I love the edit they made at the end of Kirran's SSJ4 rant where they show part of the trailer for SSJ4 Gogeta coming to FighterZ. It was truly serendipitous how the announcement happened the same day as the original list entry and I'm 99.9% Kirran creamed his jeans.

I mean, *I* did, so he DEFINITELY did
You know what I just realized? Super Saiyan God for Goku isn’t “earned” in the usual way, but in some ways, he ABSOLUTELY earned it through his actions as a whole in the series. From starting a family with ChiChi to letting Vegeta live after the Saiyans attack, there wouldn’t BE enough Saiyans for the ritual to occur, or, at the very least, there wouldn’t be enough Saiyans who could agree on doing the ritual together to give one Saiyan a major advantage. Through his actions, his kindness, and his attachment to humanity/Earth, he builds a family and community of Saiyans who would perform this action.

I was literally about to comment the same thing! A big theme of this and many Shonen manga is training, but another common theme is the power of friendship/cooperation/relying on others/etc. super saiyan god is explicity a combination of both of those themes. It's a power he can only achieve because he had pure hearted friends who trusted him enough to impart that power to him, but also, because he has trained his body so well, once he gets it once, his lifetime of intense training is what allows him to handle it and keep it.
I think that makes it a good metaphor for power in real life. In the real world, the most powerful people are politicians, wealthy business owners, famous people, etc, and those poeple are at the height of their power when they are both
A). Competent because they have trained a lot in their area of expertise
and B). They've legitimately earned the trust of the people they lead, as opposed to forcing cooperation through violence
There are some people who are very kind and sociable, but not competent, so they can earn peoples trust and cooperation, but onc3e they have it, once they achieve a leadership roll, they don't handle it well, and burn out. Alternatively, there are incredibly competent people with bad social skills who are better than most at their chosen field, but cant for the life of them learn how to play nice with others, so they never gain access to the powers afforded to you when you learn to work with others. If you think about it, villains of shonen are often characters who have one of those qualities, but lack the other, or a heroes arc throughout the story is learning to increase one or the other so that they are in balance.
Kieran gushing unrestrained about Super Saiyan 4 is one of my favorite things that Team Four Star has put out in their entire time on the internet.
I like that addition of Kirran getting his wish like on the spot.
I would choose Kid Buu's transformation over the others honestly. Something about "screaming at a cliff for five minutes until I go insane" is relatable.

I still want to say that the design of Super Saiyan, on it's initial showing, is my favorite where there are less lines, less spikes and it literally looks like floofed, light blonde hair instead of the super gelled, super oiled looking hair we get from then on in the Buu Arc and onward. Even when powered up it doesn't need to be super shined or oiled or shaded like the later hair does.
I'm so glad when they went back to that type of look in the Broly Movie. Again, less is more and that, to me, definitely translates in that instance.
With you on that. Let the visual distinction of Super Saiyan 2 be the gelled/oiled look in addition to the change in bangs to make it more visually distinct from regular Super Saiyan.
@@danmenard6917 I also wished they stuck with no more than 9 lumps of hair to stand up on Goku and then make SSJ2 SUPER SPIKY and smaller but vastly more clumps of hair.
Absolutely agreed. Super Saiyan 1 has never looked as beautiful to me as it was during the fight with Frieza on Namek. The lighter pale yellow looks so much more ethereal and legendary than the...mustard yellow spikes it became.

Honestly what I loved about ultra instinct was the role Roshi played in it, I thought it was a nice callback to his biggest job in the storyline - being Goku's teacher

@@SilentxKillerx5 Goku pretty much forgot everything about martial arts, focusing only on power, so Master Roshi was disappointed in him, and decided to remind him of his roots. He emulated Ultra Instinct, and was eliminated by Jiren, which finally got Goku to remember who he is, The Turtle School's Son Goku. As he says this, he awakens to Ultra Instinct.
@@justanautomaton It frustrates me that the manga AND anime adaptations of ToP are both so flawed considering there was so much there for a fantastic story. They built up this tournament two arcs before, brought in all the side(lined) characters, brought back FRIEZA which, if that wasn't cool enough, gave him some interesting character growth, ULTRA INSTINCT (which was also built up) and countless fantastic character moments. I'm not surprised at how good it was, I'm surprised it was only as good as it was.

