The architecture at the old Marshall Field And Company Building is impressive! Most of us wouldn't be able to see all the details irl because hardly noone looks up and sees the details. Most of us just look at and look for what we want to buy
I know. I was the only one looking around. Its good to pause and appreciate it. In the 70's as a little kid, I remembered how cool the layout is especially the interior of northwest atrium of Marshall Field. I went as high as I can go and remembered looking down seeing my mom shopping on the 1st floor and yelling out trying to get her attention. Lol. It's a mammoth building. Marshal Fields wasn't able to fill the top floors then. There was always empty space and offices up there. At time-12:31 in the video, you'll hear me say "man!" as I looked up in awww! All the architecture gives me flash back when I first visited Marshall Field as a kid as if time stood still. Im remember the railings too. That was pretty damn cool!!!
Marshall Fields will always be Chicago! I used to work in the Wrigley Building & walk from the Congress L train to & from Fields. After work I’d go into the Bargain basement of Fields & do a lot of shopping there then catch the A train to DesPlains, the end of the line. Miss the good old days of Marshall Fields & Chicago.
I USE TO LOVE SHOPPING AT FIELDS ON STATE ST, AND IN THE WATER TOWER PLACE, ESPECIALLY ON THE 13HR SALE AND HAVING THEIR SHOPPING BAGS, I ALSO EVEN HAD A MARSHALL FIELDS CREDIT CARD, YEARS AGO, I LIKE MACYS I DO, I SHOP THERE AT TIMES BUT MARSHALL FIELDS WILL ALWAYS ME THE CITY AND TOWN OF CHICAGO IL. AND AGAIN WHO NOS FIELDS MAY ONE DAY, OPEN ITS NAME AND DOORS AGAIN YOU NEVER NO.
I remember working at Marshall’s in the 80’s around the holiday it was magical the stores were crowded everyday leading up to Christmas, the store windows were amazing because they had a visual merchandising department that created and made things on site. Today it’s basically dry.
I Use to work for Marshall Fields back in 1993 it wasn't easy to get Hired back thin, at Marshall Fields, but I keep trying until they finally hired me, although it wasn't pleasant or right and very wrong the way and how they fired me, I was very hurt Angry and disappointed that they fired me, and how they fired me, and I never forgave them for it, because I always Respected admired looked up to Marshall Fields as this Historic Land mart Dept Store that everyone loved to come to when they came to Chicago everybody wanted to go to Marshall Fields and Shop, and see the Wall Nut room I loved Marshall Fields Store I loved shopping there, I loved saying I worked there, but I was hurt sad and very disappointed for what they did to me, and my Career, I just couldn't believe they could do such a thing to me, or anyone especially a person with a disability, but I was very shocked that this historic land mart that I once admire decided to be From Mashall fields, and become Macy's I was very shocked at this news, it was all over the news, I had heard that Macy's was coming to Chicago and don't get me wrong I like Macy's I do, I really do, but I thought they were going to come here on there on Location not take over Marshall Fields, I wasn't prepared for that, at all yes I like Macy's I have shoped at Macy's and I probably will shop at Macy's again, I love their large shopping bags, but there will never ever be a Marshall Fields, to me, Macy's will always be New York City, and Marshall Fields will always be Chicago, always! it was good that Macy's came to Chicago but it was not good that they took over Marshall Fields, it was not a good thing to me, It's like saying that Fields and Macy's cant Operate in the same City, and i say that's not true cause for years there was a Marshall Fields and there was a Carson PERRIE Scott for years on state St Operated they both managed to stay in business for many years
