Roddy Piper also released a single and music video around the same time and it too was only in the UK. He could actually sing really well too. Kinda weird how WCW promoted their top stars as singers in the UK but not the US
Wrestling Bios is FOR SURE an awesome channel!!!! Always awesome to see one of my favorite channels shout out another one of my favorite channels!!! Wrestling Bios "Reliving the War" series is a must watch for anyone that's into pro wrestling history!
That must be a typo: The Wrestling Boot Band was a thing in 1985, at Hulkamania's peak, not 1995, when he was making bad movies. That aside, great video as always!
That is how timezones work specifically if we're discussing a distance like Japan. Japan is 12 hours offset from EST, so after 12pm EST, it's a different day in Japan. It is possible to wrestle in three separate days in less than 24 hours via flights and Japan.
On a more serious note, he wrote and recorded The Beatles's hit song "Come Together", so if you want to hear more of Hogan's bass playing you should definitely check that one out. Fun fact: Hulk Hogan almost didn't got to record that song as he was scheduled to go to the Moon that year. However, he was so impassioned about music at the time that he passed the chance of being the first man on the moon just to be in a Beatles album. So he called his good friend Neil Armstrong and told him "Hey, brother, I'm not gonna be going to the moon anymore, so if you want that gig, I can put in a good word for you". And the rest is history.
Fun fact....? In casual Japanese, often the last 'i' is cut off, especially when exclaiming. samui -> samu!! kowai -> kowa!! atsui -> atsu!! and ichi -> itch (especially when counting down, like with a band to start a song)
It always cracks me up to think Jimmy Hart had a top 10 hit single way before he got involved in wrestling. The Gentrys has to be one of my favorite one-hit wonders.
the band is supposed to be pronounced Jello. the y with two dots is a german character that is pronounced like an o. they did that because the food product tried to sue them.
@@audiowrench well I can blame Bill Manspeaker himself for the misinformation I have spread. Just FYI I have a friend who was his roomate and I have visited Jello House multiple times when it was still a thing.
There are very few things Hulk can do that would stop me for being a Hulkamaniac. I can't say that about too many other people. With Hogan and the lies, I just take it as part of the show, the character. He's never boring! Seriously, how many of us can say we truely know Terry Bolea? There's nothing like wrestling. You just get it, or you don't.
Tbh I think it's a lot more interesting when there's an element of "could it be real, though?" With Dux it's obvious that none of it was true, that he wasn't even a particularly good bullshit artist.
@@iaincowell9747 A tiny bit, yeah. And as a character he's playing, definitely yeah. Nobody thinks Hulk Hogan wasn't playing a character. The whole implication of Dux is that he's not playing a character, that that's really him. The crazy embellishments from Hogan are more endearing, but with Dux you kinda loathe him. Or at least I do.
On a related note, If we're talking about buff AF showmen and metal music, I would LOVE to hear you talk about Jon Mikl Thor, pro bodybuilder turned Power Metal Pioneer and occasional B-Movie star. There's a whole documentary on him, but I'd love for a less niche media outlet to touch on this guy. He directly inspired Manowar, and has been putting out albums since the early 70s all the way to today. And he's genuinely great.
@@blisterbaby Oh I have. That's how I found out about him, lol. But then I learned about the documentary, his discography, and his actual impact on Power Metal early on and now I shill the dude when I can 1) because he's comically bizarre and 2) because he's genuihnely talented (as a musician/songwriter at least) and hugely important to the genre. Him and Dio basically formed the basis for modern power metal, but obviously the latter tends to get more credit despite the dude's music doing really well in Canada and the aforementioned Manowar connection.
Whang there's a show called tales from the territories. It's old wrestling stories from back in the violent crazy days. There is an episode where they Brisco talks about meeting hogan, snapping his ankle and so on. He talks about hogan playing bass in a bar and them meeting him there. You should check that series out. It's amazing. This is tales from the territories Florida.
Hogan didn't just break his leg.. he was trying out and one of the wrestlers tested him too far and actually broke Hogan's leg in a hold. The light was shead on this recently. Hogan did return for training after he healed up.
Hulk Hogan would have fit right in with Metallica in the wake of Cliff Burton's untimely death. Imagine going to their first show post-funeral and seeing three men in their early-mid 20s who, by their own admission, were drunk off their asses for months afterward as their own brand of "therapy" as they worked through losing their brother........ and then there's a 6'7" 300 pound bleach blonde man built like an Abrahams tank just bouncing around high on coke and playing bass. Just imagine the music video for "One" if we saw him and all of his roided glory towering over the other guys as they do their jam session between scenes of "Johnny Got His Gun." I wish I lived in that timeline.
