2CHELLOS just posted their version of Teen Spirit recently performed at their 5th anniversary concert in Croatia. It's more mannered & professional though I prefer this version as Emil & Dariel infuse it with a raw manic teen energy, a little sloppy compared to 2CHELLOS but hey, teens are like that, raw energy 👍👏

As someone who thinks this is the most overrated song ever, i must admit that this is an amazing performance.
I love how one of them is lip syncing the words as they play.

I mean, it is an electric cello... so....
yeah but to me the whole point is to show that a cello isn't just for classical music and it just doesn't sound right
This is just my opinion, but you can parallel this situation to the guitar. There is an acoustic guitar, comparable to the classical cello. Then there's an electric guitar, like and electric cello. It "doesn't sound right" because it's new.

wouldn't you probably think that people didn't like distorted electric guitars when they first came out? They probably said "that's evil sounding!" or "that takes away from the beautiful sound of the guitar" or something like that. So if people don't like distorted cellos, they would likely react in a similar way that people reacted to the electric guitar back in the day. The idea of distortion on a guitar was new at the time and people often don't like new things at first.
The reason you commented saying that it sounded like an electric guitar, is because you're already familiar with that distortion type of sound, as are many other folks. As another commenter said, An acoustic cello is like an acoustic guitar, while an electric cello is like an electric guitar. So people who use distortion on a cello (or any of the other bowed string instruments) are not doing so to replace a guitar, but it's simply that they're using distortion on a cello; it's just another stringed instrument that can be amplified and distorted. If you can do that with a guitar, you can certainly do it with a cello (or a bass guitar, or a banjo, or a ukulele, violin, etc. Just because distortion was and is primarily utilized by guitarists, that doesn't mean it has to be limited to that, and that's just because of the nature of stringed instruments and amplification.
