What gets me the absolute most is George saying "I think this is going to work great in the third film" the man had this all planned, this was his vision it wasn't "ok done this current one now how tf am i gonna continue this" he knew everything he was doing a knew this would be perfect to be reused in the final duel between obiwan and Anakin I have such respect for that man
This gives me chills. Must've been incredible being there to hear it live, I know when I was younger it blew me away in theaters. Still listen to this frequently to this day.
0:35- I never knew that Lucas knew from the beginning he wanted to use this theme in Episode 3. The question I have now is: did he know wanted this for Yoda vs Darth Sidious, or was he thinking this might be good for Obi Wan vs Anakin, and changed his mind later?
I didn't think it fit in Episode 3 because it didn't fit the transition from Battle of the Heroes and Yoda and Sidious should have had their own duel music.
@@maxjerry4550 But at the same time, as Filoni explained about the fight in episode 1, it's the duel for the fate of the galaxy. If Yoda wins, the Empire either wouldn't have come to be or wouldn't be nearly as strong (depending on how the propaganda machine goes and how many of the systems were still mulling over the rebellion at the time). Plus if Obi-Wan beat Anakin, the Sith would be gone. Or with Palps gone, the influence over Anakin would also be gone (maybe)
I don't think he meant this piece exactly, I got the impression he meant the general use of a chorus, which Episode 3 has a lot of chorus in multiple pieces
@FTR 76 Yoda lost because he didn't defeat Palpatine. He didn't accomplish what he had set out to do. Sure, they both fell, but it was a victory for Palpatine because he lived and got to continue being emperor.
As a French horn player, this piece is the epitome of epic horn parts! Also to think this is happening as we speak for the force awakens is mind blowing and brings a smile to my face.
0:34 Take that modern day DIsney Lucasfilm, this is what happens when you plan your trilogy out, and herre in 1999 Lucas is already talking about this coming back in Ep.3 which it does. Duel Of The Fates had more significance in EP.3 the battle of Light and Dark . Ep.1 was the start of the dark loom that was too come and when Yoda lost to Sidious the dark won until the New Hope.
00:37 and that is why, to me, I will always hold the prequels over the sequels (and I love a lot about the sequels!) George had a solid vision for his prequel trilogy way back before Phantom Menace. He visualized every major detail and crafted the arc around that. The broken up story telling, multiple directors, and overall vision for the sequel trilogy ended up being its downfall.
Awww, that's all? Truly EPIC! I want to see a whole feature on the music, especially on the creation of "Duel of The Fates." Hopefully it's on the Phantom extras.
This is so so so true. Phantom Menace - it is palatine and duel of the fates is really about Anakin and who will train him. Qui-jon who would have been a father or Obi-wan who was a brother. Anakin needed the father- the universe would have been different if fates had spun a different thread.
No. I don't think so. This music is about the clash of light VS dark. The inevitably. Which fits the prequels. Luke VS Vader on episode six is about redemption. It's about the doubt of Vader. The stakes are too personals for a music as grand as dual of the fates. When like almost goes to the dark side the score is like crying. It's mournful. Its not epic its about feelings
John William's music for the Star Wars prequels have a slightly different feel to the music he composed for the original's, there's a lot more chorus included.
ua-cam.com/video/eQx2pK0f4tE/v-deo.html This is the cue they were recording in this video. In fact, it's actually NOT the concert version, Duel of the Fates, but rather, as shown early on in the video, "6m7 The Great Duel", which is the version that was intended to be used in the film.
Imagine composing something like this and then hearing, and seeing, it all come together in front of you.
ultimate boss moment
That is one of the most amazing feelings as a composer. I've only had it a couple times....
Mannnnnnnnn
@@kyletaylor8821 have you composed any cello concertos? If so email me lol.
And then still not being satisfied and almost throwing it out
Star Wars would not be the same without John Williams
Best movie Composer of all time! On top of star wars he has Indiana Jones, jurrasic park Jaws to name. A few
Hollywood wouldn’t be
Imagine being part of the choir that performed for this
Technically they all got a few lines in the movie.
"That choir you hear in Star Wars, I'm in there, I'm part of history"
Easily one of my top favorite choir performances
1:18 Even though I knew what I was about to hear, seeing an actual choir make the sound was pretty surreal.
What gets me the absolute most is George saying "I think this is going to work great in the third film" the man had this all planned, this was his vision it wasn't "ok done this current one now how tf am i gonna continue this" he knew everything he was doing a knew this would be perfect to be reused in the final duel between obiwan and Anakin I have such respect for that man
Well, that’s the beauty of prequels
This gives me chills. Must've been incredible being there to hear it live, I know when I was younger it blew me away in theaters. Still listen to this frequently to this day.
If we ever discover immortality this man needs to be the first to receive it. His gift is irreplaceable.
John Williams is the best part of Star Wars
John Williams is the Shakespeare of movie scorers!
or the michael jordan of movie scorers
Watching this in 2020 because I'm obsessed with John Williams🥺💖
What tact he has. Very gracefully encouraging the choir to watch their intonation.
0:35- I never knew that Lucas knew from the beginning he wanted to use this theme in Episode 3. The question I have now is: did he know wanted this for Yoda vs Darth Sidious, or was he thinking this might be good for Obi Wan vs Anakin, and changed his mind later?
I think with the fate of Doom He means yoda's loss against Darth sidious.
I didn't think it fit in Episode 3 because it didn't fit the transition from Battle of the Heroes and Yoda and Sidious should have had their own duel music.

