My DD13 is leaking the same way. I was quoted $3500 in labor and the mechanic said he refused to re-use the old housing since the truck has 800k miles. I’m a mechanic by trade and honestly feel like I can do the work myself and can buy whatever tools I need and still come out cheaper. He also said it would be a 4 day job. I’m very tempted to just do it myself since I already have all the tools I need minus specialty tools. Should I replace the housing? I feel like if there is nothing wrong with it then there would be no sense in replacing it just because it has 800k miles
@@Michael-id7uh I have reused the housing many times and have not had any issues. Job takes about 10-12 hours. The timing tool is the most critical to ensure your CAMs are time properly. If the housing is damaged then I would understand replacing it. But if it just the seal, then just buy what is needed and go for it.
martin solis I always use my alignment tools (both the crank and the CAM timing tools) unfortunately I didn’t record that so there are some details I didn’t include. Good eye though. In part 2, I will try to include more.
This is the tricky one. You have to pull back towards the exhaust manifold. Back and upward motion. Watch out for the engine brake springs so they don’t pop out
What would make my Detroit freightliner seem like its missing but engine runs fine. It feels like I'm running on knotted tires even when parked. I started losing boost in 9th and 10 gear as well
Could be a number of things. Check the fuel pressure at the priming port. Check the fuel PSI at idle. Then bump up the RPM and check at 1000-1500 RPM. If you remove the small fuel filter check for debris.
It is possible , I recommend to wash to the engine area. Try to avoid the MCM, then start the engine and maintain the RPM 1000-1500. Once the engine is hot, start looking around. Also, is the oil on the driver side or passenger side?
@@CarlosDieselElectric I have same problem. I changed cam hosing seal gaskit but still passanger side oil leaking when engine get hot .. still leaking...
@@KT-ej6fb I have seen the oil filter cap leak. It is possible that when it was installed the o-ring that goes around the cap sometimes gets damaged and allows oil to leak. Very possible, happened to a customer of mine. We were able to catch it before anything happened
Could that cause low oil pressure check engine light to come 🤔? Replaced oil manifold sensor and o rings . But every month or so. I get that low oil check light as soon I reach 1500 rpm. Always watching your videos . Stay humble
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you for taking the time 🙏 650k miles and I'm gonna have the bearings inspected and might as well check everything else since I'm dropping the oil pan. Once again Thank You !
Ive avoided these motors simce new. Was nevwr impressed with them as a truck owner and driver. Now wrenching got talked into cha gong this seal anf wow. Deteoir really screwed the design up on these
Awesome video looking forward to part 2
MrConstant1 thank you.
Good Job 👍

Okay so you are really good mechanic I don’t have to tell you that with that on mind you do not use the timing-alignment tools?

Great information,
I cannot get the exhaust rocker shaft out, all bolts are out and its free but will not wiggle out.

Need same thing for my truck dd13 how much mine cam housing leak oil’s Bo’s side
The job is about 10-12 hours (labor). So depending on the shop.
In labor you are looking at about $1000 plus parts.

How many hours job is it to replace it
Harrison Odoh job is approximately 8-10 hours.

You could have a bearing issue, oil pump issues, how many miles are in the truck?
BTW, the CAM housing will not cause low oil pressure, just oil leaks.

It definitely has its flaws.
