Right on. Nicea didn't determine the canon of scripture. A later council did officially agree on the books that had been "unofficially" agreed upon for more than a century before. The one cat should actually research what he's suggesting others research. Also, not much knowledge displayed about "changes" in the Word over time.

Keeping it real, the controversy and debate that went on during these Councils should've never existed in the first place if Jesus and an original Bible ever existed. The whole point of the Ecumenical councils was to DECIDE on and CHANGE what books, canon scripture and the viewpoint of what and who Jesus was. If what he was is true, then what's the use of these Councils????? The Bibles we read today are not the originals, it's all man made.

I just kept hearing people say awhile back that Constantine came up with the biblical canon at Nicea (or some version of that), so I started looking into it. Nothing I could find indicated that this was true, but rather that Nicea was concerned mainly with the deity of Christ, and other information that indicated a later council (can’t remember which one) dealt with the canon.
You guys may be familiar with Bart Ehrman. He is one of the most respected (maybe most respected) New Testament historians…certainly the most well-known today. Ehrman is no friend of Christianity, and is, last I heard, agnostic. Yet he, from his vast study, concludes that the historical existence of Jesus Christ is undeniable. I have also read where he said that there isn’t a single NT historian, that he is aware of (Christian or not) who thinks Jesus did not exist…not one. I don’t know about y’all, but I am not smarter than this bunch, who do this stuff at the highest level day in and day out.
On changes, I didn’t mean that none had ever taken place. Just that the guys on the video weren’t displaying knowledge. For an example of risking change, if I remember right, we know the KJV was translated from the Latin Vulgate, which had been long used by the Roman Catholic Church, not from original language sources. However, the method of translating most modern versions…again, if I understand it…is taken from original sources (as close as possible). My understanding is that there are around 6,000 pieces (copies, partial copies, and fragments), a precious few of which date back to the 2nd century or before just in the Greek. They continue to be found and dated, so it can be hard to keep up with. There are several thousand more copies in a couple other contemporary languages of that time (can’t remember the exact ones). The point is that with so many examples to look at, the folks who analyze these things can do massive comparison studies to discern what was originally written. Most of today’s versions make use of this, and many of them include notes concerning anything they are at all uncertain of, so that it is clear to the reader.
Also, there is no other ancient literary work with as many surviving copies so close to the time of the original documents. It's not even close. In the world these scholars/historians live in, that's a big deal.

I have heard of that but have not studied it. The issue is that we have at our fingertips the original languages to know what the Scriptures teach, when the church came together for the binding of all of the scriptures (which were men from many places including Africa) they looked at what books were in line with all of scripture, looking for consistent teaching about the important doctrines. So those that were against God and Christ and the Gospel were not added. And when they finished they said that they recieved this writings as Gods word, recognizing that it is the Sovereignty and Purpose of God that brought the truth of scripture into one book.

The first Ecumenical Councils was needed not to bind scriptures into one book but to DECIDE on and CHANGE the narratives of scriptures and the Bible itself. The controversy was not just about those who were against Christ but also those against changing the narrative of the earlier Christian writings , which technically had nothing to do with Jesus as God. That's facts. They couldn't decide bc both views had valid points to stand on.... Furthermore, they still remixed the scriptures and added in more than you know. Please believe, the Bibles we read here in the Western world are not the same as the older versions that's still subscribed to in Africa at the oldest churches and Middle East. This within itself deserves question to what the original word of God is if we know it's literally not the same in certain Bible versions.
