Great footage of those currawongs. You normally don't get a good look at them like that.

I've always thought they looked shifty here, like they were somewhere they knew they shouldn't be. It turns out this was the only time I've ever seen them at the birdbath or within the boundary of our local magpie couple's territory.
They seem to live in the forested hills to the north-west of me. They're beautiful alright and I'd like to see them more often but that's not likely to happen.
      Cheers.

I've gone right back to your first video Murray and I actually get to see you and not just your feet. I wonder what made you start on this - but anyway I'm glad you did, it's a wonderful pastime.

It all started when I it suddenly struck me one day that I have a pretty amazing back yard. Stuff that I see almost every day - wallabies, roos, the variety of birds, reptiles - most people don't get that.
And I do like gardening and plants.
So after I thought about it for a while I thought I'd look at sharing some of the stuff I see and get up to. I bought a GoPro and a flimsy tripod (currently on permanent duty on the birdbath) and it evolved from there.

@@mybackyard36 It looks a lot of work but it's enjoyable work outdoors - and the wildlife there is pretty remarkable. I often think I'm lucky here to have a few mobs of 'roos around the place and the gum tree outside my kitchen window sometimes has a koala nestled in one of the branches, always a nice thing to see - and there's the resident goanna too.
I was looking this morning at a channel out of Victoria - someone living in a regional area not in Melbourne - you can see how the housing estates are encroaching on the bushland and there are now 'roos hanging around the streets and front lawns. It's pretty devastating for the wildlife but the overseas viewers were saying how lovely it was and I guess to them it must look pretty exotic.
Anyway, nice to go back to the beginning - I seem to be doing things backwards!

@@suzanne5781 The order doesn't matter. By the way, since that first birdbath video I've only ever caught Currawongs drinking once. That's in nearly two years. They are NOT allowed here, and they know it. Poor sods could do with a birdbath of their own but it'd have to be up in the state forest somewhere inside their territory.
I enjoy "outside work" more than inside but there's a balance that needs to be addressed and I can usually time things to avoid the hottest parts of the day outside. Lots to do and lots of plans. Hopefully it'll all get done eventually, provided I stop making new plans...😁

The young maggies stay with their parents for a long time.

You could try just putting a narrow stone in the water, one that will just protrude through the surface of the water, so the smaller birds can stand in it do drink, 😁

Ah yes. That has been suggested before. I glued a stick to the side of the birdbath for small birds. But when the magpies jump right in to the center, duck down and splash like crazy, I think something like a rock would get in their way.
I put this here for the magpies and was amazed by how many other species loved and used it. And while I'll consider a second more shallow birdbath at some stage for smaller birds, this is for the magpies and everything else will just have to deal with any issues that arise.
As it stands it can fit two pretty-much full sized magpies at once:

I have a slightly bigger bird bath with a rock/stone to one side. The Butcher birds liked the idea. @@mybackyard36

Even the Currawongs struggled a little on the edge of the bird bath. Thanks, great video, great intro. What state are you located? NSW I think. (More Currawongs... I am in QLD and we do get the occasional Currawong.)
