This is utterly embarrassing. The way this woman has decided to time her sudden case of hysterics right around such crucial events for the company and has the nerve to air alleged dirty laundry to the public in ploy to gain sympathy from the people...that's a classic case of deflecting. I'm not wanting to argue with the Korean public and at the end of the day, I'm just another foreigner looking in...but foreigner or not, I think we can all agree her bratty means of putting anyone's name in her mouth while she's vying for any type of position is inexcusable. BangPd and the global music market have pointed to Latin America and Africa as the new emerging music markets with an inevitable decline in Kpop. Now with Kakao + Billboard partnership and Kakao + SM merger for a future ipo the timing of this is very sus. Especially since part of the incriminating evidence against MHj eludes to the same global funds invested in Kakao. It might have proven easier trying to poach a successful group with global potential while attempting to expand into the western market than starting from scratch when you don’t already have that advantage. Placing Hybe at a financial disadvantage at the same time would have been icing on the cake. what I knew from the get-go as someone who has learned Korean (not saying that gives me absolute understanding though) is the comments to her conference. 'You got paid by Hybe didn't you?' LOL, I wish they knew I existed for that. When I watched the conference my constant thought was why is she talking about business, contract, and financial dealings like it is some sibling rivalry over a parent's inheritance. All the 'they postponed it', 'disagreed later on', etc. are all valid feelings any employee may have which is what she played with. But the opinion of one employee being prioritized over an entire conglomerate's dealings is a delusional expectation (ironically HYBE gave her so much beyond what most companies will ever offer- found that sus from HYBE's end too). I came in not expecting humanism from HYBE because it's a business working in a bigger uglier world of business. So I was actually waiting for her to bring up some legally valid complaint like maybe she signed dealing with HYBE but HYBE did not fulfill it. NOT- 'I signed that contract because I wanted to be a good new member of this conglomerate' but then wanted to complain and act as though she did not just sign that very contract voluntarily knowing what they were offering. The irony is the very mothers expecting some empathy for feelings inside a professional setting often raise their kids to aim for unempathetic competitive strategies against their kids' friends even though it is a non-professional setting.

She agreed whatever in the contract when joining Hybe: her salary, jobdesc, 20% share of the label, etc. But then she wants more, instead of negotiate with Hybe management, she tried to buy stocks in sneaky way. This is not Hybe being arrogant, but this is about an employee being dishonest, deceptive and trying to ruin the company.

Your videos have been very helpful. I think very balanced very fair. My support will always be with the Artists and hopefully due process will determine the truth. If MHJ is found guilty of any serious offence I am afraid this will make things even harder for women in the corporate world. I am Asian but live in the West and the press conference would not have garnered support in Western culture. Only lately did I learn of how Taylor Swift weaponized her fandom and put false accusations towards Scooter B. I had not been a fan of Scooter due to rumours and toxic femininity will not help women succeed in large corporations. Hybe is not innocent parts of her contract were not fair but if MHJ crossed the threshold from planning to execute a breach of contract Hybe will likely show no mercy in order to send a message to the other sublabels.