As someone who never watched GT at all, the way Kirran passionately speaks about SSJ4 and the impact it had on him does make me appreciate it. It may not be something I'm into, but it definitely has an impact on the audience that I agree deserves a spot.
Yeah man those of us that grew up watching gt after z (I was fortunate my cousins saw gt when it aired and were huge fans so lent me their blu rays), GT is the official ending somewhere back in our psyche. We know it isnt official or canon but as a child thats what you saw as the end of the series...When dbgt ended, I cried man, I cried...Its a lot more of an emotional connect with gt and ssj 4 by extension than it being good...
Watch some clips and stuff, specifically some shadow dragon stuff (Mainly Nova, Eis, and Sin/Omega) SSJ4 Gogeta, and the ending (Which a lot of people agree is the best ending in all of Dragon Ball

The Baby saga had terrific potential, and SSJ4 was an amazing looking transformation.
SSJ4 basically looks powerful. You see it and at a glance, you know better than to mess with that. It's something Blue failed in because we never saw what led up to it in the first place, AND it's a recolor of normal Super saiyan.
Super saiyan, ignoring the transformations after, looks feels powerful. Blue, despite the lore, looks cheap to me.
And GT's ending is, honestly, just fantastic. The sendoff the characters get is genuinely touching. You've seen them grow up from kids into their later years, and Goku's suddenly a kid again going away for 100 years, and he has one final chance to say good bye to his loved ones, as the next time he returns, they'll be gone, and barring his granddaughter, they all are. He's regarded as a both a hero of the earth and a master martial artist just as Mr. Satan was, but no one really notices him.
And the fact that he seemingly vanishes instantly from Pan's sight makes you question whether or not he was really there to begin with.
GT wasn't well written, but my god, they nailed the ending.
It definitely had an impact on the fandom, whether or not an individual even liked GT. I don't, but I still have those same SS4 hype memories from the dawn of the internet. Hearing the creator of the form fangirl over Toriyama illustrating the form is so wholesome. I needed that. I've always thought it had a cool aesthetic, but hearing those interviews really made me cherish it. I wish GT had lived up to the hype of SS4. I almost let it completely eclipse SS4, despite the weird promethean brows on SS3. xD SS4>SS3

Well that depends on how much the sense beans heal. Like in trunks special, would Gohan’s arm have been healed if he ate the bean cause it’s kinda implied?
senzu beans can not give you your arm back so there fore there tail would not come back.
I thought they only sped up your bodies natural healing while putting them in the best condition possible for healing. Like yamcha can have a whole in his chest healed, but his scar won’t go away.
@@chrise76776 they ran out of Senzu Beans after he lost his arm. there was only 1 left and it was either him or a dying Trunks. It healed Yamcha's hole after being stabbed by Dr. Gero
32:15 Still one of my favorite DBCember bits. As much flak as GT gets, undoubtedly SS4 deserved this spot and giving the entire script to Kirran was a genius idea. One of the most unique moments from this tradition and really goes to show Kirran’s passion
If anything GT has undergone a bit of a resurgence in the last few years.
People hated it because of its inconsistencies, but when Super came along and basically said "hold my beer," it's being looked back on in a different light. By some, I mean. Not all.

@@Arbron Super has its own fair share of issues, especially production-wise, but it was at least building off of the ideas Toriyama himself introduced, whether from the recent movies or the Super manga. Whereas GT was just Toei throwing darts at a board and seeing what stuck, and a *lot* of it didn’t stick. Some did, like SSJ4, Baby Vegeta and the idea (not so much the execution) of the Shadow Dragons, but still not much.

Apparently, at that point in heroes, they originally wanted trunks to be able to transform into SSJ4, but they didn’t feel like that red fur worked well with trunks’ hair so they went with god instead.

The color contrast between the aura and hair on Sign and Mastered. On Sign, it looks awesome. On Mastered, it looks ugly as sin and makes Goku look like a big blob of white and silver.

