@@DaleG281 well it should have been 3 penalties in total and the blatant fouls on Saka that led to France scoring, just watch the game back the amount of French fouls that should have resulted in yellow cards or free kicks that were ignored was embarrassing. It really is. England only played against opponents that they should beat in the past. No real tests. Yet it gave English media and a lot of Englishmen the false sense of thinking that they were ready for the big names.

Going into this World Cup, France was considered a favourite, but people forget this is a France side that's quite depleted in terms of usual 1st team starters, especially in the Midfield, and England still couldn't get past them; they don't have Kante, Pogba, Nkunku, Kimpembe, and L. Hernandez later on, all general 1st team starters for the French National side, this is a freaking French side that's had to use freaking Rabiot as the main man in the CM position, and England still couldn't get past them.
France play within themselves and raise there level when needed. Kante and Pogba not playing has helped them….the normal predictability of defending champions and being forced to bring on younger midfielders is a blessing in disguise.

Whilst the referee was inconsistent, I think England spent 75% match looking for free kicks and penalties. Wave their arms and getting in the face of the referee. Kane often slows up over the ball to make it look like the defender clattered into him. It frustrated the nutty referee even further and cost the game imo.
The other 25% game England spent bending the knee. And that’s why Kane hit it over the bar.
What a load of nonsense, France we’re short of five first team players and still outplayed a fully fit England team, they scored two goals from play while England had to depend on penalties.
What game were you watching John Harvie? 'Fully outplayed' 😂 England were the better team and dominant at times. The first France goal shouldn't have even stood as Saka was fouled on the build up. Not to mention on the build up the french players were fouling England left right and centre but the ref refused to give everything. England should've had a pen in the first half, as a picture does show Kane was fouled INSIDE the box. Not to mention Maguire's header, Bellinghams volley, Saka's open goal miss from the Shaw cross. France certainly didn't dominant when even Deschamps came out after the match and said 'We got a bit lucky'.

Agreed, should have brought on Trent. Most creative crosser of the ball probably in the world, can see passes no one else can. But Gareth would have never, he is too scared to unleash him. He would have brought him on and made him sit back, saw it against Wales. Should have brought on Maddison too.
Again England come up against tough world class opposition and get dumped out..France were far from the best but they scored twice in open play, England relied on pens. I don't want to jump on the let's bash Gareth Southgate bandwagon but his choice and timing of substitutions is baffling. The second half we had France on there toes yet we didn't seem to be able to take advantage in the final 3rd.. absolutely gutted 😞
England are overhyped. I dont say that with disrespect or as a troll. Nobody good is frightened of England. England lacks alot of archetypes to help the team be GENUINELY good and formidable. 1) Terrible manager, not bad or average but terrible. 2) You do have a lethal finisher🔥 but he tends to drop deep and playmake. 3) You lack a technical passing midfielder that can control a game. Eg. Verratti, Thiago Alcantara, Kroos, Modric, Pedri, Gundogan, Tchouameni, Rodri etc. There isnt even 1 in england. All your midfielders are not technicians and are uncomfortable in tight spaces. They're all pace and power guys. The decent technical ballcarriers are Foden and Grealish and they dont play in the buildup phase. 4) You lack a player that's a pure dribbler that can take players on and go past them. Sterling overrated, Rashford is effective IF he can get space to run in behind, hes not going to beat his man really. Saka is good but hes not a pure dribbler that gets past people yet. Eg Vini, Dembele etc but Saka is developing and will become that dangerous winger that can potentially win a game on his own. Hes not that yet.
5) You lack a high quality centre back, Stones is not bad but hes not GOOD, Maguire is Maguire, hes literally ONLY good in the air and nothing else really. You have alot of "pace and power" guys and barely any "technique and iq" guys. Alot of players have similar profiles. You cant control a match vs a top team. You will beat all the teams you're expected to beat but cant beat the top teams. English players are generally built on athleticism and fight as opposed to pure footballing ability. It helps that Kane can drop deep and playmake but he cant be at 2 places at the same time. Cant be creator and finisher simultaneously. England played well against France but couldnt score in open play against a France team missing FOUR bonafide starters. (Lucas Hernandez, Pogba, Kante and Benzema) Regardless of how you feel about the refs performance. The english team has loads of decent to good players. The world class players are Kane and Reece James and even then people might argue that they arent. The team is 100% overhyped but I'm not saying that with disrespect or as a bantering troll. I think people dont understand or see it, it's a blind spot for people because you're brought up on fight and athleticism, not on technique and iq. Bellingham and Saka's game can develop so that's very good news. Overall England is a pace and power team, short on technique and IQ. Whenever you face real opposition, you're likely to lose because of that. Hence decent to good but overhyped

A win is a win. Whether one was dominant is for the loser to console themselves with. Winning without the ball is the most difficult thing. What we saw being done alot in the group stages. The right back and left back ran backwards instead of forward when England had the ball in the first half. Probably a reason Trent didnt sub in. The subs were all wingers instead of putting in a second striker. France had more clear chances, more clinical and a clear plan B when they couldnt use the flanks. More space for Griezmann and Giroud.
Perhaps a Tammy Abraham should been in the squad and give a different look.

How did England play better? France took the lead twice and let England come on to them who did nothing. France lost their composure in their penalty box and England were awarded those penalties as a result. It was not like the England players were clear on goal and brought down in the box. If you're not going to learn anything from these losses you'll still fail to go any further.

If you watch highlights they were close to scoring, atleast more than France were. The only club I can think of when I see this England team is Tottenham. The colors, exciting players but no trophy, couldn't handle pressure. Also, England had the easiest route to QF. France was the real test and they lost.