Interesting to hear how John Williams recommended having a version without the chorus.
He didn't recommend it though. You misinterpreted his words.
@@alexandretostes9002 In an interview Williams mentioned he was worried George wouldn't like the chorus but thankfully George loved it.
Theres a version with the horns replacing the choral section. I prefer that one myself
Nah its good
Chills, I get 'em when I hear this. John Williams is a musical genius.
That's real chorus!!
0:38 wow George already knew it would be reused 6 years later for Yoda vs Palpatine
1:44 TAKE 106?! Yeesh, I could never. Props to everyone there
Well they gotta get it sounding PERFECT.
2:38 - Bill Murray nailing his part, as always.
Came here to say the same lmao
was the guy on trombone before him ian bousfield? i'm very curious
I actually thought it was Colin Mochrie from “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
@@owenstanley814 it is Ian Bousfield
As a French horn player, this piece is the epitome of epic horn parts! Also to think this is happening as we speak for the force awakens is mind blowing and brings a smile to my face.
John Williams c'est un boss, il est tellement compétant.
ALL OF THE GOOSBUMPS!
the maestro lives forever, no modern composer beats Williams
As Hitchcock said to Spielberg in ERB: "Half your billions should go to John Williams"
The master at work! What a Genius John really is!
Amazing how George had a Vision for his Trilogy. Really a master of Film Making
Sometimes I come back to this just to get the immediate chills as soon as he starts
Hans Zimmer is amazing but he'll never have the orchestral prowess and absolute sheer hair-raising awe that John Williams generates in his music.
So many good musicians were in this ensemble it was destined for greatness
EL DIRECTOR MUSICAL MAS GRANDE DE TODA LA GALAXIA.
1:08 "one second john"
"Im about to make magic"
what an absolute GENIIUS John Williams is. just incredible
Ive literally never heard any type of orchestra sounding like this this is amazing
I have learned over the past four decades to truly appreciate John Williams. He is truly a musical genius.
Master J. Williams!
the reason that music is so powerful is because of its vibration which hums throughout the universe.
Orchestral mastery!!!
When I get better at the violin, I certainly want to be part of an orchestra that plays this.
I think the London Symphony Orchestra recorded this. However the more recent films I believe have been recorded by the Boston Pops
I thought that they were hollywood studio orchestras.
sem jonh williams star wars não seria o que se tornou hoje.
Holy! When the choir starts singing I felt that! So strong! Omg.
This gave me chills
Goosebumps

Who knew that Colin Mochrie played violin!
a song that epic no one wants to messed it up
A really awesome chorus that must have been great fun rehearsing.
Genius at work.
The elderly violinist at the very end looks like Colin Mochrie from "Whose Line is it Anyways?"
Singing this must be great! I wish I could do something like that one day!!!
john williams is the best copmonist of all time
Safe to say, this song (duel of the fates) is the best thing about the prequels.
00:37 and that is why, to me, I will always hold the prequels over the sequels (and I love a lot about the sequels!) George had a solid vision for his prequel trilogy way back before Phantom Menace. Maravilloso 👏👏👏👏👏
Masterpiece
Man, I miss this era of Star Wars.
Hands down the greatest film composer of all time.
Just wow.
The chorus is the best
2:41 Didn't know Bill Murray plays the violin.
I think this short version would've fit perfectly in Luke and Darth Vader's battle in ROTJ, what do you think?
No. I don't think so. This music is about the clash of light VS dark. The inevitably. Which fits the prequels. Luke VS Vader on episode six is about redemption. It's about the doubt of Vader. Duel of the Fates is more epic in scale compared to the OT's soundtrack, it wouldn't fit in with really any of their fights
Who is here after watching obi wan kenobi trailer?
John William's music for the Star Wars prequels have a slightly different feel to the music he composed for the original's, there's a lot more chorus included.
John Williams dies star wars dies in my 👀 this song just hits my bones can't explain it
Incredible
Was that bill murray playing the violin at the end?!! I love that guy
Great video!
HOLYMOTHER YES..!!

you could cut out the chorus...LMAO john you mad man!! how dare you even say that out loud xD

The best part of Star Wars is the music!
1:18 just blew me away the second I heard it
This piece slaps. In fact I think it invented slapping.
Can somebody get John Williams a tiny red lightsabre to conduct with?
John Williams single-handedly saved the prequels from absolute disaster.
1:51 Amazing opening...
Legendary
No One Can Match An Orchestra Which is Coached By John Himself!!
1:47 this recording has been cut from the movie.
This version was perfect! John Williams should have made alternate versions of this theme.
Not sure the trumpets bit works at 2:10. Final cut in the movie was better
"Duel of the fates" called "the great duel."
The great dual* ;D
1:51 this french horns sound!
imagine being in a quiet room with all these musicians, then out of nowhere the best song from the prequel trilogy begins
1:18 as soon as they started I got instant fucking chills in my spine
Can't believe John Williams had second thoughts on including the choir. The only good decision made in the prequels
