Not to say the discovering of tunes usually hidden behind the famous songs. That's the DJ contribution: the rescue of other songs and artists, their incorporation into the genre repertoire.
Very well said. If you were to ask for someone who isnt from Colombia to list a salsa song they may list a very popular and common one. But what this DJ did was play a song usually only colombians would recgonize. Truly digging into the culture that was formed within for decades upon decades

This makes her work even more impressive, she's rescuing songs which weren't popular during their time and bringing them to a larger audience. As I said, I listen to salsa a lot and could only recognize 3 of the songs displayed here. However, I can recognize they're amazing songs, and they make me curious to explore new artists, forgotten by time. She's doing God's work, if there is one.

That's true, and it's such an essential and overlooked part of Latin culture, "alegria, alegria" like my abuela use to say, to talk about heartbreak, mourning, abandonment and slavery and dance in joy anyways. Dancing the pain away and expressing joy in a cruel world is an act of defiance.

this reminds me of my summer in ecuador. so many friendly people made all the more beautiful by the smiles on their faces. spent so much time outside because the sunshine calls out to you. lived in a small apartment with 3 other girls and had a party or at least friends over a couple times a week. everyone there knew how to dance. damn i miss that.

I love how the lyrics to many of these songs are actually sad, yet the beat is still amazing hahahah. I never paid too much attention to this music, since i hear it everywhere, but It´s actually super good and im so happy so many people are enjoying it.

That's true, and it's such an essential and overlooked part of Latin culture, "alegria, alegria" like my abuela use to say, to talk about heartbreak, mourning, abandonment and slavery and dance in joy anyways. Dancing the pain away and expressing joy in a cruel world is an act of defiance.
It happens that when we grow up we recognize social and emotional dilemmas of life and music being a head of art, talks about this difficult life patterns and brings all our emotions to life.

this reminds me of my summer in ecuador. so many friendly people made all the more beautiful by the smiles on their faces. spent so much time outside because the sunshine calls out to you. lived in a small apartment with 3 other girls and had a party or at least friends over a couple times a week. everyone there knew how to dance. damn i miss that.

I think she's chinese and latina mixed but it really dosent matter. I am Irish and Nicarauense and I hate to be judged. Her mixes are always top shelf. Dated a colombian woman and a venezuelan woman.
