All the aesthetics and side features are not important, in exchange for the fact that it is encrypted and open source. This is wonderful and very powerful, especially since it provides free cloud storage for an unlimited number of passwords. Hats off to them.
Thanks for the video. As a long time Proton user, I haven’t used the Proton password manager yet, as I also pay for Bitwarden, which seems more advanced than this. For $10/year saving, I’m not sure it’s worth the risk of all eggs in one basket! I may export from Bitwarden and try it out.
Update: Since this was recorded Proton Pass now do have desktop apps for Windows, Apple Mac and Linux. They also have Passkeys and a built in authenticator which you just have to click on to autofill the authenticator code.
So far I haven't been able to set it up at all. It is amazing the clutter these tech companies fail to cover the most basic functions at all, like setting up the password manager to work at all.
I'm confused! Not computer savvy, sorry. So I set up my email and pass account. I entered a a name of a company that i normally shop at. Do I have to go and change my email address with the company to use my pass email instead of my actual email?
Jason I noticed in the create login example you created an Alias but not a login to a web site. On your example you needed to click create login from your note.
i like it, but you are dependent on proton once you use all the aliases. You can't switch or downgrade your account, because you only get 10 free aliases, if i understood that correctly.
It's good for personal use but not for a social media manager. For social media teams where multiple people need access to passwords and MFA, you are better off using something like 1Password with a shared vault or a solution like www.cerby.com/
Plans are getting expensive, I just installed Proton Pass, I already used the freed email, from long past. The password manager is very limited in terms of fields, compared to 1Password, and features, looks like a first issue. But I'm hopeful so I will do more checking. Honestly, lack of a desktop clients pretty much rules it out for me, although maybe having on Android might, possibly, be enough. It's possible I need to go to the paid level and eval for a year and make a significant assessment. Importing probably won't work, I have 2FA in my existing password manager - would that transfer ok.
Thanks for your Video. I just want to use Proton Pass on my Android Device (without a Computer). In the Proton Pass App there is no option to import my Passwords from Google PW Manager? 🤷🏻♂️

Yes I just got the paid version 2 days ago and went to each website that I must change email and used alias for all. I was shocked at how easy it was .
I am trialling Proton Pass paid version for 7 days. I chose it because I already had Proton Mail. I appreciated your video. I’m not impressed with the product so far. I want to be able to quickly update all my passwords, using the password generator. However it doesn’t seem to remember the password it generates. Went back to password history and there was nothing there. Super frustrating, but maybe it’s me? A tutorial on this would be helpful, or could you recommend another channel?
Thanks, Jason. That's the video I watched, but it didn't answer all my questions. I'll take this up with Proton, as I think they should be providing better user documentation and tutorial videos. @@teachmecyber
What about using Chrome password manager for convenience and site/app individual passwords + app/key authenticator for safety? Isnt that alternative safe enough? The convenience of P.W. in Chrome is so - well, convenient.
does Proton Pass have a number of different 'Password Categories & Sub Categories' ? (i.e. I want to 'file' my passwords into different buckets ... for instance - Financial - Bank Account, Financial - Cards, or Crypto - Exchanges, Crypto - Wallets) etc etc
Proton Pass has something similar called vaults where you can organize your passwords into those vaults I.e. work passwords, personal passwords etc. The free version has 2 vaults while the paid versions have 20 vaults
@@j.jsamra ok noted, but these vaults would not have the level of detail that say 1Pass has i.e. if you crank up a new SW card it has relevant fields related to capturing details of software etc etc
I've been a user of Proton products for a long time. Since beta! But, there's one thing that always freaks me out, and it's the topic of my 3rd ever UA-cam video. It's about the CIA and German intelligence OWNING a Swiss encryption company (ua-cam.com/video/Q0jvOR0NQ8A/v-deo.html) - really makes me wonder about who really owns what these days.
I know you might not be interested in other's feedback, but It's bloody horrible/useless. I signed up in May this year and paid for 2 years, but gave up on it after 2 months. Before that I was using Lastpass but I gave up on that because of the security breaches. Nordpass refused to sign me into many of the sites that it had stored, preferring to suggest a new password, so I had to search for the stored password and copy & paste. Such a waste of time.
I installed Proton Pass but I encountered a problem when it came to creating a secret code, which I found very confusing. Therefore, I decided to uninstall it.
There is no perfect password manager. I do a combo between more than one PM, instead. Yes, that is more attack vectors, but it's also three distinctly different master passwords, plus 2FA for each. Bottom line -- it works for me.
I don't know of any exchanges that will circumvent KYC laws. That ties your wallets to your cc/dc and all your personal info. It's why monero is not on most exchanges, and even the ones it is on, they still comply, so it kinda defeats the purpose. @@teachmecyber

While i think this is good, and i do trust proton, you'll still never beat the privacy of a selfhosted app. Having any kind of centralization is bad especially for a password manager, and i would never consider putting something so valuable into something i don't control.
Meh, the synchronization is too useful to go offline, and if I go online, I would trust Proton way more than myself to create a secure system, even if of course Proton is more likely to get attacked than me. It's obviously a trade-off between risk and convenience and currently the risk is so low with a properly used cloud password manager than I don't see the point of a self hosted PM except for knowledge and entertainment purpose
Andy Yen is a money hungry bozo. You will get spammed with stupid discount ads even if you're a member. Proton how about you stop spamming your members within the app with silly discount ads. Good products don't need to be spammed they grow by word of mouth and we have had enough....

Why is that?
