I didn't find out about Kelpies till I was 68 and then only by chance. We took on a rescue dog from the RSPCA, they said he was some sort of mongrel, we just saw him as a very clever quick learning wonderful dog, he got on immediately with our old dog and took on all the doggy tasks and more in the house. He was 7 months old when we got him, everybody thought he was a wonderful friendly boy, not a bad trait at all. One day a young lady came past our house with an almost identical dog, I called our Zak and he came out, the woman said, "he is a kelpie like mine". Looked up the breed, Zak was definitely a kelpie, saw so many of his kind on UA-cam, we were so smitten with him, he just wanted to do everything, we should have extended him a bit more but he got a severe injury than meant he was unable to run, such a shame. We've had 8 rescue dogs, Zak the kelpie was way above any dog we have ever had for so many reasons.
I love how Buddy went to recover the lost duck, I bet without human interference he would have gathered it back to the flock on his own. Notice how once they set it over the fence he immediately returns to the flock by himself. Good show!
