I'm a priest from uttrakhand who do Hindu rituals in different states , at one time I got a chance to do durga pooja at a Bengoli family's home in bengal, my priest friends were with me there , I'm Brahmin so I'm vegitarian , so first day They served fish pakora infront of us everyone shocked 😳, we thought they joking with us but no , they told us we consider fish as a vegitarian in Bengal , we were in awkward situation 😂Although we didn't eat that instead we asked them just give some fruits and we ate only fruits for 9 days straight 😂

I don't know about people saying that they are from bengal nd dont consider fish as veg...but just the thing that I still very vividly remember is once in about 1-2 nd grade we were taught this that fish is used in pooja in a lot of places nd is also considered veg at places. Specifically the fish from metha pani is veg nd one from salt water is non-veg. It was shocking to the point that I still remember it🙂
That is not soo much hard to find a vegetarian shop or restaurant in Bengal😊

Yes in Bengal people consider fish as vegetarian but mostly in between people who belongs to rural area or outskirts of Kolkata. People who think Kolkata is only Bengal or never been to many outskirts area commenting here that they are Bengali and they never heard of this.

WRONG INFORMATION. The shopkeeper was simply being sarcastic seeing these hordes of veg eaters asking about veg food at a decidedly chicken/fish food stall, but our content creator couldn't get it. We don't need the garb of vegetarianism to consume fish, we do it proudly and openly as non-veg food item.
Once, one of our most celebrated contemporary writers Sunil Ganguly spoke on what he considers to be vulgar - "asking for milk in a pub seems vulgar enough to me", he said. It feels asking "veg me kya hoga" at a predominantly non-veg roadside stall might have solicited similar reactions. 😅😅