Here's my general conclusion upon trying to differentiate MHJ supporters and non supporters. Those who side with mhj are doing so solely for the sake of nj and simply does not like hybe. Happened to me too. No one believed me until they saw her acting nutty themselves but by that time i was done. They literally made us do a counseling together to try and see each others positive work relationships. What she said was so shady and my mgr said nothing. I knew she was upset that after she gained her position another one opened and they hired me directly without having to reinterview. When I left she left 1 month later and my colleagues all called me😂 she didn’t have me to fall back on. They tried to get me back but luckily I held firm, i actually loved my job but she made it unbearable.
I think people tend to forgot how this is affecting the girls as well. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. So far they have multiple fandoms coming for them, they constantly have this woman speaking on their behalf’s and their parents behalf’s without any proof of their opinions on the matter, they’re being pitted against other groups who they probably adore, and they’re being looked at as bullies to a group that literally just debuted this year. Thank you, finally, somebody said it. I don't understand why people suddenly forget who she is and what she does. She is a Creative Director who specializes in Brand Image. She's been doing it for decades and she is extremely good at it. If she can brand a group of teenagers as a representation of Y2K, then she can brand herself as a common worker who is abused by the company. In truth, she is the CEO of a rapidly growing label who got paid by the millions and has 18% shares of the company. She is richer than every artist under Hybe, including BTS members who built Hybe. Do people think she randomly picks the clothes from her wardrobe and goes with it? No, from the regular clothes to her choices to go up there alone with no makeup and bawling her eyes out, it's all part of the image that she wants to convey. Make no mistake, Hybe is no saint either, but in this case, it's clear that the Kind CEO is the one who wants to manipulate the public's opinion. If she is not guilty, then let them do their audit, attend the shareholders meeting, and prove you're innocent there. @@westieseoul I think the issue is that in SK there aren’t actually a lot a people who have been exposed to business practices in legal and HR terms that is pretty standard for MOST countries and businesses - they haven’t signed employee contracts which are pages long and include social media conduct, clauses and brand image clauses. I work in a high position now but even back in the day starting work for a billion dollar entertainment company(cinema) as a 16 yr old, my contract was pretty extensive as to what is proper business company conduct incl social media clauses etc. - I literally manned the candy bar and cleaned cinemas then. 😂

As someone from the UK I was really surprised to see people believing this performance. The victim dressing, fake tears, rambling on and on. It was very clear to see it was an act for sympathy. I personally do not think the tears were because she was upset but more because she had been caught out !

