And Eddie Van Halen‘s own words, he claims he did not invent tapping or even name it. He just used it and incorporated in his playing. He also said that he was one of the first cats to integrate into his music, using harmonics and tapping in a musical kind of way and not just as a technique that was thrown in there… RIP, Eddie… Sorely missed, but never forgotten… He lives on, and the music that he inspired me to play every day… Anyway, keep on rocking
You knuckleheads are taking this out of context. No one was playing like eddie before eddie. I'm aware of hackett, lifeson and larry carlton, but no one had a LANGUAGE like edward. You wont find it. It doesnt exist. What don is saying is basically correct, even though he's a narcissistic idiot himself. Eddie was speaking with his instrument, and everyone else was masturbating notes.
Greatest decade of music in my lifetime was....1979 to 1989...I was 9 to 19yrs old and what a great time to be alive,,,,,,music will NEVER top that decade,,,,,,,NEVER
Gotta love Don... Eddie drove an Opel Kadett with no passenger seat and the passenger side tied shut with a guitar string...and Wolf wasn't born yet in 1988
Great story! The Whisky isn’t too far from where Starwood was. 4 Blocks? maybe not exact, he’s exaggerating here but it’s pretty close Thanks Don for the music and the great stories!

" I still have the flyer , it says Van Halen Quiet Riot and Dokken" .. wait.... at Randy Rhoads farewell shows at the Starwood? Van Halen was huge 2-3 years before Randy joined ozzy, Halen wasn't playing the Starwood at that point......
I wasn't there but Van Halen didn't play at the Starwood for Randy's last 2 shows with Quiet Riot. VH had did 2 world tours by then & didn't play clubs anymore. He's probably confused. And we all know QR & VH only ever played one gig together & that was in Glendale. So I would love to see this flier he mentioned. I'm sure Dokken played with QR but not VH.
exactly, there were several timeline gaffes in this. they'd have to play 3 shows on that tour to be in front of 120,000 people. or 5 in Miami that was famously 27,000 people..

Don can’t keep track of his lies even in the same conversation. He had a 72 Van his guitar was always on Hock. Then next sentence is literally I had a 57 chevy Nomad back then. What a clown enough of this wannabe Legend. George Lynch was why people went to see Dokken.
Also, Dokken is either delusional or lying about several things in this. Eddie didn't invent 2 hands on the neck. Steve Hacket was doing it in the early 70's, You can see here on u tube Ace Frehley doing it but using a pick in 1974 & Eddie said he never said he invented it & the monsters tour was in 88, Wolf was born till 91, so wtf is he talking about? Not done watching yet so I may comment again.

Monsters of Rick Tour 1988. Edward didn’t have Wolfgang until 1991.
That's true although Valerie had a miscarriage before Wolfgang was born
Wolfie a secret for three years , it just wasn’t publicized and you didn’t know about it till 1991
That makes sense,so if she miscarried again it wouldn't be public....@@humanactivated1017

Eddie still invented tapping anger as dokken is concerned and me too
Guitarists were tapping up to 20 years earlier.

Rhoads wasn't even slightly close to Eddie Van Halen guitar genius
First time I heard tapping, Steve Hackett. GENESIS

Your stories are killer Don you've had some great life ❤
Starwood was on Santa Monic Blvd. The Whisky is on Sunset Blvd. We’ll let this one slide cause we love ya, Don 😂
Great story! The Whisky isn’t too far from where Starwood was. 4 Blocks? maybe not exact, he’s exaggerating here but it’s pretty close
Thanks Don for the music and the great stories!
These are such great stories.
That's the Don I knew in the 90's - he was - is- a sweet guy.
Great story!

LOL @ the duct tape story...LEGEND!!!!
My brother owned a 57 nomad. Unfortunately he was in a wreck in it and died in 78.
Very interesting video about the early
days of VH. Thank you very much!
Good interview
Van Halen played two club shows with Quiet Riot in late 1979? I kind of doubt that.
He just have the time frame wrong - they didn’t play together in 1979
He said 77
@@toddclarke1580 He said the first time he saw Van Halen was in 1977. The final Quiet Riot shows before Randy joined Ozzy were in late 1979.
By 79 they were headlining arena’s 😂😂🍆🍭🍆🍭
@@NeilAlohaincorrect. 1st 2 albums they were an opening act. Not until 1980, WACF, "hide the sheep tour" were they headliners.
Cool story.
Great story,Thanks for sharing ROCK THE FUCK ON DON DOKKEN
Love Don dokken !
Ace Frehley was doing it back in 1977
Is Don purposely running a memory test on all of us?! Following his timeline is impossible
😂
Agreed ..his timeline is all over the place
" I still have the flyer , it says Van Halen Quiet Riot and Dokken" .. wait....
at Randy Rhoads farewell shows at the Starwood?
Van Halen was huge 2-3 years before Randy joined ozzy, Halen wasn't playing the Starwood at that point......
Don tells some decent stories, quite entertaining
Ed had Guardian Angel 😇
Like me made it home with 2 flats
Great story. Don's a duck tape guy like me LOL.
Fantasy land
I thought Randy's farewell shows were at the whisky
Steve Hackett of Genesis was doing tapping long before EVH.
I wasn't there but Van Halen didn't play at the Starwood for Randy's last 2 shows with Quiet Riot. VH had did 2 world tours by then & didn't play clubs anymore. He's probably confused. Played to 120,000. LOL!! That tour didn’t draw enough to turn a profit. They barely broke even
exactly, there were several timeline gaffes in this. they'd have to play 3 shows on that tour to be in front of 120,000 people. or 5 in Miami that was famously 27,000 people..
Could have had a few shows to a massive crowd. And some "not".... and as a whole it probably wasn't a big sellout or moneymaker.
Chris Holmes told the duct tapes tire story? but he said they were on Santa Monica Blvd? probably coming from the Starwood or somewhere?
That actually is a different story all together... two different incidents . Apparently Eddie had some bad luck with cars lol.
I think chris Holmes story was Eddie has a flat and someone with him stole a tire and wheel off another car
That's it yep ! @@technicalitems731
Chris is the one that stole the tire for him lol@@technicalitems731
I dont care if Don doesnt remember the right details, but I love his stories. Rock n roll is 35% myth anyway.
Don's got his timeline all screwed up.

Nah just old age he's over 60 now. @@hazor777

Alvin Lee did the 2 hand tapping well before Eddie
