ESPECIALLY Cliffs of Dover. I can play the Tornado solo and at one point i could play the Cliffs intro (I’ve since forgotten) but honestly Tornado is easy in comparison imo (even though obviously tornado is still insanely hard)
Cliffs of dover has been the song that haunts me for years. Tornado of souls I got after a ton of practice but Cliffs I’ve tried and failed many times… one day
@@sweetchiliyeetthere are lots of good covers on tornado of souls out there but not cliff of Dover. It’s harder and complicated to play than what we usually hear.
I'm probably a nice intermediate level. Sweet child O'mine is a doable solo but I can't play the 2 parts where he breaks out into really quick triplets. Literally can't get that fast😂
Up the metronome to like 15 bpm too fast... keep trying to play it even though it'll be sloppy, then drop to 20 bpm under tempo, get it 100 percent clean, and up the bpm 5 each attempt. Spend like 15 minutes doing this for a few days, and then just give it a try at full speed. You'll be surprised how quickly you get there.
Awful lot of self-proclaimed intermediate guitarists here saying they can play Cliffs of Dover. Either yall are more advanced than you're letting on, or, more likely, you can "play" Cliffs of Dover but it's an absolute shitshow when you do. No shame on not being able to play it, but claiming you can while being intermediate is a HUGE stretch in one direction or the other.
Agreed, I’m very much an intermediate player and have been working on cliffs of Dover for 3 months, I can play like half of it passably but absolutely no where near perfect
Been playing for like 2yrs and I can almost cleanly play it up to speed with all the little nuances and stuff, I spent like 8hrs a day for a week just playing it slowed down over the actual song. I always get skeptical too tho when I hear people saying they learned a song really quick and it just ends up sounding like guitar center mode
Bottom line, when he says you should be able to play these, he means you can play it perfectly, in metronome-perfect time, and preferably in front of people. That's an "advanced" player.
@@carminep.5960 They say that but I am unimpressed. The dude plays the same goofy style in every song. There is no menace in his tone, no bite, no hair, just goofy, staccato noodling, like a poodle running around the yard.
@@husky710 Cliffs of dover, and getting the sweeping and reaching perfect in tornado of souls is extremely difficult. But Sweet Child of mine is pretty doable if you practice it hard enough for a week, and the same with sultans of swing, the hardest part with that is it's just a different style and feel to typical guitar playing.
I would rank them from easiest to hardest as such: Sultans of Swing -> Sweet child of mine -> Crazy Train -> Cliffs / Tornado about equal (cliffs probably takes it though). I could see where the first two are intermediate, maybe even crazy train. That being said, for your average guitarist, cliffs and tornado need 100s of hours of practice to get them up to speed if youre not familiar with the techniques (sweep, hybrid picking, picking 16ths at 200 bpm, etc). There are literal entire picking courses out there just to help people learn the advanced techniques used in these songs.
I can play the crazy train solo. That’s a beginning advanced level solo. I have a lot of practicing to do before I’ll be able to get to TOS or COD, a lot more sweep and economy picking practice; they’re high advanced solos
I'm probably still a beginner, All I could play were Linkin Park songs from the 1st and 2nd Albums, Slipknot songs, Eyeless, Psychosocial(without the solo), Before I forget, Duality. I'm 11 months in since I came back playing guitar since I stopped playing acoustic for a decade.
Both, you need to be technically good to be able to add musicality to your performance, as you should be able to play so easily and effortlessly that emotion is the only thing that matters to you. Great technique with no feeling is like listening to a midi.
@@Tortualexcorrect answer. People think bends and slow music is more emotional and feely and musical but I wholeheartedly disagree, that's just a few styles really. Adding proper flair and restraint is different than just bending and using simple techniques with no real musical direction or substance is lame too. @@XxXHardcoreshredderxXXxxxxxxxx Id that were the case then the classical virtuosos (Beethoven, Paganini, Bach) are a bunch of nonsense which is not. The key point is balance to have to know where to shred and where to be slow. Also a good shredding sound good when played slowly.
Any guitarist can learn how to mimic finger positions for a well known solo. But can you improvise over a blues backing track? Or any backing track? Can you play the Pentatonic Minor long form? If you can't. the you're just a mimic guitarist.
I guess I’m somewhere between intermediate and advanced bc I can almost do all of those but probably about 30-50% of those licks would trip me up. Defs the sweeps

Hey! I’m just wondering where you get the sheet music or tabs for songs because every time I use something like ultimate guitar they’re either just way too easy or outright incorrect. Thanks!
No, you are right. Cliffs of dover is an exceptional hard piece to play. Brandon missed to add vibrato on the second bend, and did not pick every note during the fast runs, using pull offs instead, whereas Eric picks every single note. And we are just talking about 1/3rd of the intro only.
