Thanks Sedge!!!! Love all of your Festool Live videos and love learning all about the Festool system. I'm a first time home owner and owning Festool tools has made my life so much better with all of the things they are capable of creating!!!
This is how I have been doing middle shelves since I bought my DF500. The beautiful thing about this method is that you can do blind joinery in the middle of a wall unit and never see the joinery, in this case dominos. It only works like this for 3/4 inch material. How would you go about doing this with 1in (25mm) or thicker shelves? Thanks for another great video.
I should’ve tested this on scraps first. For some reason mine was off a couple mm from where it should’ve been. I’ll get it sooner or later. It just seems so easy.
Is there an easy way to do this on 12mm ply? Or should you just layout center lines and work back from the centerlines when you clamp your board down to reference off of?
I’m curious about the looser setting. Would it be better to did one side tight and only have the second side loose? I guess it depends on how much error you expect, but that middle tenon looked down right floppy to me.
Hi Sedge. I am curious about your thoughts on using a vice to hold your domino vertically so you can work on small projects. I saw one on UA-cam and it seemed like a good idea.
Is this method adaptable to attaching a 45 degree shelf (with a mitered end) in the middle of a field? I’m thinking of one of those wine racks that have 45 degree shelves. Been scratching my head about that for a few days!
Can you do a demo for getting a perfect centered board for doing a divider in a cabinet ? How do you take into consideration the thickness of the material?
I would not use a 4mm domino in 1/4" ply ...not enough shoulder on either side. I believe the thinnest for the 4mm recommended ply Festool is 12mm (1/2") ply.......

Rock on! Thanks for Watching !!!
Thanks for making these videos! I get so much more out of my DF500 because of the education the videos provide that I decided to buy a 700.
Glad to help!
Sedge I am loving all of these videos! I like the pace vs. the Instagram.
Thanks !!!!!
Simplest explanation of this I have seen. Thank you Sedge!
Thanks
I’ve been wondering how to do this for years. Thank you so much.
Happy to help!
I’ve been overthinking this maneuver for several hours then I watched your video. This was a serious “oh duh” moment. Thanks!

Thanks for watching and also for another great idea for another video !!!!
I’m also curious how you would do this for thicker material.
Same. How about for thicker material?
So simple and awesome.
Thank you! Cheers!

Practice makes perfect !!!
Finally!!!! This helped soooo much!🎉
cool...glad to help !!!
Sedge, great video. What's the distance between the base and the center of the bit on the domino XL?
15mm

lay out centerlines....

ok...
@@sedgetool watch back your video…

i have never found the need for one of the vices you mention .. but .. they look cool
How do you do this if you want it center on a 1" piece? This limits you to having the domino offset from center
2mm shim
does this work with the 700? or am I doing something wrong, when vertical plunge, I am on 20mm with an 8mm bit on 18mm sheet
nope..the off set on the 700 is 15mm
@@sedgetool your the best thanks
How do you do that if the boards are for example 5cm thick? How do you get the dominos in the middle of both boards?
5cm is a really thick board wow !!!
How joint miter, 2 different thickness material?
OK

yep...just need to know your offset from the base...it changes because of the angle
How do you know what setting to set the height of the domino at when doing the center application?
you are working off the base as a reference so you do not have to set the height...10mm from base to center...I hop this makes sense.....
Wicked
Thanks Brah !!!🤙
With this method wouldn’t the shelf be 10mm off if trying to center the board?
not trying to center the board just working from my layout lines
Can you do a demo for getting a perfect centered board for doing a divider in a cabinet ? How do you take into consideration the thickness of the material?
What size domino did you use for this?
5x30
This is great.
Thanks Sean !!!
Going to build a bookshelf out of reclaimed douglas fir with these tips
wicked cool !!!
Can you do an offset video?
ok
When i do this exactly the front edges don't line up. Anyone heard of a way to align the flaps again?
Need to do a video on that one...
NICE! 😁👍🏻
Thanks
Did someone say “eye” ?

yep

Hi guys. Now do this with 12mm board please.
ok
Quite a clever idea but i can think of numerous ways to do this without buying a another single purpose expensive noisy dust maker.
Happy Thanksgiving !!!
You’ve missed that bit “be positive stay sharp”😭
Whoooops !!!!🤣🤣🤣
Not today sir, stay negative stay dull😂
@@Therealphantomzero haha not the best option to get through the day😅
Cool! Great, short and to the point. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!

👍
You forgot to mention that you cut the middle hole wide
" cut the middle hole wide "
💯💚💚👍👍
Thanks Ian !!!!!!!!!
Great information. Can you get your camera man some training? The constant panning in and out makes it really hard to watch.
Working on it!