As Korean myself living abroad, I often frustrated how K public are so quick to judge, and quick to blame and attack someone over trivial things, without seeing the whole picture,, and how different mindset they have. MHJ knows exactly what she is doing, she has been planning, and calculating for a while. She knows how K public will empathize her, how easily be swayed by her emotions, be vulnerable to tears, and she knows how to distract and play public. Of course, some antis, and jealous haters might support her no matter what the truth is. little by little her drama came out,she used HYBE money to build her label,then later on she wants to leave and want take all the money,it’s all about money,but HYBE rejected it.
And she apparently demanded the right to end NJ's contracts with HYBE, in order to sever them from the company and establish them as her own personal group. It's reported that HYBE refused and the ADOR board of directors will continue to be the ones with the exclusive rights over the girls' contracts. Taking the group was supposed to be Plan B in the event of her coup failure, so she seems to know she's in for it despite the public sympathy. And I suspect the investigation into her 'foreign funding' sources will scorch that sympathy pretty solidly. Signs are pointing to Kakao, the Chinese giant, and Korean folks will *not* like that.
As an International fan we may not understand fully Korean culture, it does not mean we can see a press conference and see how unprofessional the person is. They way she under dressed, no make up and the swearing and tears does not inspire us to believe her. We see a manipulator and then we have to wonder if anything she is saying is true. Also as mothers many of us do not understand when she basically kept bringing New Jeans into the conversation. A natural instinct of a mother is to protect their children and not use them to benefit themselves. I understand the Korean point of view and some International fans that they have fallen for her act because Koreans have a reputation for siding with the underdog when it comes to corporates and also they have a very strong cancel culture prior to the evidence being out. Of course New Jeans fans are also siding with her because they are worried what will happen to New Jeans just as BTS fans are majority are supporting Hybe in case it effects BTS. I think because of the ridiculous rumours and horrible accusations that have since come around they have not helped her case as she is actually doing what she had planned to do!
Thanks for being polite and careful about Korean culture , etc but there was nothing she displayed that related to Korean culture at all. She’s just simply a nightmare and I am so embarrassed as a woman, too. And people who fell for her are NOT because of Korean culture tendency. To me, those are either very weak, ignorant people or the enemies who are trying to take HYBE/Bang Pd down. A lot of other Koreans find them very weird and non sensical, hard to believe and almost pathetic. Min Hee-jin is good at what she does. She is one of the best brand/pr women in the business. She knows the culture of her people best and with that she was able to easily pull off this con. As for the difference of opinion between international fans and the Korean public I'm not surprised. I have listened to at least, at minimum, 10 korean international kpop fans, korean/american lawyers and korean/american business professionals, all podcasters or youtubers, who speak fluent korean, who didn't need translation-- and everyone that I've watched sees this the same as nearly all foreign fans. It's not a translation thing, no "foreigner" who did even a tiny bit of research lost what happened to translation. Online, I see very childish arguments, based almost entirely on truly incredulous theories of business supporting MHJ. Immediately knew these people were forcing themselves not to see common sense because they were blinded by emotions, or maybe too ignorant to comprehend business. But i think the emotion is not pity towards MHJ, it's hate to HYBE. I think if this story broke with SM, YG, and JYP it wouldn't headline for more than an hour, not days. Everyone, even korean stans, would see it as it is-- a greedy narcissists failed grab for power. Nobody internationally would have even heard of it. End of story, expect HYBE is the great "evil". How many times did I see the Knetizens were bad at judging people? From Kim Ji Soo's (the actor) bullying allegations to AOA Jimin vs Mina incident. They were all wrong. They all jumped into the "victim's" side with no regard to logic and facts. Then months later, the accused was proven innocent but it's too late, they already ruined their careers. I guess Koreans are too emotional people, I don't blame them but it shouldn't be an excuse to completely turn off their critical thinking. Their controversies involved life and careers that some of these celebrities commit the unthinkable because the public scrutiny was too mucb to bear for them.
I actually think that foreigners are likely to be more objective in this situation because we are not emotionally tied to any of those cultural nuances that most Koreans wouldn’t be able to separate themselves from and Koreans are going to have prejudice subconsciously because of that (even if they don’t admit it) whereas we are actually able to view the situation based on the facts available without it being dressed up with ‘fluff’.
I think that's fairly accurate. She's very obviously trying to play on peoples' emotions, and that makes it quite difficult to be objective about the matter. ARMY is protective of BTS and thoroughly disapproves from that side of things, but a lot of ARMYs are just not invested emotionally in HYBE. So they are able to recognize standard corporate behavior and standard legal tactics. It would be different if it was Big Hit that was under fire; ARMYs are a lot more attached to the originating company than to the umbrella company. And then a lot of us Westerners have been coping with malignant narcissists for quite some time now, and have become very good at recognizing those behaviors.
I am from US. I don't give a fuck about either the CEOs. I find the way this is being handled to be an embarrassment on the behalf of the legal professional in Korea.. I like both NewJeans and BTS. I would side with MHJ but neither party is 100% innocent.

Sometimes I wonder if, as humans, the frustration of a mediocre life leads us to side with people who deceive and betray successful people. It is not for nothing that envy is a capital sin and the mother of all vices.
If you looked at all scandals throughout the years you would relaize they always side with the emotional side who plays selfpity the most. This thinking in Korea seems to also show up in the bandwagon assassination mindset when it comes to jumping to conclusions and condemnation of celebrities. My take as someone with two visual degrees; she might picked the cap and sweater's colour very deliberately. I really felt like I have been transported to a scene out of the "Emperor's New Clothes" or something, watching this all unfold!!! 😲😵🤯 As a person of Korean descent (that still considers themselves pretty Koreanized, culturally speaking, but live overseas), and as a woman that spent many years in the corporate business world... what I knew from the get-go as someone who has learned Korean (not saying that gives me absolute understanding though) is the comments to her conference. 'You got paid by Hybe didn't you?' LOL, I wish they knew I existed for that. When I watched the conference my constant thought was why is she talking about business, contract, and financial dealings like it is some sibling rivalry over a parent's inheritance. All the 'they postponed it', 'disagreed later on', etc. are all valid feelings any employee may have which is what she played with. But the opinion of one employee being prioritized over an entire conglomerate's dealings is a delusional expectation (ironically HYBE gave her so much beyond what most companies will ever offer- found that sus from HYBE's end too). I came in not expecting humanism from HYBE because it's a business working in a bigger uglier world of business. So I was actually waiting for her to bring up some legally valid complaint like maybe she signed dealing with HYBE but HYBE did not fulfill it. NOT- 'I signed that contract because I wanted to be a good new member of this conglomerate' but then wanted to complain and act as though she did not just sign that very contract voluntarily knowing what they were offering. The irony is the very mothers expecting some empathy for feelings inside a professional setting often raise their kids to aim for unempathetic competitive strategies against their kids' friends even though it is a non-professional setting.