I had the green jelly album on cassette, some horrendous songs on there lol One where he sings about some dead kid, it goes something along the lines of “The world just lost another hulkamaniac, (background singers sing), a friend till the end, (hogan continues) I’ll see you again.
I kind of want to live in the alternate timeline where Hulk Hogan ended up actually playing bass for Metallica. The idea is so absurd that I would just like to be able to see it in action.
Could you imagine the hits. Brother of puppets, enter brother man, Rick flair is unforgiven, creeping brother, turn the page brother, harvester of brothers, the call of brother
I remember in an interview like 30ish years ago on australian TV he said he got into wrestling beacause he was working in bank. All the wrestlers would come in and cash huge checks. So Hulk was like, i'm in the wrong business. So many stories... So many stories.

True story, I sat at a sushi bar with a friend, and he was like “DUDE, that’s Hulk Hogan!” I was like no way, thought it was some poser ass Hulk wearing a blue bandana. Turns out it was really him. I called him by his birth name as I was a huge fan in my youth, I said “Hey, Terry, I love you, man!” He just kept walking with his fake tittied woman and left me ignored and in shambles. Damn you, Hulk, damn you. 😢
What do you expect, most wrestlers won't take it as a compliment you calling them by their birth name...I'm pretty sure he thought you were being a jerk that's why he kept going.
I'm from the UK and was a massive WWF fan in 93 and I'd never heard of the Green Jelly/Hulk Hogan cover of I'm the leader of the gang. It didn't go to number 1 though. According to Wikipedia it went to number 25. The original Gary Glitter version did go to number 1 though.

This is becoming my favorite channel. I can listen to it and do the dishes. The topics are always pretty awesome. And the voice is radio glory (I used to do radio...and you know when you hear it). Thanks.
I'm pretty sure he played on a lot of the WWF's songs from the 80s. The rumor of him singing on his theme song isn't true but he may have played bass on it. The song wasn't originally intended for him, but he did play bass on at least 1 other song Rick Derringer recorded for the WWF, a version of "Rock'n'Roll Hoochie Coo" with Mean Gene on vocals. There's a video for this on the "Piledriver" video album, although they are miming, he does appear to actually be playing the right notes. He did play on his WCW theme song. It is true that he could probably keep up with a band like The Rolling Stones, I'm not sure how he'd fit with Metallica though. Bill Wyman's bass parts are mostly fairly simple, Cliff Burton's bass parts on the other hand might have been a bit too difficult for Hogan based on what we've heard him play. He'd probably get along with the guys from Metallica better than The Stones though as The Stones are pretty progressive guys and Hogan is a republican.
I think that if it's true that he was a session musician at one point then he could probably play Cliff's parts well enough, I'm sure he couldn't replicate them perfectly (since no bass player in metallica has) but I think he could've got close enough. I won't say it's easy or anything but I don't think that Cliff's stuff is as hard as it sounds, as badass as it was.
i dont wanna get too deep into politics here, but ulrich and hammett were both very vocally unhappy about the 2016 election, so i wouldnt exactly say metallica is a republican band
@@Borkymarp He was in a covers band before becoming a wrestler so he must have at least been good enough to play the wide variety of music a band like that would be required to play.

How come when I edited my grammatical error it took away my ❤ from Whang!? 😭😭😭 pretty sure this is the second time it's happened and I am never editing another comment that gets a reaction from thine creator of fine premium content if it just removes their reaction 😩💔 being noticed by Senpai is all I got UA-cam 🥺 why you gotta take it away from me just because I needed to fix a spelling error?
Good video. It's nice you went further than the "LOL Hulk bad!!11". I had no idea Hulk did anything with Green Jello.
This was really close to happening. Talks broke down after Hogan demanded Beefcake be given a job, but Metallica determined they already had enough people to carry their bags.
Wanted more Lars impression! I was waiting to hear “möre or less phötögraphic memory”
Knocked it out of the park on this one, Whang. This is probably your best video in a career of greats. Enjoyed it immensely.
