I love how the father of the one murdered girl told the friend who found their bodies to get the hell out of there in case the killer was still around. Even through the shock and horror he must have been feeling his first instinct was still to be a Dad and protect that girl. He sounds like he was a very caring parent/good person

Kylen's dad is one treasure of a person. Not only did he notice his daughter's suicidal tendencies and pulled her out of it, his first reaction to the girls' friend discovering bodies was to immediately tell her to get out of there. Who knows, maybe it saved her life. I hope the murderer of his daughter and her wife is going to be found.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. The only thing I may have personally done is snapped a few photographs of the crime scene that may reveal transient evidence (evidence that is temporary and may be dispersed by the environment). I agree safety is priority, but it takes a few seconds to take one or two photos. Even quick panic photos can reveal something. Still, nothing comes above the safety of the individual who is currently still breathing.

I gotta give Gabby’s father major props for calling out the media on their singular attention on his daughter’s disappearance. It’s understandable if a father is calling for all hands on deck to rescue his daughter, but for him to attempt to bring attention to others who are missing is very big of him. It’s a shame that the media didn’t follow through on it.

This is also a story of 2 great fathers. The first father who told the girl who found his daughter’s body to get out of there because the killer might still be around. Even immediately after hearing about his daughters death he still wanted to protect this girl and thought of her instead of most people who might understandably be a lot more selfish.
And the 2nd father, Gabby’s dad who criticized the media for only focusing on his daughters case when there are many more missing people out there that are just as important. Which a lot of people wouldn’t do or think to say. Both of them caring about other people and everyone else shows just how great and caring they are.

I hate to say this, but I worked with parolees as a therapist and consequently I worked with MANY police officers, and parole agents...What I discovered was that the police (no matter where) absolutely do nothing unless there is a lot of public attention. I believe that the police simply get overwhelmed with how many cases of abuse, and missing persons cases that they get. None-the-less we continue to hope that the police are on it, and doing their jobs...but again, I have seen little evidence of that in over 25 years experience...

after watching enough crime sci cases- no it’s not surprising. There’s stats to prove how pigs decide who is a perfect victim and worth investigating. Poc, lgbtq, different lifestyles.. it’s all too common how dehumanizing it is/ So much death is preventable.. there’s so many cases where young children and teen go missing, sometimes they immediately search but most of the time they wave it off and do absolutely nothing claiming the kid is a runway. If there’s anything about someone’s reputation, sadly cops will judge the victim more than the circumstances of their disappearance.

That is a good idea! Also, if someone grabs you, start screaming, kicking and scratching, and don't stop! If you're out in the wilderness, try kicking a kneecap sideways, if you connect good, they're going to have something else on their mind. I would also suggest kicking them while they're down. Too much? Oh, well, maybe you think so...but this person just ATTACKED me, and I'm not going to be nice about protecting myself. I actually did get grabbed by a guy one night, I elbowed him in the gut, stepped back, and let him see my knife. Pointing my knife at him, I said, "Leave." He did, backing up several steps before he turned and quickly walked away. I watched until he was out of sight, then went home and went to bed.
It took a few days to sink in, but I realized I had remained calm and in control during the entire incident, and if I'd had to use violence, I could have. I find those things comforting, as it shows I can remain calm, react appropriately and am ready to defend myself, and if required, with bodily injury to my attacker. I've always feared freezing in a dangerous situation, but I didn't.✌😸

Why did her ex call 3 friends to let them know that Lauren is missing, and then he calls the police? Wouldn't one call the police right away if they thought someone was missing? And they had an argument prior too, he just walks back into their van and suddenly she "vanishes"? That's very sus to me. Why didn't the police interview him? He seems to me like the most likely suspect. How come a gorgeous young woman like Lauren didn't get much coverage on her case especially with it having been around the same time as Gabbys dissappearance? I feel like maybe they didn't care as much with Lauren, they didn't do enough search effort, they didn't look into the suspects properly. They just did one sweep of everything and that's that. Kinda breaks my heart. No disrespect to Gabby, hope she is resting in peace, but Lauren deserved just as much media coverage as Gabby. Having looked into Lauren's case further myself, there are so many holes and unanswered questions involved in her case. Definitely a cover up of some sorts. All her family want is closure and justice and that's fair enough, they most likely would have got that if her case were spread around more. Hope they find the bastard that did this to her soon.
Hope she is singing and laughing in the heavens, Rest in peace Lauren Cho ❤️💛

The tricky part about finding bodies in wilderness areas is that it all depends on a lot of factors. The way the sun is hitting, how well you know the area, where the person died (i.e. near a tree or around an area that's cluttered and easily crossed over by the eye), the condition of the body. But surely there would have been carrion to draw scrutiny to the area, crows and vultures make a hell of a racket when they've descended on a meal. I would consider that she was murdered, her body hidden away somewhere, and the killer panics when media attention ticks up and they pull the body and stash it by the air bnb to make it look like maybe she wandered off and committed suicide. If they were looking for her in earnest the first few days then they surely would have found her by way of carrion birds. I guarantee that area is rife with crows and vultures.

