I say this all the time, but I have no clue how this wasn't on th'tube already. Charred Remains is an absolutely legendary document of early DIY hardcore in North America. Tracks were recorded between 1980-82, and it was released on home-dubbed cassettes in 1982 by Noise Magazine (and later Version Sound, and also bootlegged into oblivion). The comp, inspired by Crass Records' Bullshit Detector and Alternative Tentacles Let Them Eat Jellybeans, features the first recorded appearances of some of the most crucial 80s ushc bands, including the inimitable Die Kreuzen and Void, alongside plenty of other important names you may or may not recognize. It in turn inspired other important comps, including Meathouse 1, Barefoot And Pregnant, and The Master Tape. Personally, I believe compilations are one of the most important and overlooked pieces of DIY/underground music. Without them, countless artists would have gone ignored and been lost to history, and I offer this comp as supporting evidence.
This is a rip of the Radio Raheem reissue from 2014, which was remastered using the original reels. No walls of tape hiss, just pure hardcore bliss. The art used is a scan of the booklet, which is a reproduction (with some additional material) of the original that came with the initial run put out by Noise Magazine. Enjoy it, you goons.

One of the best cassette comps I wore out. Life affirming soundtrack. Still holds up today and just as vibrant.

I submitted 5051 and District Tradition to this compilation project, as I was working with the bands. My dad had a high speed cassette duplicator (I don't know why). I'd go to his office before shows and make copies of this cassette, duplicate the booklet, then sell them at shows. Only did this twice. One time I was so drunk (at 16 or 17) that people just ripped me off. I didn't care as for some reason I still made money. Side note: District Tradition starts at 47:14, not 44:11.
