I am so glad that I dropped my 77k ADN program, because I knew a profit for profit is not worth it. I may be 27 now and I would have finished at 28, but I rather now get my Bachelors and go for my ABSN. I'll have 2 Bachelors and 2 AAs. I think I'm headed in the right direction now. Wheww, $77K is steep for sure! If you already had a bachelor’s degree in another field, then oh yeah I definitely think the ABSN is the better option! Especially since your ADN program was the same cost (if not more expensive) than alot of ABSN programs out there!
LOL you and me both! There definitely was cheaper options out there, but time (and location) was a big priority for me! Lol I did NOT want to wait 6-15months for some of the cheaper options to be available, and I also wanted to stay near DC. Haha I definitely had to bite the bullet for that😭 but in the end I was super happy with my program-great staff, great location, great NCLEX prep, and I was able to start legit 8 weeks after inquiring about the program😭🙌🏾

So I’m part of a page on Facebook that is dedicated to paying off debt and can say that she posted recently that she paid it all off!!! Even if the number is high, it’s doable in the sense that you can get rid of the debt!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Hahah… I actually called TESU today and spoke to Fin aid. And the advisor told me we can talk about it in July when that time for school fafsa deadlines rolls in. My fear is what if I don’t get enough loans through federal Stanford loans to get through school? I know I get financial aid fully, and I will get some grants- but if the program is that expensive idk how I’ll ever qualify for a private loan. I have no co-signers. Also, the advisor said payment plans. But if I can’t work full time and I’m a single mom how will I ever pay that off? U gotta pay in before the semester starts at TESU. Or set a payment plan. I’m nervous about that. I even asked her how much is the whole program and she wouldn’t tell me. So just like you I am finishing up statistics, and literacy from TESU, and then in May I can take an exam for sociology and Nutrition and pass there tests and get credits for them both. In September , I will start the nursing program. Finally. I wish I can send you the handbook for the nursing and maybe you can explain to me how this probgran works cuz I don’t understand it. Some classes are online, hybrid, and I think clinicals once a week for 12 hours. I know you went in person.. I prefer online honestly. But I gotta do clinicals in person. Hope it’s not everyday. I’m wondering if maybe the academic or admissions advisor might be able to give you a better idea of what to expect as far as how the classes are structured. When I was trying to figure all that out in my nursing school search I gave a call to either the school of nursing admissions department or nursing school coordinator (couldn’t remember which one) and they were able to point me in the direction of who could best answer all those questions for me. They actually even were able to arrange a tour for me of the facility and walk me through how their program setup works. Even if you can’t get a personalized session like that, sometimes schools will have scheduled information sessions that break it all down for you. As far as financial aid goes, perhaps applying for outside scholarships could help, or even in another case, seeking out a more affordable program. When I was on my search I remember Union University in Tennessee had decent prices plus affordable cost of living, and it was one of the schools that was in my final considerations because of that
Oh and the extra that you took out for living expenses, did the school just give you the overage or did all the money come to you and you distribute it to the school?
I think with a little of elbow grease you can pay that off in 2 years. I am 25 and back to school for nursing. It would be my third degree. I'm going to try to cash flow it as I won't qualify for grants or scholarships because many are now looking at income aside of grades or essay at the community college I am at. I think it made sense to take out 6k for living bc rent, food, gas and such is just so high now

I'm down to $6,500 left to pay off so I just gotta finish the race LOL. So my program is a 68 credit hour eligibility for ABSN program (this is my first bachelors) I got about 21,000 in grants for the year but I only got about 10,000 in sub+unsub loans. Tuition itself is about 45k, but I’d also need room and board and thats what’s shooting the cost to 60K+. School starts in 3 weeks and i’m very confused as to where to go from here
Sheesh, these program costs sure do stack up quick! But that’s awesome you got a really good amount of grants! What I had to do when my costs weren’t completely covered through grants and fafsa loans was apply for an additional Private Loan. I used a company called Mefa. For my loan application though, rather than request the exact remaining amount I needed for tuition, I requested the amount I needed for the remaining tuition balance + how much I would need for room and board. The Private loan company distributed the funds to my school, and since my school did not provide room& board, that extra loan money that was greater than the tuition amount was refunded to me, and I then used that money for rent & living expenses

Hey there!! I studied at Shenandoah University (their satellite campus in Leesburg, Virginia. I personally enjoyed the program alot, but most of my research when searching for programs at the time was on which programs I could get into the quickest, in a certain location, and with good NCLEX pass rates. Nope! I had a FAFSA loan for my first bachelors degree so I didn’t have to pay on it while I was in my nursing school program. However, the FAFSA loan was unsubsidized, so the interest was still accruing while I was in school, even though I didn’t have to pay on it

LOL YES I would have been in a much worse spot without that nice financial aid package! My TOTAL debt was actually $90K if you include my Sports Medicine Degree, but I’ve gotten it down to $21K as of today😭🙌🏾 Haha and omg yes the 4 semesters was definitely intense but I feel like naturally as humans we just adapt to whatever craziness is thrown at us😅 Cause I feel the same way about people who did 12 month programs! Lol I needed at least 15 months! Lol and ooh definitely! I’m going to dig out my old nursing school budget for the next video!
@@ashafreeman2730 It's funny you mention that cause I actually did have sort of a wonky method for paying it down LOL. So because of the COVID pause (and 0% interest accrual) on Federal student loan payments, I was putting money aside in a savings account to be ready to pay off my FAFSA loan once the forebearance was lifted because my FAFSA loans ($30k, 4.5% interest) have a higher interest rate than my Private loans ($60K 2.75% interest). So in the meantime, I was making the minimum payments on my Private loans, and throwing the rest of my cash at that FAFSA loan account. Once that account hit the $30K I needed for the FAFSA loan, I just threw everything else at the Private student loan, which got down to $21k! HOWEVER, because the Federal forbearance kept getting more and more extensions (they're talking about pushing it to JUNE 2023 now!!), I decided to say screw it! I took the $30k from the FAFSA account and paid off the rest of my Private loan (which has active interest accruing, although only 2.75%) and now I'm just stacking up the FAFSA account again to have it paid off before it's due and interest accrues again

Great Question!! The loan company distributed it all to the school, and the school gave me the overage in the form of a “refund check”

Nope! I had a FAFSA loan for my first bachelors degree so I didn’t have to pay on it while I was in my nursing school program.
However, the FAFSA loan was unsubsidized, so the interest was still accruing while I was in school, even though I didn’t have to pay on it
