So sad that the early brilliance of ELP turned to hoaky and bombast that soured on me. Curious how you feel about Phil Collins and his early Genesis contributions.
This is simply the best cover of this difficult and beautiful masterpiece of a song on UA-cam or elsewhere. J. Anderson should check it out! Believe he will feel the same. Drum tuning is practically flawless and he emulates almost the entirety of Bruford's performance with only subtle variations. Timing was impeccable.

I figured out Yes Album and Fragile. I am trying to get there myself on Close to the Edge entire album but it will be awhile. You are hands down someone Bruford and Anderson would respect as a professional.

It really is, as a drummer myself...Those Bruford offbeat counts and tempos are just so tasty and fun to play......His cymbal work was really close to the studio... If you can play this; you can practically play anything ... Except some Billy Cobham stuff...:)...

Nicely done. Goes to show how much can be accomplished with a snare, kick drum, a few toms and some cymbals. No need for a 21 piece kit. Bruford's fills and grooves really stitched these complex compositions together.

Bill did play this live, just not with the official YES, but with three of the other four who recorded it with him when he toured with ABW&H. You can see video of it on UA-cam.

It's one of the great losses that he didn't tour in support of Close To The Edge, so the YESSONGS version is Alan's. There is rumor to be a tape somewhere out there of the Lake Placid Union tour show in which everyone leaves the stage except the five who recorded CTTE and they play it. I've never heard it and can't locate anyone with a copy.
Using a 2/4 time signature, that pattern uses two beats and has nine notes (3 triplets) in it. Using midi with 720 ticks per quarter note times 2 = 1440 ticks per 2 notes. 1440 divided by 9 = 160 ticks per note duration. Sorry if I overdid this.

Thanks alot. I would rate both drummers as superb as they both did awesome jobs of being intergal parts of Yes music. Drumming wise, Bill has the polished technique and finesse and Alan has the raw energy and adaptability (just my opinion).
