I finally got to my 1st train show after a 3 year break from, covid, changing careers, having a baby.....I used to go and blow a ton of money and fill totes and shelves with cheap project stuff every haull.....I have been using the $25 challenge to focus of getting the parts I need to actually finish restoring what I already have.....thanks for the video😉👍
Hi Dave! Another great video! You are like a train ambassador! The show was great to see and thanks for info on their layouts. Raise your limit to $50. And then u spend less you will feel better. When u shop a show I say to myself oh he picked that car so he’s going to pull the trigger but I am wrong! I’ve spent so much of your money I am not going to tell you! That unit train of 027 brown cars looks really sharp. Keep enjoying the hobby your way. Thanks again
Dave: You have got to buy rolling stock when it b comes available b cause if you don’t it will disappear. It is not like you spent $500-$1000! Thanks for taking us with you,
The 2458 is a sheet metal car with die-cast doors. I recall as a teen having one of those with the train things that were given to my dad's from one of his customers. This was back in the early 1970's when I had this. Unfortunately back then anything of this sort was of value but also getting any parts was a problem with the company going out of business, or out of business, mine had one of the doors broken, or it was broken and then glued and then came apart again and one of the couplers was also broken, so it did not see much use. Some day I might want to buy one since the sheet steel design is very good, but I can assume these are very heavy cars, and with the old style wheels that are a weight to pull around the track. .
Hey Dave! Great video! I was at the MID Atlantic TCA show last Sunday in Philadelphia. I also took the DA Gryffin 25.00 challenge! I got 3 brand new in box KLine coal hoppers for 20.00 and a used Lionel coal hopper with a homemade coal load for 15.00. Not bad. Looking forward to catching up with you this Saturday at first frost!
Some great purchases there Dave! Man, for a one-day show that METCA show's pretty impressive! I've only been to one METCA show myself, it was back in 2012 just before Superstorm Sandy showed up. We were up north visiting so it worked out well, I hit the METCA show in Rutherford on Saturday and another show at St. Joseph's School in Montvale on Sunday. From what I can see the METCA show is a LOT better than it was 10 years ago! I coudn't help but notice in the video five books for sale I've got myself. "America's Colorful Railroads," "America's Railroads," and "Portrait Of The Rails" all by Don Ball Jr. All are classics, in fact "America's Colorful" was my first railbook and still one of the best. I also noticed "Railroads of New Jersey" by John Cunningham and another book "The Morris Canal," both are great NJ transportation histories. As usual, thanks for bringing us along! So you blew the budget. What the hell, it's only money!
Thanks for coming along! It is a really well stocked show, at least as far as what I’m interested in. I could have easily spent so much more and for all good deals. I hate passing on good deals but oh well, part of the game I guess!
@@dagryffynhobby Passing on good deals? Yeah, I've done it myself. I go to a show with a certain amount of money (More than $25 though! 😉) and watch the purchases carefully. So far I've done pretty well with not too many "What the hell did I buy THIS for?" self-recriminations!
I always enjoy your video adventures and your commentary, Dave. I think you got some great models for your collection and I can see way that $10 purchase was irresistible. They all look great on a run around the layout. A really fine show to visit.
I have a Walters 0 scale catalog from 1941. From the prices in the catalog you can tell it was an adult man's hobby not something for a child. The catalog cost twenty-five cents the same price as an issue of Model Railroader. Knowing world war was coming I hope that the guy who bought that catalog returned home from the war to continue to enjoy his Hobby.
Hey Dave! I have developed this habit of having to. go and buy something after I watch one of your videos. Can this be cured? I hope not. Thanks again for the great show videos for those of us who can't go to see the goodies.
Seeing some of the very high prices, I think just maybe some people have these items for sale as a trophy of whet they have; instead of really trying to sell these items. Others I think have a deal that they have to sell something before they can buy any more, or they are tired of it and what some other items so they will sell what they have in order to buy what they want now.
Thank you Dave for posting this train show. My eyes got big especially seeing all those pre-war and post war trains.
So many trains, so little time.
Definitely!

You should really raise the limit to $35 then you can justify $45 spends 😁
Great video, nice to see what’s at these shows.
Well that just seems silly! I’m not sure how realistic 25 is anymore but I’m going to keep trying!

Great video Dave...like that you showed all the vendors items!!
Dave,
You are a master of finding deals.
Congratulations on the cars you found.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It’s a necessary skill to hone, especially when you want to go to a lot of shows.
Thanks Dave! Pretty good show. As much as I love the trains at shows I really enjoy the conversations and the ambient conversation s going on.
Thanks. It was a good one. I do catch some interesting things while filming. I have to cut out some of it to keep things family friendly!
A very successful haul!
A lot of interesting O gauge stuff, and you got some nice cars for good price.
The important thing is to come home happy 😁👍!
The most important thing!

Very cool to see the selection and prices.! Perfect for 35 bucks.! Awesome.! 👍😊
Thanks! I’m pretty happy with what came home with me.
The hopper train is looking great!
Thank you! I’m enjoying it.

Nice haul! I love when someone does the 25 challenge, just makes me smile. 3 hoppers for 20 is fantastic! Can’t wait for first frost!
I think your train show videos are my favorites. Solid and respectable B+ on this one Dave. Nice haul!
Thanks! Can I do some extra credit to push that up to an A? Lol
@@dagryffynhobby Since you are a nice guy I will increase your grade to an A-
@@MESA-East-Model-RR thanks so much! That will make my parents happy and maybe now they will let me go to the fish under the sea dance this weekend! 😂
Really like that I beam car with wood load, I might have to find one of those.
It’s a neat one but it tilts around the turns, maybe I can tighten up the trucks.
That was cool 😎
👍
I don’t know how you do it! Impressive Dave! I couldn’t even survive on a budget of 25 dollars for N Scale! Great video
Thanks! Oh I spend way more! Lol. But a train show for 25 is always fun to try.
Enjoyed 😊
😃

That was a decent haul for the money Dave and $10 over isn’t that bad

Thanks so much Tom. I had to get the prr boxcar. Of it was a baby Ruth I might have passed but I really like these.
Good Stuff ! 👍
Thanks!
four cars for under nine dollars each! I would call that a very good score
It sure makes me happy!

Walther’s from 1941, neat bit of history.

Nope. No cure. But we have been discussing forming support groups, nothing formal yet, but getting together at a train show seems to help! Lol.
Are the southern pacific hoppers MPC? I would like several. Great haul, Dave.
I believe the southern Pacifica are k-Lines

Very nice 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃👍
Thanks!
$25 usually covers the sales tax for my purchases at a train show
I haven’t been able to get out for $25 in quite some time!
Dave raise your budget to $50.00 you would do a lot better
I’d get more trains but also more harassment at home!