If MHJ is found guilty of any serious offence I am afraid this will make things even harder for women in the corporate world. I am Asian but live in the West and the press conference would not have garnered support in Western culture. Only lately did I learn of how Taylor Swift weaponized her fandom and put false accusations towards Scooter B. I had not been a fan of Scooter due to rumours and toxic femininity will not help women succeed in large corporations. Happened to me too. No one believed me until they saw her acting nutty themselves but by that time i was done. They literally made us do a counseling together to try and see each others positive work relationships. What she said was so shady and my mgr said nothing. I knew she was upset that after she gained her position another one opened and they hired me directly without having to reinterview. When I left she left 1 month later and my colleagues all called me😂 she didn’t have me to fall back on. They tried to get me back but luckily I held firm, i actually loved my job but she made it unbearable.
I think people tend to forgot how this is affecting the girls as well. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. So far they have multiple fandoms coming for them, they constantly have this woman speaking on their behalf’s and their parents behalf’s without any proof of their opinions on the matter, they’re being pitted against other groups who they probably adore, and they’re being looked at as bullies to a group that literally just debuted this year. She's been doing it for decades and she is extremely good at it. If she can brand a group of teenagers as a representation of Y2K, then she can brand herself as a common worker who is abused by the company. In truth, she is the CEO of a rapidly growing label who got paid by the millions and has 18% shares of the company. She is richer than every artist under Hybe, including BTS members who built Hybe.

I work in a high position now but even back in the day starting work for a billion dollar entertainment company(cinema) as a 16 yr old, my contract was pretty extensive as to what is proper business company conduct incl social media clauses etc. - I literally manned the candy bar and cleaned cinemas then. 😂

As someone from the UK I was really surprised to see people believing this performance. The victim dressing, fake tears, rambling on and on. It was very clear to see it was an act for sympathy. I personally do not think the tears were because she was upset but more because she had been caught out !

As an International fan we may not understand fully Korean culture, it does not mean we can see a press conference and see how unprofessional the person is. They way she under dressed, no make up and the swearing and tears does not inspire us to believe her. We see a manipulator and then we have to wonder if anything she is saying is true. Also as mothers many of us do not understand when she basically kept bringing New Jeans into the conversation. A natural instinct of a mother is to protect their children and not use them to benefit themselves. Thanks for being polite and careful about Korean culture , etc but there was nothing she displayed that related to Korean culture at all. Min Hee-jin is good at what she does. She is one of the best brand/pr women in the business. She knows the culture of her people best and with that she was able to easily pull off this con. I have listened to at least, at minimum, 10 korean international kpop fans, korean/american lawyers and korean/american business professionals, all podcasters or youtubers, who speak fluent korean, who didn't need translation-- and everyone that I've watched sees this the same as nearly all foreign fans.
It's not a translation thing, no "foreigner" who did even a tiny bit of research lost what happened to translation.
Online, I see very childish arguments, based almost entirely on truly incredulous theories of business supporting MHJ. Immediately knew these people were forcing themselves not to see common sense because they were blinded by emotions, or maybe too ignorant to comprehend business.

