And I thought we were the coolest crew. We camp out for weeks in the dessert. Take out my sand rail, quads and toyhauler trailer pulled by my big diesel f350. In summer we camp out in different places here in the US for weeks. We 4x4 across different terrains but you guys my friends are super cool its below zero and still camping. That is awesome. I take my hat off for you guys. The ladys remind me of my wife we been in the middle of no mans land turning wrenches at 1 AM. fun times.
These are the beast mode off road vehicles of the great north. I want one!!! I want one!!!!!! I want one!!!!!!!!!! I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@kennethsjarpe5561 Minnesota is nowhere near as treacherous as the North or South Poles. In Minnesota you can pull over and get a hot coffee and donut while you fill up with gas. Just a tiny bit different.
@Dwight Stewart They are using Jet Fuel for some reason. It has a freezing point comparable to gasoline, around -50F. Not sure why they did not just run it on gas. I am sure they have a block heater and the oil pan is insulated and kept warm. "Radiator fluid" AKA Anti-Freeze can be mixed to go below -60F. It took alot of work to get these trucks capable of roaming across Antartica.
Tharn Berry I did not word it as specific as I should have. I was not implying that they run gasoline in a diesel engine. I was wondering why they did not just use a gas engine in the first place.
Sodiumreactor Jet A1 is kerosene, not gasoline and is much more comparable to diesel than gasoline is. Also, the 3 liter commonrail Toyota diesel engines are much better suited to the hard labour these trucks were built for and Jet A1 is also more available.. Add to it that diesel engines can be run on just about anything, are less prone to screw up during water fording, etc etc etc.
Anyone know why Dick Cepek Fun Country tires can’t be found in USA Today? I’m taking about these vintage 44 inch donut looking balloon type tires. These are the tires I grew up looking at in the late 80s. But I see them in Iceland on these Euro 4x4s. But they’re not in the USA no more? Anyone know how to purchase a set of four 44 inch DCs like these guys have?
At those temperatures, how do you keep fuel, engine oil, radiator fluid, and similar from freezing? It’s just too cold for me. My idea of an “expedition” is a summer trip to the beach towing a boat or a campground towing a travel trailer.
Nicholas bob That's not new. Commercial truckers have been using flaps (vinyl, canvas, etc) in front of radiators for decades (in addition to the trucks I've driven, I've even occasionally used aluminum foil on car radiators), but even they'll tell that has limits.
Hilux aren't really aussie rides. ISIS loves the shit out of em. These are built on Taco frames. I believe when this expedition show first came out was around 99 and the Tundra hadn't been a true proven platform yet. I'm sure the crew on the expedition would have killed for the extra room of a 1st gen tundra. Fun fact when Toyota was kicking around the idea of naming their line up of trucks T100 for tacos and t150s for tundras, ford went apeshit and immediately rallied their legal team to put a cease and desist order on that. So... toyota had to come up with another name for their new larger (mildly) big truck and their small 4x4. Tacoma won out for the small truck. This show was a huge success at the time. Makes you wonder how they came up with the name for the big truck....
OokTiaopi LOL Toyotas cheap to repair?? LOL You are high as fuck. Maybe an old toyota .. 85 22RE motor. New 4.6 engines are expensive as hell to repair. Notoriously some of the most expensive to repair. My brother is a service manager for Toyota.. I could show you basic repairs going into the $1000s for parts only.. no labor
I mean you can modify a prius to be extremely durable and rugged. These trucks are so modified from the ground up, I wouldn't even consider them a toyota anymore. It's like if you had a monster truck and you put a chevy exterior chasis on it, or how in nascar they'll put a chevy logo on the front of their cars, it doesn't automatically make it a chevy. Once you start modifying everything, you can't really brag about how tough the brand name is. Nothing against toyota, If it was a chevy or ford or whatever I would have said the same exact thing
ArcticAstrophysics it is toyota frame and engine. Engine may be slightly tune to run in colder weather and have a fuel heater/block heater but that is probably it. Frame is stock with suspension modified to handle 35 and up because no stock suspension can handle that. Most likely rear and front lockers which I have installed on my rig. Their website is on the side of one of the truck give them a email and ask. The hilux 38 was alway on top gear.
No look at the barrels. They're using jet fuel. those are new engines. Toyota is awesome. They're extremely reliable and durable. I'm saying this as a toyota fan. But these aren't even toyotas at this point besides the frame
And I would never be able to afford to go on a trip like this. It looks boring floating around the snow. And did they air drop fuel in WTF not realistic at all and very eccentric. And it's cold as hell
I understand and appreciate your concern, but a handful of little trucks in that vast emptiness, especially for such a short period of time, wouldn't have any effects on the climate there worth talking about.
Good thing they brought the mechanics.
John Shields Jr. nah that’s really only necessary if they were is Chevrolet’s
Absolutely amazing!!!! They brought along their phones, home, gas station, and even a car repair shop....... :-)

Toyota Hilux Diesel, the only wheeled vehicle to drive to both the North and South poles 👍🏻
I am from Minnesota every thing they are doing is second nature for me
@@kennethsjarpe5561 Minnesota is nowhere near as treacherous as the North or South Poles. In Minnesota you can pull over and get a hot coffee and donut while you fill up with gas. Just a tiny bit different.
Because Icelanders love to put big tyres on it and rebuild the undercarriage
@@doddsalfa As shown on U.K. top gear 👍🏻🇬🇧

Because it is diesel not petrol.

You can. U can half ass do it, we got. Autozne, pepboys, o'riley, napa, and. Junkyards😁😁😁😁😁😁 and Walmart new tires, 😁😆😁😊😁
Fantastic have you got a map of the route you took ?
And now let’s see what these things can do at the Bering Straits
When is the last time Arctic Trucks went to the South Pole?
Toyota, the best reliable machine to have......
The Vikings would be proud.
Filmed in Texas February 2021 😂😂👍🏻🇬🇧
8:26.... WOW..... wish i could do something like that....
So... why not fly instead? Or was driving it the whole point?

they probably kept it running and I put a big heavy leather flap Infront of my radiator to keep the engine warm in extreme cold
Nicholas bob

What kind of truck batteries were used , in this escapade..Did they use generators to keep the engines warm overnight....
Dave Smith two European truck batteries in parallel connection

I’m surprised you didn’t use a ford ranger platform

the interior of Antarctica is one place you sure dont want to be broke down, AAA dont go there. SAT phones are as important as food and water.

Lmfao f150!!!! Sorry bud this is the toyota hilux ford wouldnt make 3 minutes out there
Those are 3.0l diesel 2008......
2400 Km ? Avarias em caixa de velocidades ? avaria em suspenção ? Toyota já não é aquilo que era...para alegria do americano.
I guess these would be Toyota TUNDRAS!!!!
swimmer8585 Hilux mate Aussies cars
Here in the States they're called Tacoma's. The Tundra is bigger.
This is the toyota hilux it is basically the tacoma
