As the following year (1977) the films Amar Akhbar Anthony and Dharam Veer's songs were at the no.1 position. In 1978 Mohd Rafi was called in to sing the sad version of Zindagi To Bewafa despite Kishore Kumar having already sang the normal version. (Just as was the case for the Song Nafrat Ki Duniya). 1979's hits again were Mohd Rafi's songs from Suhaag and Sargam. 1980's biggesr musical was asha and 1981 hit film Kranti's entry of Mohd Rafi in the song Chana Jor Garam put a milestone between Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi singing. Who are we to compare these two legends? They are the best in their own way. Kishoreda had his masculine voice but he could sing soft, sad songs. Rafi Saab had his classical singing ability. We are lucky to be blessed to listen all legends from hindi film music including Lataji, Ashaji, Mukeshji, Manna De, Talat Mehmood, Mahendra Kapoor etc.

The reason for the controversy was a journalist , Raju Bharatan, who published an interview where RD Burman reportedly told him that he. (Pancham) didn't care for Rafi. Kishore Kumar reined from 1970 to 1975. In 1976 the biggest musical blockbuster of the year Laila Majnu saw the return of Mohd Rafi to the no.1 position. As the following year (1977) the films Amar Akhbar Anthony and Dharam Veer's songs were at the no.1 position. In 1978 Mohd Rafi was called in to sing the sad version of Zindagi To Bewafa despite Kishore Kumar having already sang the normal version. (Just as was the case for the Song Nafrat Ki Duniya). 1979's hits again were Mohd Rafi's songs from Suhaag and Sargam. 1980's biggesr musical was asha and 1981 hit film Kranti's entry of Mohd Rafi in the song Chana Jor Garam put a milestone between Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi singing.
Even after the death of Mohd Rafi Kishore Kumar could never return to the no.1 position. As 1982 was the year for Suresh Wadkar in Prem Rog and 1983 Shabbir Kumar was the no.1 singer with the films Coolie and Betaab (KK did record a song for Coolie but that was rejected and re-recorded by Shabbir Kumar). That was till Mohd Aziz took over from Shabbir Kumar.
