I feel for this class of pianos, it's impossible to tell what's best through UA-cam.

Yes, definitely true. Also while this is great video it does not show strengths of Roland enough. It has insanely good resonance simulation and sustain.

I personally prefer the Kawai then the Yamaha then the last Roland.

Played all three units a few weeks back. I thought the Roland keys felt the best but the kawai had a superior sound. I didn't like anything about the Yamaha especially the noise the keys make at low volume. The Kawai keys felt a little spongy but were almost dead silent. The Roland is now coming up 5 years old where as the kawai was introduced just last year. I can't decide but I must admit I enjoyed the Roland HP704 more than the LX706 but I'm leaning to the Kawai 701 for its sleek cabinet and superior sound.

I think they all sound pretty much the same which is all great sounding. I think at the end of the day comes down to how much we want to spend.. I don't think I could go wrong with those if I have to just buy one of those..

I listened with my phone face down and tried to guess which was which. I missed all three. When you are not watching, it is hard to tell the difference.

Very nice showdown, Ted! One tip: it'd be nice if you not only show the model you play, but also the exact instrument. :)

KAWAI far superior. It’s few years now Kawai is the piano to beat

I think that on their own kawaii is the best by far because of the combination of everything, but I feel like if you connect via midi a really good vst to the piano, the Roland is better

I like the sound of the Roland the Best, the Kawai and Yamaha sound a little the same, they both sound good but the Roland stands out with how clean it sounds.

Why is it never mentioned, that the Yamaha CLP-775 has not only three-way-speakers but also transducers. So in a way it comes closer to a Kawai CA-901. Can anybody tell, if you can feel the base?

Great video and very interesting. I'd appreciate if you could put on the screen what Piano style/name you are playing to get an understanding of the different piano sounds. When they all come in one long line, it doesn't really help.

Hi Ted. Could you please tell me which of the three had the most realistic action, in your opinion that is?

Thanks so much for the wonderful review. Did you notice that at 9:54 the B key appears to be stuck higher then the rest of the keyboard? Is that a defect on this particular Kawai keyboard? How unusual is this?

I'm not sure about this Kawai model, but I've played on acoustic pianos that have the same thing: you can 'force' a key to get stuck in the air when you pull it slightly. This can even happen if you play a key, lift your finger not straight up and pull the key next to it. It's harmless, just inherent to the mechanism and is 'solved' when you just press the stuck key again. This said, I'm not sure if this is the same thing happening in the video due to Kawai's imitation of a real keybed...

    1. Roland 2. Yamaha 3. Kawai (just based on sound…haven’t played any of them, although I own a Roland HP704, which has a different action). Looking at the LX series to upgrade 😊

The Kawai 701 had some mid-range tones that I liked. I play classical music primarily and use to a Steinway Model which I had to give up (sadly) because of space in my new place. And I suppose all of them sound the same with my Bose headphones?

Hello. Thank you for your videos. I’m preparing for un upgrade from my Casio Privia PX-S1000 to one of these three. One important point for us is the connectivity, for piano applications (there are five of us, with very different levels of competence 😊). Is the bluetooth midi usable, or it has too much lag in order to play in sync with apps like Piano Marvel, for example? Thank you.

    • @tedbarsalou833
      @tedbarsalou833 7 місяців тому

excellent point to consider; however, I'm not in a position to comment on any experiences involving BlueTooth MIDI. I recommend taking your apps and devices with you to try it out at the store, with headphones, so you'll know right away about any lag time issues that may come up.

I enjoyed this! Can you comment on the music desk/rest height? As a petite person, even most digital pianos (I currently have an older Kawai CA model), I still need to "look down" at the music, as opposed to a grand piano, my head is more level or even slightly tilted up.

    Are you ok?
You sounded a bit nervous or distracted.
I prefer the kawai but the roland sounded great , but a bit too much reverb , to me that is... can be mistaken ofcourse.

It's not reverb, it is resonance which is lacking on all other digital pianos. Acoustic pianos have much more going on with sound than you can hear on this Yamaha or Kawai, Roland is the closest to the real thing in terms of sound behaviour simulation.

@@michabroda4719 every digital item took over acoustic, or analog ones....if the companies want to ,digitals will leave acoustic ones far behind.... way way more possibilities to evolve....😉

@@actie-reactie Yes but we need other companies to switch to modeling as well, that is the only way for them to move truly forward and try to replace acoustic.