How many times did I see the Knetizens were bad at judging people? From Kim Ji Soo's (the actor) bullying allegations to AOA Jimin vs Mina incident. They were all wrong. They all jumped into the "victim's" side with no regard to logic and facts. Then months later, the accused was proven innocent but it's too late, they already ruined their careers. I guess Koreans are too emotional people, I don't blame them but it shouldn't be an excuse to completely turn off their critical thinking. Their controversies involved life and careers that some of these celebrities commit the unthinkable because the public scrutiny was too mucb to bear for them.
I actually think that foreigners are likely to be more objective in this situation because we are not emotionally tied to any of those cultural nuances that most Koreans wouldn’t be able to separate themselves from and Koreans are going to have prejudice subconsciously because of that (even if they don’t admit it) whereas we are actually able to view the situation based on the facts available without it being dressed up with ‘fluff’.
I think that's fairly accurate. She's very obviously trying to play on peoples' emotions, and that makes it quite difficult to be objective about the matter. ARMY is protective of BTS and thoroughly disapproves from that side of things, but a lot of ARMYs are just not invested emotionally in HYBE. So they are able to recognize standard corporate behavior and standard legal tactics. It would be different if it was Big Hit that was under fire; ARMYs are a lot more attached to the originating company than to the umbrella company.
And then a lot of us Westerners have been coping with malignant narcissists for quite some time now, and have become very good at recognizing those behaviors.

Finally someone said this, this woman is playing the victim role, it's driving me crazy to see people defending her!!
If you looked at all scandals throughout the years you would relaize they always side with the emotional side who plays selfpity the most. They always side with the person they see themselves in, how they dream to be, not the truth.
This is why many "bullying scandals" are fake yet career ending (for women only) They always dream of getting back at that 1 situation, yet continue to be the person they resent.
If I got anything from being familiar with the k-industry
1- Their opinions are useless inaccurate
2- never trust the media. They can make the best person the worst or hide facts to do the opposite
3- if someone uses selfpity to resonate with the public they are most likely lying and manipulative
I was shocked when they couldn’t see past the emotional manipulation when it’s so blatantly obvious.
This thinking in Korea seems to also show up in the bandwagon assassination mindset when it comes to jumping to conclusions and condemnation of celebrities. That pride comes up in their lack of remorse when it becomes clear that the accusations are false, they will demand apologies from them but offer none once that person is cleared. That's the part I hate. It's kinda like the first horse out the gate is the one they're riding even when its running straight towards a cliff.
I can't believe they tried to portray her as working class fighting against the powerful.
If she is working class, then their 70% citizens are below poverty
My take as someone with two visual degrees; she might picked the cap and sweater's colour very deliberately. Both are quite muted and cool colour, making people with her skin tone looks sicker and sadder. And it looks cheap, because of the pair being mismatched (no colour harmony) as well. So you saying that she "dressed like a hobo" is apt.
Her outfit is what made me feel like she was maniulating me. And the crying added to that believe in me.
This reminds me of kpop survival shows that are rigged and everyone in korea is shocked but everyone in america is like..ofcourse its rigged.

As a person of Korean descent (that still considers themselves pretty Koreanized, culturally speaking, but live overseas), and as a woman that spent many years in the corporate business world... I was not only shocked & revolted by that whole dumpster-fire of a press conference, but furious with her for literally setting back the image and public perception of not only Korean women, but more specifically, Korean women in the business world, by at least 75 years!!! It was a complete and total utter embarrassment. 😳😓
@seoulitetv - Seriously, thanks so much for doing a great commentary and giving the first decent take on this specific aspect of the situation, because despite knowing about a lot of the nuances for the reasoning that some K-netz are I guess trying to put forth, I've been struggling to properly communicate this to foreigners, when even I think this whole thing is CRAZY and she's just friggin' unhinged & has major issues (for a whole list of reasons before this latest scandal even erupted...).

I think it's despicable that a woman who hasn't been at Hybe that long & was in charge of only New Jeans can make more money than BTS who built that company. She didn't even produce, write lyrics, or create music. She simply created an image for branding purposes. Worse, she claims those styles were uniquely her creation & how dare any other group copy them --- when all along she simply ripped off the styles of western female hip hop artists of the 1990s & 2000s. What a joke!