This video was much more informative than I expected! I already knew quite a bit about this topic and Whang still managed to bring obscure information to light! Great job as usual!
the recent "Tales from the Territories" episode about the CWF had a little snippet about Hogan and this discovery thing. It also showed a pic of him in the band
oh man Gran Torino was available on my flight to Korea. of all the flights I've been on, THAT's the one that has it. chefs kiss
Being a Metallica super fan and a hulkamaniac back when I was young, I've never heard this one! Great vid
Roddy Piper also released a single and music video around the same time and it too was only in the UK. He could actually sing really well too. Kinda weird how WCW promoted their top stars as singers in the UK but not the US
What was the song called?
To find out Hulk was a legit session guy blows my mind - that is more impressive to me than half of the LIES he told, what a wild ego.
No typo Just reused the name for the 90s album
NASA was supposed to go to the moon, too, but that never happened either.
Fun fact....?
In casual Japanese, often the last 'i' is cut off, especially when exclaiming.
samui -> samu!!
kowai -> kowa!!
atsui -> atsu!!
and
ichi -> itch (especially when counting down, like with a band to start a song)
The Hulkster Joining Metallica that seems likely LOL Let's rock on Brotha
Fade to brother
4 brothers
Welcome home(brother)
Master of brothers
It always cracks me up to think Jimmy Hart had a top 10 hit single way before he got involved in wrestling. The Gentrys has to be one of my favorite one-hit wonders.
I remember Hulk showing his bass guitar collection on MTV cribs where he mentioned he was a musician before his wrestling career.
the band is supposed to be pronounced Jello. the y with two dots is a german character that is pronounced like an o. they did that because the food product tried to sue them.
While I can't tell you what language the ÿ belongs to, as a German I can tell you that it doesn't belong to our language. We only use ä, ö and ü.
@@audiowrench well I can blame Bill Manspeaker himself for the misinformation I have spread.
Just FYI I have a friend who was his roomate and I have visited Jello House multiple times when it was still a thing.
@Mark Basile Jr all good, no hard feelings! Just thought I'd point it out to prevent the misinformation from spreading further
Phantasmagorical video. And big kudos to the ECW static in betwixed topics!
In Hogan's defense, I could've seen him mailing in an audition tape to Metallica.
One thing checks out. Jimmy Hart did music before he got into wrestling. He had a band called The Gentrys in the 60s and I have both of their albums
Now we need a story about Hulk Hogan's pasta mania.
I ate there once it was....not memorable.... because of the pasta but the experience itself was hilarious.
@@archibaldchuzzlewit1848 No side bread for you, dude. You can go to Hulkahell.
Whang, you should do a video about the Funkytown cartel, I feel like that would be very interesting.
Killer vid, def. made me feel better!
I do want to see a tales from the internet featuring Frank dux the stories he told are nuts
Tbh I think it's a lot more interesting when there's an element of "could it be real, though?"
With Dux it's obvious that none of it was true, that he wasn't even a particularly good bullshit artist.
@@TransRoofKorean And Hogan being asked to join Metallica is anymore believable?
@@iaincowell9747 A tiny bit, yeah. And as a character he's playing, definitely yeah. Nobody thinks Hulk Hogan wasn't playing a character.
The whole implication of Dux is that he's not playing a character, that that's really him.
The crazy embellishments from Hogan are more endearing, but with Dux you kinda loathe him. Or at least I do.
I think it exists
I like Metallica
You mean... You like MetalliHogan
Unforgiven 💯👌🏼… black album
I like turtles
@@TheUKMediaWatchtheir early albums too. Whiplash was the best song btw.
I like trains
On a related note, If we're talking about buff AF showmen and metal music, I would LOVE to hear you talk about Jon Mikl Thor, pro bodybuilder turned Power Metal Pioneer and occasional B-Movie star. There's a whole documentary on him, but I'd love for a less niche media outlet to touch on this guy. He directly inspired Manowar, and has been putting out albums since the early 70s all the way to today. And he's genuinely great.
Please tell me you've seen Rock'n'roll Nightmare! If not, get on it immediately!
ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE
@@blisterbaby Oh I have. That's how I found out about him, lol. But then I learned about the documentary, his discography, and his actual impact on Power Metal early on and now I shill the dude when I can 1) because he's comically bizarre and 2) because he's genuihnely talented (as a musician/songwriter at least) and hugely important to the genre.
Him and Dio basically formed the basis for modern power metal, but obviously the latter tends to get more credit despite the dude's music doing really well in Canada and the aforementioned Manowar connection.