I disagree with Adrian's comment about white victims getting more media coverage, in fact it's the exact opposite. The vast majority of the US media is "progressive," that is, it is extremely left wing. When a black person (say the latest school shooter last month) terrorizes a school with multiple rounds, it is kept out of the media, whereas when a white student does the same, it is in the media for weeks. When a black person (say the black man who executed a 5 year old white child while he was playing in his driveway in 2020) is arrested at the scene, and admits to what they have done, it is not in the media and if it is, it's buried quickly, with no mention of the race of the killer or victim. Where as if a white male executed a black 5 year old it would be a story on Yahoo for months (like Dylan Roof). If and black person (say the black man who recently punched a white woman in the face on the New York metro because she told him to "take a chill pill) is recorded committing the assault, it is still not in the media, and the race of the victim and attacker is never brought to light. In fact BLM is still lauded by the media as peaceful and just and career criminals like George Floyd, Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin are worshipped like martyrs.

The reason the Gabby Petito case got so much publicity and interest is because of the known activity of her boyfriend Brian Laundrie. It’s not because people thought Gabby was “more important” it’s because the facts of the case were playing out in real time with Brian returning home in her car without her, then on the run, then vanishing. It was a mystery still unfolding in the eyes of the media. That’s why. If any of these other cases had similar circumstances the same thing would have happened. The other equally tragic cases were static without any ongoing drama unfolding so they didn’t elicit the same fascination as Gabby’s case with her probable killer on the run in real time. The other cases had no leads or suspects. Nothing ongoing - nothing new to follow.

Poor Kylen's dad. He loses his son to a shooting and then his daughter. The man lost both his children, that is so sad, especially as he sounds like such an amazing person, upping sticks to help Kylen's mental state, being totally cool about her relationship with Crystal (when, even in these enlightened times a lot of parents aren't good with their child having a same sex relationship) and his first thought when her friend discovered the bodies was to warn her to get out of there in case the killer was still present somewhere.
On the face of it Kylen and Crystal seemed an unlikely pair but they found true love with each other and had many good, fun and happy years stolen from them by some shitbag that's still out there somewhere. Let's hope it's not for much longer.
As for Lauren, how could she have been less than 350 yards from the airBnB for all that time without somebody finding her. It does explani why she had no phone, money or water with her, she had clearly not intended to go very far and didn't. Maybe the autopsy will shed some light, maybe she tripped and fell, knocked herself out and died of exposure while unconscious. Hopefully her final moments weren't filled with fear whilst facing a killer but only time will tell.

That's a pretty quick reaction from going missing to calling friends and police. Especially if he had killed her only 1000 feet away, I doubt he'd call police so quickly.

As nice as it would be for everyone to get equal coverage, it's simply not physically possible. There were 540,000 people reported missing in 2020. If every one of them got equal coverage each person would only get 1 minute for their story and they would have to run stories 24/7 without pause or commercials. That leaves no time for real meaningful coverage anyways much less funding to be able to run stories.

I like how you made Bombay Beach look like a normal beach. It isn't. It's part of a lake, located in a BAD part of town and is littered and and disgusting. People who hang out at Bombay Beach are typically homeless individuals with drug habits (artists and other bohemian creatives). Those that don't stick around go to Slab City across the way. That's an even WORSE part of town.

Nothing can even survive in the water, the whole beach is littered with fish and animal bones, and that SMELL….
I also find it really funny how a large portion of the “bohemian” / “artsy” people have really normal, even privileged backgrounds. They’re choosing to live in squalor for the “aesthetic” or something. Other residents are genuinely struggling with addiction and homelessness, but a lot of these people could just call their parents and all of it would be fixed for them.

She wasn’t even an influencer really (she had less than 1000 followers before her death), but the way she was portrayed as one, certainly made it more popular because so many women aspire to be one, and it’s a catchy title. Add to that the police video where she fought with Brian and they were broken up, and the speed at which she was considered missing, it was perfect for TV. Millions of women see themselves in her. They projected their own abusive relationships onto that police video, so they flocked to Facebook and Reddit to speculate and invent scenarios. It was an absolute shitshow.

Thousands of missing persons cases are just like hers: well-documented with a very obvious suspect in hiding. No missing person case has gotten that much coverage in probably at least a decade. There have even been plenty of missing kids that never got even a fraction of the coverage despite that "tugging at the heartstrings" more. There's no real explanation for why her case got such ridiculous coverage (at least that I've been able to find that doesn't sound like a conspiracy theory). Very odd situation.

      @johnq.random1496 2 роки тому +15

II disagree with Adrian's comment about white victims getting more media coverage, in fact it's the exact opposite. If and black person (say the black man who recently punched a white woman in the face on the New York metro because she told him to "take a chill pill") is recorded committing the assault, it is still not in the media, and the race of the victim and attacker is never brought to light. In fact BLM is still lauded by the media as peaceful and just and career criminals like George Floyd, Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin are worshipped like martyrs.
