994 maybe out but at least they they animated about it.

The newer one is based of the manga, the older one was made before the manga was finished.
Sailor Moon Crystal is pretty great. It's closer to the original story and is way better drawn. I loved it so much. The only thing I miss is the arc with the twins and the tree they stole energy for, that was all just filler in the original anime.
Taylor, old anime has a good nostalgic value, but new one is a much better adaptation of the original manga, as it doesn't change the story of original manga. Well, except for changes that the author, Naoko Takeuchi wanted new anime to make. And by the way... please rewatch old Sailor Moon too... english dub was horrible, as it censored many stuff. English dub even censored Sailor Scout's deaths in the end of first season.

The old one will forever be the best for me. I think the art style in the new one is pretty, but not really my cup of tea. I also prefer the old Usagi, she was less princess-like and a lot funnier, actually. But that’s just my opinion. And in this scene the reactions in the old version are way better, most importantly Rei’s reaction, it was my favourite 😂❤️

I love sticking to the manga, but I strongly believe in good executions in the technical side that should enhance the overall impact of the film. In this case, my vote goes to the old anime.

***** How is Crystal better?! It's not even real anime. lol It was made in Korea. It's super low budget, rushed, has ZERO personality or charm. The characters have no depth, no stories, no cool attacks, no upgraded transformations, no minds of their own. So shallow and fake. All these characters that were so full of life and unique and out spoken are like lifeless dolls that hardly move their faces or bodies.
SuperBlaze22 Crystal is better in the sense that its almost exactly how it is in the manga. Almost everything that happened in the manga is in Crystal so if u didnt read it of course ur gonna think otherwise
Even when Chibiusa was conscious in Crystal it didn't feel like she was there because she literally doesn't respond much, it was just weird especially when they moved on so fast
***** The only episode I felt emotion was act 9. The other acts where you're supposed to feel emotional just either made me cringe or bored to tears (act 13 made me cringe because they took away the subtle symbolism of Usagi and Mamoru equally supporting each other and changing it to....what we got in Crystal)

I personally like the old one better reaction wise. Having all the scouts there for the reveal is awesome and Mars's reaction is best lol.
In the new one, I honestly got thrown off by how Usagi reacted and the flowers. I found them excessive and preferred how in the old version she just becomes speechless after the first "heh." I do like how Venus reaction then Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon looked at each other then away in the new one.
