Enjoyed this video very much Niels, it’s a marked improvement over your previous ones. And I completely agree with the design choices you’ve made with this hypotetical project... I’d do it if I had a Continental at hand ;)
Just chanced upon your channel and skimmed through some reviews. I can tell I will be here a lot more! I agree with nealy all your changes and you have certainly picked some intersting designs to ctitique. Some designs are sadly beyond redemption (like the BMW M3 in your recent review) however much more interesting to look at are designs in which the fundamental flaws are obvious to improve (the Aston Virage) or this Bentley where it is so close to being great it is actually frustrating! In this Bentley review I had not previously noticed the conflict of the "quattro" arches plus normal arches until you pointed it out! Agree the quattro arch should dominate. The front end revisions are perfect, not sure I agree it needs the large exit stylistically, but I bet in reality some heat loss would be beneficial on a large engine. I would have been interested to see you take on the rear which is also slightly unresolved being an odd mix of old and new, some unneccassary chrome, and the double-bustle boot combined with the boxy sill (presumably hiding some large silencers) creating a rather heavy tail which could do with a litle resculpting.
Many thanks for getting in touch, much appreciated. This car is a very interesting "base" to work on indeed, it is a fact of lack of time (due to our real projects) that made me decide to only do the front end. Glad you like the Aston video too and welcome to the channel! We're trying to post one video a week here on either our work or a design review, such as the M3/M4 you refer to.
Do you have tips for me when doing shading and reflections? I know I have to imagine where the sun is etc, but I haven't done IPO related studies and I struggle with this a lot
The best way to try to grasp this - and it is hard indeed - it is to copy other sketches. Find a sketch you think is fantastic and try to mimic it and its techniques. Try to analyse what you see. Tomorrow another video on car design will come online, so be sure to check that out. It will hopefully be of help too!
An intriguing design update. Perhaps delete the “Turbo” on the side vents? It’s not a Porsche or a boy racer. It doesn’t have to shout “Turbo”. You just know from looking at it that it’s got masses of grunt, and fitted with the last iteration of the old 6.75l V8 it would have 500hp and enough torque to spin up the Moon.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As, at the time, the Turbo engine was quite something special for the brand, in this sketch we used the logo Bentley designed themselves for this veyr car, on the side vents too. One of many ideas that could be used, or ditched, when desiging a one-off motorcar like this. In the end a sketch has to work as a conversation piece mainly.
In no way dissing your work, or that of other car designers/ channels. But many of the redesign i see are about high end cars which obviously already have a pretty solid flair (sorry i cant find the proper english word). I would love to have such a perspective applied to lets say a really drab car, maybe a toyota yaris or a nissan micra or maybe a kia rio cars which are really boring from the start. An analogy i would use is like how i often say a great chef can of course make an awesome meal with salmon, truffles and the like. But for once i would like to see a chef uplift cabbage, brocoli or something equally drab.
Understand the comments entirely. The deal of course is that the Yaris or something equivalent would be wildly expensive to redo. Especially compared to its base price. Hence the fact coachbuilding projects like this car are done on high-end motorcars. You can find more on our Instagram channel!
I spent my childhood redesigning existing cars, It's very easy, The basis of the design is there already all you are doing is making slight modifications, Doesn't take much skill to do that
If you would have paid attention to the video properly the reasons for the car, and the vast differences between the Brooklands and the car in the video, would have been obvious to you. There is no logic in your comment. 😉

Many thanks Matteo! Much appreciated, especially coming from you: not only a fellow UA-camr, but also car designer!

I’d be interested as to what you would do to the rear end of the Continental R. That’s the only part of the original design that jars slightly for me.
Similar work compared to the front: many detailed changes that would improve the original without taking away from its charming character.

And now please do a Turbo R :)
We might... All our work is on client requests though, so we'll wait for the order! ;)
Could this be coach built on a modern Continental GT platform?
It could indeed be coach built on a modern Continental GT platform.

It has Jag XK6 coupe vibes
Thank you for tuning in! The Bentley is indeed a very special piece of car design. More similar videos on the channel you might like too.

Very special cars indeed. And through our work they can be taken into the furutre indeed!

@@NielsvanRoijDesign absolute nonsense. you mixed the continental t with the brooklands. what for? waste of time.