I'd say Goku's Ultra Instinct is a technique adapted INTO a transformation. The angels don't appear to be transformed yet use the skill, but Goku gets shiny, then white hair. You know what I mean.
Also his mannerisms change compared to normal.
Even tho the Manga and Anime are two different things, Whis did say just that to Goku in the latest Arc.
I think it became a transformation for Goku because of the nature of the power. Autonomous Ultra Instinct is, as implied by Whis and Beerus, an ability meant for Gods. As such, when Goku uses the ability, it causes him to physically change so his body can support the power.
Coming back in 2022 to re-watch. Happy holidays 🎄🎉

Fun fact: In the manga Rose is implied to be his version of Super Saiyan Blue, but in the anime it's actually implied to be his version of normal Super Saiyan, but with power on par with blue because he has God Ki
I always thought it was Super Saiyan charged purely with God Ki, no normal ki.
The anime is very questionable since the way Rose happens means both statements of it being Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan Blue are technically right. Goku Black throughout the anime is in the mostly forgotten "Saiyan Beyond God" state that Goku and Vegeta achieved in Resurrection F (Where it's a formless state that allows you to reach the power level of Super Saiyan God without God Ki or transforming, it's particularly why Base Goku is able to outmatch Final Form Frieza despite his buff). This is why Black is so powerful and is able to match SSJ2 Goku DESPITE it being clarified that his power is lessened due to a lack of control over Goku's body, his base power was equivalent to a weakened Super Saiyan God.
So when Goku Black turns Rose, it's both normal Super Saiyan since that's reasonably all he could transform into up from there but also SSGSS since the requirement for that is turning Super Saiyan while in Saiyan Beyond God.
I mean I feel both are technically correct
But they mean the same thing tho. Super Saiyan god is quite literally super saiyan but with god ki, while super saiyan blue is Normal ssj+ssjg. Super Saiyan rose is the same thing, it's super saiyan god, with super saiyan. I assume the difference in color comes from the fact that he's a pure kai but idk

Ultra instinct was the first time In a long time that a transformation felt earned through foreshadowing, not since super saiyan, when I saw him standing on the cliff full form I was dumbfounded by how awesome and distinct he looked, he looked dangerous again and I loved it

I'm surprised that they have done top 12 music tracks yet. Or Openings/endings. Though I suppose that second one is tough since there's not enough to really make a list.
The biggest problem with a music list is the copyright issue... The big companies (unlike most individual creators) get access to UA-cam's internal content ID software, which can key off as little as 3-5 seconds of a song, and most companies are fairly agressive about filing copyright strikes. Even though a review/critique video is often- though not always!- covered under the Fair Use exemption of the DMCA, that does nothing to prevent a claim; it's a defense in a court of law, which can leave a video (or even an entire channel) floating in limbo if a company really wants to fight about a claim.
TL;DR: it's often not worth the hassle to do a song list unless you're willing to do it without using actual audio clips.

I’m surprised y’all didn’t make the connection between ssj3 and Kabuki theatre. There are characters who have long hair that are supposed to symbolize strength. And in Kabuki theatre in Japan, characters with long hair are really powerful. :)

I've always loved how often the oozaru roar is used throughout the series whenever goku would scream occasionally, always calling back to the OG dragon ball kaiju
It is worth mentioning that Ultra Instinct as a whole is _tremendously_ difficult to enter and maintain.
The mindset required is sometimes near-impossible to keep, and it's why Goku briefly enters UI during Broly, but is unable to maintain it and has to go with Blue instead.
On top of that, Mastered UI is a whole other ordeal to use - Goku notes that for the most part, he is unable to use this form at will. Hell, _Beerus_ can use UI and _still_ hasn't mastered it.
To answer the question: Steroids, or lack of to be more precise, is what is keeping me from looking like that

