For those struggling with the final steps, I suggest undoing the ribbon once you finish the holes, and expanding them a bit with small scissors or some such. Then put it all back together again, and pull the needle through with tweezers.
You may try to twist the needle left and right before pulling it out. Also, a long and thick needle will help with this project. May you do it successfully.
