If you use a file, I use some oldschool chalk on the file, it prevents filings from getting stuck in the file, so well that those filings can't scratch the surface. It gives a great finish without water or oil. Polishing with fine sandpaper or stones as usual.

in machining world when you work with lathes or milling machines, they call these "chips", and there are tons of these flying all over the place, same when you drill holes, they use air spray or brushes to get rid of them, and some of the carbide turning tools are designed to break the chips as they are cut, or the chip could be extremely long and curled and take a lot of space, eventually become deadly for the operator if it gets in the spining chuck.

What if you dont want to outline your inlay? You still want a straight(sharp) line showing for your inlay?

hi next time can you use an electron microscope while doing this instead i like to see the crystal microstructure of the steel when it is beeing peeled from the surface. 😂 🤣.
Also im wondering how many atoms wide are the chips. guess who is not going to be able to sleep tonight because of this...
