Another great tag along with you guys. Sorry to see the critters took out the cabbage. Looks like you have some work ahead yourselves with all the plants. Hopefully you find time to enjoy some more fishing. Lou don't let her pick on you too much. Great hang out with you guys as always. Stay living country.

Do you have a row cover you can put over the cabbage and broccoi?
I'm not putting our tomatoes in until next week. I planted our potatoes with alfalfa and sulfur and they are already rooting! Best they've ever done! I have been experimenting with alfalfa and the results have
    been amazing!

The same thing happened to my little garden last year. Deer took alot of it, then the birds and rabbits took what they could eat.
The lives are missed but totally understand. Thanks for the update about them. No matter how much you enjoy something burnout will happen and breaks are needed.

Not sure about the smaller critters, but wonder if a life-sized mechanical scarecrow that moves on a timer would help with the deer problem. The battery could remain charged with a solar charger. Just a thought...

Invest in some paper mesh tunnels. Plant a row and put the tunnel over it. Works great. 😊
Your tomato plants just need to be laid down in a trench when planting. Take off all branches except the last two or three and bury the long stem under at least 6 inches of soil. Water well and you’ll be good to go. I usually put a gallon milk jug over them. I cut 3 sides on the bottom and fold the flap back. Face the flap into the direction of the wind putting the jug over the plant, place a brick on the flap. Take the cap off. Works great. 😊

Now flowers for some reason this season are doing really good. Example first time I have ever had mums come back up and they are supposed to be annual flowers not perennial. I looked somewhere online and this woman was who has an online channel about mums said something about the root ball system being just slightly above the potting soil level and when I planted mine I left a little bit on the top just a little bit above the soil and after they died I trimmed off the dead flowers but left all the stocks from the flowers and I noticed in late winter I saw greenery coming out from the base and when it started warming up I trimmed off the little stocks and have not watered it since I trimmed back the stocks and they are really tall and wide so I found out depending on what brand or kind of mum flowers you get also depends on what you do to them to have them grow new leaves depends also on what store you get them from. Example my Walmart sold two different kinds of mums and I went based off of looks because I know how I like them to look and the ones that always seem to look the best were the better homes and garden brand name. I got it rust colored orange and the other one is burgundy in color. I got them for the fall for Halloween and Thanksgiving and was not expecting much after they died off but sure enough they're back up thriving better than ever and bigger than ever so far. Hopefully they can last for years doing the same thing. I bought my potting mix from Lowe's and if I'm not mistaken it's an organic potting mix that specifically for big potted plants and flowers it also has slow release plant and flower food but anyways I'm rambling. Just letting you know that for some reason flowers seem to be doing really good down here and some vegetables are doing good like for example tomato plants aren't doing as well but potato plants are sprouting up like weeds literally. So I don't know what's going on because this weather has been really funky lately.

One year the raccoons had a big party in my garden, we were harvesting it almost daily. I go out one day and they shucked most of the corn and left them on the stalk. anything they didn't like, they ruined. Looks like your taking it the only way you should, chin up 🙃nothing you can do about it. I'd wait a few before you mow, until the leaf broadens a bit .
As always, your friend from the PNW, ❤you both, Dave.

Put up poles and chicken wire around the whole perimeter of the area of the vegetables in this case cabbage that are being eaten by birds and deer and such and then make sure it's tall enough and put chicken wire on the top as well. That will keep birds or at least big birds and it will keep deer out and still be able to get rain water or if it's being watered manually can still be watered

    • @LMCountryLiving

Hello Mr. Lou and Mrs. M the best scenario to your problem with deer or whatever animal is eating your cabbage. My suggestion to your animal problem is put yourself up a 8 ft high wire fence as well as a 8 ft high wooden gate around the whole perimeter of your garden. I'm in the process of putting me up a 8 ft high fence and 8ft high gate around my garden as well before I plant my garden. My deer problem is bad and I'm so tired of spending money in plants and seeds to let the wildlife eat it away from my household. Thank you for the update on your videos and I look forward to seeing you 2 plant your garden and your other videos. Be blessed you 2 until I see you 2 again.

I'm sorry to hear about your garden and the weather all around the United States has been really shady sort of speak. Supposedly spring type of weather meaning warmer weather was supposed to be 6 weeks earlier or right on time according to the groundhog and for some reason we've been having these spurts at night and early in the morning where it's been super super cold and that's here in the south so I have no idea how gardens are actually going to produce honestly and usually I'm pretty good about letting y'all know if it will do good or not. This year I was kind of iffy about it and that's why I have not planted anything yet because this extreme cold nights and mornings are not over yet. I hope your garden does better and hopefully it warms up enough to where your garden can thrive. One of the guys that's a vendor putting out the little Debbie snacks at my store actually took potatoes tomatoes onions and a couple other things from the store that he purchased and planted them in a mixture of organic regular soil from the ground and hay for his potatoes particularly and they are really popping up there I mean they are in I can't explain it they're actually doing really good and he was shocked because of this cooler weather but then again like I said we're here in Alabama so I don't know but I do know it has been extremely cold at night and in the mornings and warm in the afternoon and evening.

    • @LMCountryLiving
      @LMCountryLiving  2 місяці тому

Its been a crazy one for sure but up here we usually have like 5 winters in spring and the last really cold one is when the dogwoods bloom and they just bloomed so we should just have one more and its just a cool spell when the blackberries bloom. I dont know what them blooming has to do with anything but my dad goes by it every year.

Get some netting up to keep the birds off. If it is strong enough it may keep the deer off as well if you build a fairly stable structure to attach the netting to.

You got to remember the lives are really not that important although I do enjoy them whenever I get a chance to get on live with you guys which is not that often considering when you guys go live I'm at work, go figure. Lol but you're still making video content and that I can watch at any time which I can watch your lives at any time but I can't conversate back and forth with you guys and that's what makes lives good but considering your overall health in general is good then that makes me happy that you two are doing good for the most part. Just keep up the good videos and whenever you feel that you're ready to do lives again then I will be more than happy to watch them when I can but until then take care of yourself first and when you feel you're ready then that's your time. Remember you have control of your content not anybody else. I just leave comments on your content trying to give you either some tips or pointers or just to say hi and how you are doing. Keep doing what you're doing because I always will love your channel.

Could your cabbage that you said look like it was just chopped off could it have been cut worms that done it my mom always had problems with cut worms chopping hers off when she first put them in the ground so she learned to wrap a little aluminum foil around the stock so the cutworms did not kill them and they would grow up
