As a AP Sion connoisseur, I can recommend Riftmaker secound or third. It helps W shield be big and strong. Demolish is good too. When opponent is forced out of lane with that abusive poke it is free plating time.
As an AP SION enjoyer (1 mil mastery), I find that the most effective way to get oneshots on the champion is by buying mage items that have proc damage rather than buying the items that have the most AP. For example, instead of buying Deathcap, Stormsurge will tend to actually give a better burst combo. My typical full burst build is as follows. Horizon Focus -> Malignance -> Stormsurge -> Void Staff / Cryptbloom -> Cosmic Drive For boots you’ll likely want either Sorc shoes into squishies or Haste shoes into tanks. You can buy boots before finishing your first item if you desperately need the ms, like if you’re laning against someone who relies on skillshots heavily such as xerath or illaoi. If you’re into a bunch of health stackers and you need more %health damage, Liandry is a great option. If you aren’t laning against the health stacker, then you can build it third item making the build Horizon -> Malignance -> Liandry. If you are laning against the health stacker, Liandry -> Malignance -> Horizon works great as well. If opponets are building magic resist, you should build the %pen item 3rd instead of 4th. If you need more movement speed than what boots can provide, you can buy Cosmic Drive earlier. Just be aware that you lose a ton of burst since most of Cosmic’s power is in it’s haste and movement speed. AP SION spacing should be played like that of a ranged champion. You don’t have grasp procs to walk up for like tank, and you don’t have AD like lethality Sion does so your autos deal extremely little damage. If you have any questions lmk :3

I feel like Liandries into Rylias into Rift Maker could actually be decent. I know it was actually shortly meta to run demonic embrace first item on Sion.
Riftmaker is only really good when you're super late into the game to where you could sell boots for it to be your 6th item. This is much more effective on tank builds however since it allows Sion to be a drain tank with Unending Dispair, Spirit Visage, and Riftmaker.
Horizon focus can proc with every single one of Sion’s abilities except his R, and the %damage amp make him do more damage than buying smth like deathcap since his ratios are lacking

With Comet I always went Liandrys, into Banshee/zhonya into Ludens into Shadowflame, but I could see how Ludens first helps you farm.
