    articulate, confident, and incredible speaker--we just don't get that anymore

    this was a key victory for him, it made him a national figure once he won, he was seen as someone who could be President

    Proud to be from WV and beyond humbled to have been on those same steps as JFK. 40 years after that speech, in the fall of 2000, I was honored to meet then Vice President Gore on those steps with hope and optimism for the future. Sadly, that hope was lost a few weeks later.