Given that we've just lived through a year-long filler episode and might be set for at least one more, it seems appropriate.
Goku: “ I’m not telling you how to be the legendary super sayian, but you’re not supposed to start all out.. you’re supposed to start small then work yo to it”
Broly: “Broly is starting small”
Goku: “ohhh... good for you. Holy crap”
Kiran really still makes me cry with that super saiyan 4 entry and it’s inner child and it’s so passionate.... damn... this is why I love TFS. Love you man!!!
I think this list was great overall. I’d argue for SSG being earned though. The movie’s main theme was about how he can’t earn it alone through simple training like all other forms. The challenge is Goku has to get out of his comfort zone and do something his pride wouldn’t agree with. All 3 of those movies-Battle of Gods, ROF, and Broly-and even the tournament of power, were about teamwork and how Goku could never hope to succeed without trust and help from others. The SSG ritual fits perfectly with that narrative. Kaiser even said that a downside to a transformation, in the case of SS3, was a positive. Why can’t it be the same for SSG?
Sidenote: I love how that whole SS4 rant from Kirran was just a ploy to convince Arc to put one in FighterZ and it worked.
The problem I think, and this is something Naruto does as well, is that it was introduced as something he couldn't achieve alone, which was a good moral (as you described). But then five minutes later, oh, now suddenly he can use its power passively despite it running out? And by next movie now he *can* do it alone? (And for some reason Vegeta can now do it too?)
It just feels like an artificial hurdle. If something is introduced as having a weakness, a few chapters/episodes later someone will probably find a way to ignore that weakness. This is okay if the story builds up to it (the Cell arc was *entirely* about this for the SSJ form), but if it suddenly happens 5 minutes later it just feels a bit like you've wasted your time.
Chrono Ryono I might not remember all of Naruto, but I can’t think of an example that meets criteria you said. Part 1 is very compact and linear, and doesn’t feature that much power creep in mere moments without explanation. Part 2 is similar up until the Five Kage Summit Arc.

Every time I hear Kirran screaming “OH MY GOD! THANK YOU!” I keep imagining him bowing over and over again, thanking the dragon god himself for his wish coming true.
I’m glad Kirran loves SS4 as much as I do, we even even had a similar experience discovering it (although the game was BT3 for me)

Exactly! I am the only ssj 4 stan at my school...most of my friends were ssj 3 fans as kids (because none of them saw gt because it didnt air in the 2010s) and now that I finally forced some of them to watch gt after super, they are still hung over mui (which tbf is pretty dope too).
@@deniskalev5805 for me mui is 2nd and ssj 4 is 1st...I know ssj is pretty high up for most but I dont have that much of a connect with it honestly...maybe because I saw the saiyan saga when I was just 5...so I didnt remember much of it until I later on saw the series all over after finishing dragon ball.
@@silver_carbide I can relate. I think childhood has an impact. I was maybe 3 or 4 when I switched channels over and saw ssj Goku take on Frieza. And my reaction was the same as Kirran's. I even asked Santa for games to learn about the anime during Christmas time. "What!? There's a Super Saiyan 2? Who's Cell? What's that pink blob thing? Super Saiyan 3?!?!".
OG Super saiyan was the hype for me to gain interest in the franchise. Seeing a hero who was bloodied and still moving forward was so inspirational. I'm ashamed to admit I enjoyed the dubbed speech even. Probably to similar shame GT fans feel.
@@armsofzeus So your story's very similar to Kirran! Unluckily I never played the games (I am not into games really) so I never knew forms existed before I saw them get broadcast. This was until ssj4 however...I once bought a sticker book that had dbgt stickers in it before finishing the series. I knew it existed but had never seen it. Not knowing better I thought the ssj 4 Goku and Baby Vegeta's second form must be new villains I hadnt seen yet...A school senior who was 7 years old back then explained it was "Goku GTen" and "Vegeta GTen"! 🤣🤣 I still remember confidently calling it "Goku GTen" in front of my cousins until they explained what it was and lent me their disks...🤣🤣🤣

But yeah. I relate to Kirran in his love for SSJ4. And I loved that form too to be honest. I even debated with a teacher it's not actually a SSJ form. It's an Oozaru form. He actually seemed to agree with it. I was a Junior in high school I think.
as a 10 year Martial Artist, "Ultra Instinct" is indeed the most relatable Transformation from Dragon Ball lore.

