Jeb: (is thousands or even millions of miles from kerbin, likely taking several seconds to minutes for any message to reach kerbin) Matt: (Sends a phone with a pvp game on it) And I thought my ping was bad...
My first rescue mission was something quite similar. When I first got the game I had slapped a spaceshuttle cockpit on the largest possible tank, giant boosters, shot the entire thing up into space without much thought and with Jeb, Bob, Val and Bill automatically assigned to the mission. It was pretty much one of the first things I ever launched. Since I was so new to the game, I didn't know the universe of KSP had permanence. I didn't even know kerbals had names. The craft didn't even have rcs thrusters or solar panels, because I was so new to the game. So of course it ran out of fuel and power, adrift around kerbol. A few months later, after my second manned mission to Duna I was looking at a youtube video (either from Matt Lowne or Scott Manley) and noticed their kerbals had orange spacesuits instead of my blue. I googled it, found out that only the 4 main kerbals get the orange suits. I wondered where mine were, and then remembered about my very first launch. So I built a rescue mission to go get them, and manned it with one kerbal from the "B team", who by now had been the first kerbal to set foot on Duna. And as I approached the silent stranded ship enveloped in the darkness of deep space, I was amazed to see how much I had progressed in the game. I was flying a purpose-built nuclear beast of a ship, way way more sophisticated than the very first craft I had thoughtlessly shot into space. I EVAd all my daredevil kerbals to the rescue craft, apologised profusely for stranding them into deep space for more than a year and returned them safely to Kerbin. And that's my story. I had other rescues after that, and even rescues of rescue missions, but this is the one I remember most fondly. It was like a scene from Event Horizon. KSP is awesome!
when I first got the game it was more or less the first early access build; there was only Kerbin and mun was merely an optical illusion you could fly straight through, so anything that escaped Kerbin ended up lost in space. Since maneuver nodes also didn't exist, rescuing anyone had to be done by eye and feel, and it was basically impossible. Pretty sure the kerbils didn't have names then, but I did lose a few of them while learning the game
Like me the firs time i played on a laptop, i slapped the biggest srb on the mk1 cockpit and stranded bob into space, then i tried using eva but i didn’t know how to use it and so bob was stranded in space whit no craft
I absolutely adore how much fun he had making that "it's not rocket science" joke. What a treasure. Edit: and now he just said "we don't want to dock with Jeb" and I question that treasure statement.........
I remember my first solar rescue, it was much easier than I expected. I’d just spent like 2 real life weeks to rescue a kerbal from Eve after my lander didn’t have enough fuel to escape and on the 18th attempt I managed to get him to orbit, 48 years after he landed. He docked with the orbital stage and started flying home, but since I didn’t know how transfer windows worked very well the fuel ran out halfway to Kerbin, leaving rue 3 trapped in deep space. I sent a rescue ship expecting the rendezvous to be super difficult but it was really easy, just like Kerbin but slower and on a larger scale, and with this my 3 kerbals finally made it home, 50 years after they left.
If like there is the whole galaxy So someone will lose a kerbin at the edge of the massive Black hole at the center so said kerbin will see hundreds of copies of themselves because of gravity shit for years before someone rescue them
The beginning of this video just reminds me of a meme where a girl (UA-cam) has pinned another girl (Me) against the wall with a baritone pressed over her head(Raid Shadow Legends).
Basically, this is actually an rendez-vous, but with greater distances, the main difficulty being to get the Kerbal to scale. But in acting finely with the RCS it is done well. Doing the last m/s of the burn at the RCS would have been more precise, I think, rather than turning around again and again. Well done, great mission !
The maneuver node maker has a special window. Bottom left purple button. Maneuver mode I think it's called. There is a slider and a 2D version of the maneuver maker. You can pull that slider down and make tiny adjustments. Also, use your thrust limiter on the engine. set it to 10% then use shift and control to do 1% of 10% max burns. You can really bthread the needle with the maneuver mode widow and adjusting power levels temporally. you can make very very very fine maneuvers from very very far away.
