    Hey! Due to some financial complications, there will be a little period of inactivity between this video and the next. I'm trying to resolve the situation as soon as possible. Aside from that, please don't forget the click the like button & subscribe if you haven't already! It goes a long way!

    Just wanna let you know that Mikael Nyqvist who played the villain in the first John Wick died yesterday. In my eyes, he was a really menacing villain and I really loved his portrayal, and I think a lot of other people did as well!

      Yeah, I read about that last night. A terrible loss. Not only is he a great villain in JOHN WICK, but his performance in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is one of my all-time favourites.

    It's interesting that you note Keanu's meaningless expressions while showing the shot of him in the bank (2:56), which ends with him screaming in rage. I believe it's the one moment in the movie (or franchise) that he shows big emotion.

    • @MrNerdista
      @MrNerdista  7 років тому +22

      Neal Lynch Oh, totally. I think Keanu actually shows a fine range of emotion, but it's his restraint and simplicity that best replicates the sendup to silent cinema.

    • @putzilla1286
      @putzilla1286 5 років тому

      It's not that it's meaningless. Buster Keaton was known as The Great Stone Face because he never smiled. He still portrays a vast array of emotions, but never cracks. This was intended to make the laughs bigger, but it also became a bit of an inside joke.
      Keanu's Wick utilizes the same technique, not necessarily for humor. He has legit reasons not to smile, but it does add to the emotion. Especially humorous moments.

    I remember when I first saw this movie. It was really late after a shitty day. I had failed my calculus test and which would’ve decided my final grade before the final exam and then I had to close at my job with the worst manager and got rejected by my crush. I was the only one in the theater and was just looking for a movie to just kick back to and just escape reality. It just got better and better as it progressed with him finishing off the Russians and then his assassination job in Rome going south and that gun fight in the catacombs and then him being hunted by every hitman in the world and then him fighting in the museum. Every time I thought the movie had outdone itself it just went a step further and exceeded my expectations. This is what I look for in action movies. No political bullshit, no over convoluted plot, no unnecessary twists, no quips during fighting. Just raw action and loud gunfire. This was the best 2 hours of my life. I saw this movie 4 more times in the theater. This was a hell of a way to end a shitty day for me.

    I simply CAN NOT believe that a piece of sh*t called 'Beauty and the Beast' had the biggest success on box office so far this year, when this movie gained barely 160 million $

    • @gaybobfagpants830
      @gaybobfagpants830 7 років тому +1

      Beauty and the Beast cost 160mil to make while John Wick is very bare bones,it's not said how much it cost but it wont be more than 20 mil,at this ratio John Wick and Beauty and the Beast had the same success by gaining around 8 times the production cost.

    Wow! I love Buster Keaton, so how did i not notice that influence on the John Wick films? Oh, man. And i didn't really appreciate the sequel and treat it as a completely separate entity from the first, which is a favorite of mine, but given this new context, i may give it another chance. Great work, good sir. I love your dissection of the references. And the poster? I didn't know! What a wink.
    I love your channel, Mr Nerdista. Hope you have an awesome day!

      Me too! I love Keaton! I was super excited to see it in John Wick 2, but Parabellum's reference? Fantastic! They showed a Cops clip, where Keaton runs from a parade of cops after accidentally committing a crime. Same frantic pacing and theme as the film that featured it!

    That scene where Wick and Cassian are just walking casually through the train station firing at each other with silenced weapons and no one notices is one of my favorite scenes ever.

  • @narwhalman02

    I see what you mean when you say that John Wick and the mute women both do their own stunts makes the movie better. A few months ago I watched the second Mad Max move for the first time, and when my dad told all the cars explosions, destruction was all real, I feel like it added a level of authenticity. When we see those huge CGI explosions, I find myself unfazed, knowing its faked, so that's why I feel when we have authenticity in movies, it makes it better.

    This movie was fucking amazing as well as the first one, but I think the most bullshit scene is the one where John and the other guy (forgot his name) were firing at each other will a bunch of people around them, sure they had suppressers on their guns, but people still should have heard the guns fire.

      @dimitreze 7 років тому +4

      I watch video essays on youtube pretty much every day
      your essay repeats itself a lot, giving little new information
      not much depth too.
      you should watch nerdwriter1, cinematyler, screenprism, Lessons from the Screenplay, Thomas Flight, kaptainkristian, Raging Cinema, every frame a painting, Rossatron and others to help you to improve your videos

    • @MrNerdista
      @MrNerdista  7 років тому +12

      I don't think it's repetitive at all. I am giving examples of send-ups to silent cinema in John Wick 2. I watch all of the channels you mention and am happy to learn from all of them whenever applicable. Thanks for watching anyways.
