    I have Laserjet M1522NF that was stalling during initialization. Thankfully I found this video and I decided to give it a go. It WORKED!!!! Thanks so much Andycivil for posting this.
    A couple additional comments- when I first put the board back in and powered the printer up, it got past the original initialization hangup but ended up with a different error message. It said "49 error - turn off then on". I power cycled a couple times but could not get past this. I decided to remove the cover once again and take a look. I found the culprit. The ribbon cable at the bottom of the pc board (shown at 1:30 in the video) had partially dislodged from the connector in the neighboring board below. I re-seated it into its connector and the printer now works again!! My suggestion is that you might want to go ahead and power the printer back up BEFORE reinstalling the plastic cover. This way if you have to make any changes, as I did, you don't have to tear it all apart again! Once you verify the fix, then you can replace the cover once and for all.

    Excellent job with the voice over throughout the video. Clear and concise instructions. This little trick will take care of my printer issues until I find a new multi function printer. Thank you very much!

    I have just done it... it works like a charm.... I removed the battery from the board, heat up the oven at 150 C degree and put it in at a class plate.. waitied for about 15 minutes.... got it out, soldered the battery back.
    wonderful. It copies, prints and scans like new
    Thanks for your useful clip

    I really like the step by step approach in your video. I would pause the video and complete a step and made a successful repair on our old, old printer. (4 yrs after you posted your video.) Like removing the battery and replacing it in the same polarity. A big THANKS to you!

    Thank you so much for this video! We opened up the printer, removed the board, removed the battery, baked it at exactly 350 F for exactly 8 mins, cool down for 30 mins, put the battery back, put the board back, and plugged everything back in. OMG, it printed! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

      I'm glad it worked for you! Amazingly, I have personally had another HP printer with exactly the same problem - and solution - even though it's a different model (Deskjet 9800). Although in this case the heat melted a plastic switch that told the electronics when the lid was open. But the point is, if one person (me) can have two out of three printers fail in this way, how many times is this happening around the world???

    My mf2727 printer showed similar phenomena: at times I found it stuck in the "Initialization" phase, which only a power-cycle would cure.
    Then it simply refused to turn on.
    Just baked the motherboard and so far - so good.
    And just in case - I also replaced one 47uF 35V inside the power supply (on the hot side) that measured a little suspicious on my ESR meter.

    Thank you Sir.
    I've got an old printer working once again.
    It was locking up at start up and/or turning itself off from time to time.
    It's been working for a day without problems.
    Now it still has the odd Scanner 8 error sometimes, but I don't plan to use the scanner on it so I can live with this one.

    My printer was behaving exactly the same as yours; Turning itself off, getting stuck and failing to initialize. Thank you for the tip on how to repair. It now works perfectly! I think you got it right about the crappy solder joints. I used a variation on your method. I used a hot air rework gun which is attached to my solder station. I set the temperature to 400F and applied the hot air to all solder joints on both sides of the board. There is no need to remove the battery if you do it this way. Just keep prolonged direct heat away from it. Many thanks!

    the same problem occurred on my m2727nf printer, so I did as in the video, but when I finished baking, the capacitor started to smoke and some chip fell off. when I put new capacitors and put that chip back and soldered everything as it was, the printer turns on and starts but the screen doesn't work. I moved the cable from the screen and when I almost pulled it all the way out it turned on the screen light and all the other lights. when you approach this strip that goes from the screen like some kind of cable, it only then shows a light on the screen, but no letters come out. can someone help me

    Success story today!
    I baked that motherboard yesterday at maybe 200C (it was an old oven so it might have been even hotter). I was too lazy to remove the battery and after 7 minutes of baking the battery actually split apart. I kept it in the oven for a full 8 minutes (on baking paper). I also didn't bother to protect the ethernet port (we use the USB port).
    Once the board cooled, I clipped the battery pieces (nodes) off and reinstalled the board in the printer. I didn't even bother screwing it in, I was sure this was a wasted effort...
    BUT it initialized successfully!!! I did a test-print with MS Word and it worked flawlessly (without a battery!)
    Maybe the battery is only needed if you print using the ethernet port - the battery might only be responsible for saving the networking settings. I use USB so I didn't have to set up the ethernet.

    • @andycivil
      @andycivil  4 роки тому

      Yes, it only occurred to me later that my printer didn't seem to have forgotten anything despite me removing and reattaching the battery! So, what's it for? I have no idea. These days, settings can be saved easily in non-volatile memory, so the only reason you'd need a backup battery would be to keep the clock running.

    I've tried the hair dryer method 3x - no success. Finally I baked it 9 mins, 200°C on the grille on baking paper with the electronic parts facing up. It made the kitchen smelling like a car factory but at the end the printer works now perfectly again. BTW I left the battery on the panel. Nothing has happened.

    • @andycivil
      @andycivil  4 роки тому

      Wooo-that's hot, man! I'm glad it worked for you. I guess you were "it works or I dump it" at that point. The battery is a curiosity; I think perhaps all it does is keep a clock running if the power's off, so even if you toasted it, the printer may work fine. Not sure on that one.

  • @victorg7036

    I lost my battery is. Is it still OK to reinstall the board in my printer with out it?

    • @andycivil
      @andycivil  4 роки тому

      That's a very good question! You know, it only occurred to me months after making this video, that I had disconnected the battery, hence losing whatever it was backing up, and yet it worked perfectly. Also, I did the same procedure on a different HP printer (shame on you, HP) and it didn't even /have/ a battery. I would assume that it's there so that the clock keeps time when you turn it off - and probably little else! Bottom line, I'm pretty sure it won't do it any harm to run without the battery, but the clock might need resetting every time you turn it on (if you care).

    How come when I install the same board on 2 other M2727nf printers, they work just fine without this oven process. But same board won't work on a particular printer?

    • @andycivil
      @andycivil  6 років тому

      Yes, it can be frustrating when 'board swapping' turns up a combination that won't work, I sympathise but I have no solution. I would say that if a board works on *any* printer reliably, then it probably doesn't need this reflow process. Strange board/unit problems probably arise from small timing or voltage differences, or small functional changes due to version updates.

    • @andycivil

      That is not a normal error code for a m1005 printer. However, other people have seen this code. It is most likely that the firmware has crashed. If you can update the firmware, this might fix it, but if you can't even do that, then you may be out of luck.