"Ultra Instinct" to me is, a return to the roots of the series, and a realization that yes... i made it... and now... SEE THE RESULTS OF MY TRAINING! xD
in a way I kinda get ya. Granted I wouldn't compare my kickboxing to whatever martial art you do because, let's be honest, kickboxing is literally just boxing..but with knee's and kicks...unless it's Muay thai cause ThAT is a whole other can of whoop ass. But even still I get you. The idea, heck the very existence of such a form in a way is relatable. The idea of your body moving without you needing to think, for you to just...do it. Every punch you've had to throw, every kick you've had to dodge, all of it...just...released....I get that.
My favorite description of Ultra Instinct is actually the exact description from the wiki article that covers Mushin from the aspect of the Swordsman (that I believe is a quote from Bruce Lee) it goes as follows,
"When the swordsman stands against his opponent, he is not to think of the opponent, nor of himself, nor of his enemy's sword movements. He just stands there with his sword which, forgetful of all technique, is ready only to follow the dictates of the subconscious. The man has effaced himself as the wielder of the sword. When he strikes, it is not the man but the sword in the hand of the man's subconscious that strikes."

I absolutely agree with Super Saiyan 4. It's the perfect blend of mixing the Ozaru and Super Saiyan forms and out of anything from GT to be re-used for Super, it should the this.
Don't forget the steroids. Skeletal structure, physics, and steroids.

What I love about this DBcember is thst, despite the crap that GT and Super get in the fandom. A GT transformation and Super transformation crack the top 5 and that makes me smile :)
I have a lot of problems with GT and super. UI and SS4 are fucking fantastic and for me right up next to the first super saiyan
Top 12 Filler episodes would actually be a really nice list. Filler is so often seen as something negative (for good reasons) but there are some genuinely enjoyable moments in filler sometimes.
Enjoyed fake Namek and the Invisible Spaceship parts, Gokus whole space training stuff
Silver hair is angelic. Its a transformation of the gods. Personally loved it.

Wanted to throw in a sidenote for Super Saiyan God. While the story of DragonBall has always been to achieve higher levels of strength and power through hard work and struggle, there are different kinds of struggles. In the ToP finale, we see Jiren make note of Universe 7’s strength: the power of trust.
I think this form is earned, because it makes a significant act of Goku within the series: he has to trust his friends and family to give him this form. Unlike a Spirit Bomb, where it’s a one shot using the energy of others, this form becomes a part of him, and only because he was willing to ask for, and accept, the trust of his friends and family to take on the form.
With the "less is more" refrain, Broly reminds me of a quote from _Frasier_ (when Frasier goes overboard trying to create a theme song):
Niles: "What happened to Less is More?"
Frasier: "But if Less is More, just think how much more More would be!"
If cell absorbed 18 first, would he have had a different semiperfect form?

I would guess no. Unless the components of the Cell needs are different between the two cyborgs, then there is no reason for him to change in a different way.
As far as I can tell it is his own form of evolution brought upon by adding new parts that is unaffected by the physical appearances of either cyborg.
Of course these are just my own thoughts on the matter.
Answer is a mixed bag, but leaning towards no. Cell would still look exactly as he would in his Second Form if he got 18 first. Supersonic Warriors and Raging Blast 1 and 2 point this out, although, Toriyama himself never gave any actual clarification over this.
Seeing as neither of Cell's transportations have any physical or personality traits to 17 and 18, I'd say no.

Factoring in only my own personal enjoyment, I find it hard to imaging any moment unseating Gohan’s SSJ2 from my #1 spot.
I'd like a top 12 Bulma outfits or top 12 outfits In general. Like Goku's best outfit probably his namek saga with the belt instead of the sash he wore afterwards

Personally, my favorite outfits are the Resurrection F/U6 Tournament outfits for Goku and Vegeta. They still match the style we're familiar with when it comes to Goku and Vegeta, but it nonetheless shows progression in not only their development but also the story.
......And then it goes right back to the standard outfits from Z because of nostalgia and status quo. What a waste.

I just love the fact that the female Broly counterpart from another universe is basically #Gay4GirlGoku from her universe, and the parallel in universe 7 is Goku and Broly are now a Fight Couple.
And Vegeta is gonna be a great dad to Bulla for most of the series.

