Thank for displaying the the amazing St Chad's Church and new and revived Town centre.I moved out of Kirkby 18 years ago and still find the place really friendly and unique.
I used to walk through that town centre while on my way home from school. The Newtown Gardens has been ruined. It had shrubs and bushes surrounding that with the metal fencing around that. The entrance was different. That tunnel used to be completely overgrown. I remember kissing a girl under one of those drooping trees when i was about 12. It feels like they have touristized everything. Millenium green? Jeeez! It was just an open fence access when i was a kid. Kirkby predates the Viking invasion. It's full of underground catacombs used to escape and hide during the Cromwellian battles. Lots of old cottages and farms out there.
Lovely place here. Kirkby Sock Robbers we're called around Liverpool. Should have popped in the Market Tavern you looked at, and met some of the local nut-cases. Thanks for sharing, seen a few people I know, alas none I believe will ever see this video.
+Susandwyer the elephant in gondola and tree and the winged chairs next to the Kirkby centre are ridiculous and I've lived in Kirkby (Northwood)for 31 years
@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 Is that not where the front of the baths used to be? They have those types of urban art everywhere these days. It's all part of the architectural development and modernisation of the social infrastructure. Out with the old in with the ... crap 💩
@@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 Agreed. But the kids seem to love them, not so much the tree, they're not causing any harm, and the were from money explicitly for art, so not really arsed about their ridiculousness tbh.
They knocked so much down. The Stad was outstanding, with the roller ring at the back and failed ski slope 😂 All that land around Brookie School and the alt. Makes my head spin how much it's changed. The cannal was heaven as a kid. 😊

The chairs you see in that odd location where for the college that sat behind it. The college was closed and knocked down.
