    A review suggestion: when you review headsets, as FOV, and maybe sweetspot, is so dependent on how your face and eyes are shaped, could you have a friend, or girlfriend, measure it too? They don't have to be in the video, you just tell their results. This is something I miss in VR headset reviews.

    I haven't read of anybody else having those same problems with the Vive Console software (freezing, crashing, not "liking" SteamVR). And it works 100% fine for me so far.
    My problem is the forced 45fps cap (on 90 Hz) and ghosting even while Motion Control is turned off. My GPU is nowhere near being fully utilized. No other HMD does this, AFAIK. They all offer a free-ranging FPS mode, where the FPS is just whatever the PC can render.

    • @Darrylx444
      @Darrylx444 3 роки тому +2

      @@Helifax19 HAGS is already off. That's not the cause of the 45 fps cap problem anyway, it's due to Vive. Also, the same PC works fine with Pimax.

    • @Darrylx444
      @Darrylx444 3 роки тому

      @@Helifax19 Of course if your PC can always hit 90 then it doesn't cap at 45. And yes, if you can hit 90, then during a frame spike the FPS display will show a brief excursion due to the polling method (it's showing a rolling average over a few seconds, not precisely real-time). It's really capping briefly at 45 then releasing. But it will NEVER actually settle in between the range of 45-90 fps, like it absolutely does on other HMDs. Vive is preventing this.

    • @JrBoi12
      @JrBoi12 Рік тому

      I got mine last week and the 45fps isnt something I have.
      There is an option in the software that you can set to make it force 45fps or even 1/3 the Hz or an Auto mode that will put it to 45FPS IF you cannot handle a steady 90.
      I have it disabled and I just use the steamvr built-in FPS limiter (45fps lock for my sim games and full range FPS for my gun/mmo style games)

    I brought a Vive Pro 2 and I'm dissapointed that they restircted the max IPD to 70mm (as I have 75mm) and the sweet spot is very small, and god rays are bad. I found the FOV to be larger than the Vive Pro and a lot wider than the HB Reverb G2. I'm trying return my Vive Pro 2 or I'll sell it. The Vive and Vive Pro had a max IPD of 74mm, I don't understand why manufactures are not making HMD's to cater for larger IPD's. The VP2 lenses have a very small sweet spot, compared to the G2 (with max IPD 68mm), I was able to focus better in the G2, but still out of focus. I also don't like Windows Mix Reality, it creates pretend virtual screans that I have to disable. The Valve Index is not available in Australia, so I don't consider it as an option. I'm not touching an Oculus, first the max IPD is too small, secong I don't want Facebook advertisements in my games.
    I just brought the Pimax 8K X (was the same price as the VP2 with an Amazon sale), and I'm impressed, the manual max IPD is 70mm and then there is a software IPD adjustment so I can get to 75mm, the upscalling works a treat, the fixed foveated rendering works well with most games, then you can adjust the FOV, colours and other things in Pi Tool. It is amazing. The Pi Tool takes a while to pick up the HMD, annoying but gets there in the end. I had trouble first installing it, as the firmware update crashed and I had a horrible red-green-blue flashing problem, which I only fixed by setting it up on another PC and updating the firmware from it. It's colours are not as vibrant as the VP2 or G2, and the pixel density is a little lower, if the VP2 was 100%, then the G2 is 95% and the 8K X is 90%, practically no screen door affect.
    Next I need to save up to get Valve Index Controllers, they cost $1,000 in Australia, the same as the G2 and only $300 or $400 less than what I had to spend to get the VP2 and 8K X. Fortunately we can't travel anywhere in Australia, with the boarders shut, so not spending money on travel or accommodation.

    At some point in the video you are showing project cars 2 gameplay and complaining about it running at 50fps, but your steamvr resolution is set to 150%. You should consider lowering that to 100%, as the render resolution won't be the 5k that you need to drive for the vp2, but almost 8k (5k ish x 1.5, which is absolutely insane),

    I wish I have seen this review before. I bought Vive pro 2 a few days ago and returned it the same day I got it. The experience was terrible in basically every aspect. Resolution is the only quality of this headset and it's still blurry on the edges. Even with 7k super sampling in steam vr. To be honest the pixel density is barely better than quest 2 despite big resolution difference.
    Even now I believe valve index is the best headset on the market. Unless one sleeps on the money and can buy some super expensive headset like varjo valve index holds the crown. The resolution might not be top notch but sub pixel layout helps with that a lot and with super sampling it's really solid.

    Look behind this guy, have you ever seen so many VR headsets in one place. With his experience of VR headsets, its obvious he knows what he is talking about. He is trying so hard to tell it as he see's it, and at the same time trying to be open minded and not be biased, a difficult undertaking! So if Thomas says its like looking through a letter box, then i have no reason to doubt him. After the cosmos debacle, I was hoping Vive would get their act together and produce a headset better than the current leader(valve index) even if it was a bit more expensive than what is already a very expensive headset. Well, it seems to me that they have made an inferior headset and still made it more expensive than the index. What's the bet HTC Vive goes out of business, or at least gets out of VR, AND blames Covid, I mean it couldn't be because they make crap underdeveloped products could it? My RTX 2080 is also not good enough to run it properly so that would need updating too. So I still wait for a Valve Index MK2.