@@kourtneyr.scruggs0988 Kale doesn't swing that way in the manga, Toei got a little too carried away with implications for the anime. In the manga, Kale is just a shy girl who looks up to Caulfia because Cauflia took her in, there isn't any romance involved.

Super Saiyan holds significance because it was about a heart previously full of love, compassion and joy getting conquered by rage, sorrow and vengeance. Super Saiyan 4 had Goku conquer the heart of his Oozaru form, full of rage, sorrow and vengeance, with love and compassion, for his family and his planet. It comes full circle, and it's wonderful

You guys completely hit the nail on the head regarding my feelings on Super Saiyan 2. When Gohan transformed against Cell the difference was huge. He bulked up, his hair went from spiking outwards to spiking upwards and his bangs became long, thin and stood more upright. Now that we have Super Saiyan 3 this looks more like a step towards the longer haired form. But from the Buu Saga onwards Super Saiyan 2 becomes an afterthought at best. Sure its mentioned in dialog and shown on screen but in terms of appearance it is near impossible to tell when someone has transformed to Super Saiyan 1 or 2. Yes I know with Goku they at least gave him a different fringe style between 1 and 2 with his two short side bangs and his one centred diagonal bang but Vegeta looks exactly the same in 1 and 2 as does Gohan and Trunks. Hell in the second Broly Movie Gohan is apparently Super Saiyan 2 against Broly but there's no lightening because they apparently forgot and yet we have no way of actually knowing because his adult Super Saiyan hair looks the same but shorter as his Super Saiyan 2 hair looked vs Cell. Just to rub salt in the wound when Super gave us Goku Vs Trunks they both supposedly transformed to Super Saiyan 2, where this fight was meant to show how far Trunks had come in power even though he could only train alone. But during the fight the animation team messed up the hair styles for both Trunks and Goku and even though they both had lightening their hairstyle was their Super Saiyan hairstyle not Super Saiyan 2.
Short version: I wish everyone's Super Saiyan 2 appearance was as strikingly different as Gohans initial transformation was.

The difficulty in telling the difference is also why it's still debated to this day which form Gohan was using against Dabura. Which is a shame, as SSJ2 is my favorite looking form *because* of the electricity.

I literally had the same experience with final bout, blew our minds back then. Also had it on a blank cd with sharpie and had no idea what the new forms were but loved them all anyways. So funny, exactly the same experience!
Super Saiyan 3’s intro, while I’ve never watched it as a kid or even now as an adult is still so iconic. Just an amazing score.

1:02:03 I think since the mastered UI should NOT have an aura, but give imperfect UI the aura. But if it must have an aura, it would have to be a softer version of that white/translucent aura they use on them flying in base form.
There is definitely something to be said about a form having no aura, I agree. You could argue that an aura is essentially wasted energy. Perfectly controlled, 100% efficient use of ki wouldn't produce an aura at all.
I love UI so much, the ultimate form of the gods, not letting thinking get in the way, and the look Goku gives, he literally looks down on Jiren when he first gets the complete version

In regards Lani's point about Cell's insectoid genetic origins. I like to imagine that Gero went through several ideas in regards implementing the harvested genetic material but ultimately needed a host body to absorb the DNA and grow with it into a fully realized being. I theorise that Gero took an ordinary insect egg (maybe a Cicada?) and genetically augmented it with the DNA of Frieza and Earth's mightiest warriors. The end result being Cell.
Though this does beg a question. Is there a lab out there somewhere with the failed experiments that would have been Cell had they been successful? Are there even cybernetic life forms that just never lived up to Gero's expectations? It's something we may never know but I'd personally love to see the manga explore the "Road to Perfection" as it were.

The super sayian 4 part is so amazingly detailed in why it's a good form dbz - even super the dragon Ball series has made alot of childhoods so exciting it's an amazing show that made me cry in happiness lots of times it felt like I was in the show experiencing and feeling what they felt, the DB series is the best anime series ever in my opinion.
Your guys' narration over the transformations were amazing gave me chills and made me swell with emotion god I love this franchise