He was in Zombie Nightmare with Adam West, right?
Thor was playing at a strip club near where I live and as much as I love Thor the whole thing just sounded sad
Love this stuff, great video keep it up!!
seeing hulk hogan on the stage like that looks like having your custom character or character mods in like guitar hero or something lol
Hiro Matsuda. His daughter confirmed Hulk Hogan's story was true.
Good to see the Wrestling Bios shout out, I remember when you did the glacier promo on Reliving The War and laughed my ass off
“I won’t be the front man for Metallica??? That doesn’t work for me brother!”
Damn... those old WWF albums from the 80s brings back a lot of memories. The one from Hill Billy Jim was surprisingly good.
😉🤟🏼💯 hulk hogan and Metallica I’m in.
Man , I love the song from when you're shopping in river city ransom , it's awesome
Haha Wrestling Bios just did a vid on this last week. Awesome😊
its nice of you to acknowledge wrestling bios video , was thinking the same thing
I had the green jelly album on cassette, some horrendous songs on there lol
One where he sings about some dead kid, it goes something along the lines of
“The world just lost another hulkamaniac, (background singers sing), a friend till the end, (hogan continues) I’ll see you again.
I kind of want to live in the alternate timeline where Hulk Hogan ended up actually playing bass for Metallica. The idea is so absurd that I would just like to be able to see it in action.
What's up Justin!
Danny Romano here... love the show! You've come a long way since Severed.... that being said HOMICIDE!!!!!!!
My dad used to drink and shoot pool at a bar in South Tampa while Hulk (Terry Bollea) and his band played live
I'm fucking jealous
I'm not going to lie, I actually like the Hulk Rules album, it's pure 90s musical cheese and i love it.
Been waiting for this for so long
Also awesome shout-out to wrestling bios been subbed to him forever 2
IM GONNA SHRED THIS SHIT BROTHER
Could you imagine the hits. Brother of puppets, enter brother man, Rick flair is unforgiven, creeping brother, turn the page brother, harvester of brothers, the call of brother
Enter Brother Dude
Imagine him now saying "This one goes out to all the Metallicamaniacs out there"
I remember in an interview like 30ish years ago on australian TV he said he got into wrestling beacause he was working in bank. All the wrestlers would come in and cash huge checks. So Hulk was like, i'm in the wrong business. So many stories... So many stories.
I just wanna say, Green Jelly is pronounced Green Jello, but they got sued by Jell-O and changed it to Green Jelly, but they still insist on pronouncing it as Jello
Class of '86! RocknRoll 🎶🎸🎵
He would certainly help Lars fighting Napster lol
I'm pretty sure hulk is actually playing on the stand back performance from the slammys. There's even a short solo.
@@bdot187um Man! What wonderful input! What would the internet be without sleuths like you?????
I'm from the UK and was a massive WWF fan in 93 and I'd never heard of the Green Jelly/Hulk Hogan cover of I'm the leader of the gang. It didn't go to number 1 though. According to Wikipedia it went to number 25.
The original Gary Glitter version did go to number 1 though.
Hogan once wrestled 400 days a year
Well when you consider the timezone changes from traveling to Japan and back Hogan most definitely transcends time and space......or he is just so full of shit that you can tell he is lying because his lips are moving.
Once, there was a year that had 400 days.
Awesome Shout Out to Wrestling Bios!! What a great channel.
If anyone ever wondered why "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's catch phrase is WHOOOO it was the booger sugar
I saw this while browsing my subscriptions and I was like "ahh, it didn't notify me". Then I realized it was uploaded 5 mins ago. Also, loving the hl2 music.
“Don’t work yourself into a shoot, brother.”-HH
He could wrestle in Japan then fly back to Los Angeles and wrestle again on the same day
It's a shame we never got such Classic Albums as Ride The Hulkster, And Hulkster For All, St Hulkster, and the Penultimate DVD Experience - Some Kind of Hulkster
I don't think I want to Ride The Hulkster
@@bruhbbawallace Good point, Hetfield would probably get on well with him though. He's never stated what his political stance is, but he's certainly more right leaning or possibly libertarian given his love of guns and hunting.
@theneonchimpchannel9095 yeah, i would say given the lyrics on their third and fourth albums that saying james is not a fan of the government might be an understatement lol
This is mind-blowing. Made me appreciate Hulk Hogan even more. Imagine that from a musican to wrestler. HH FTW!
