  • The Mill Valley Northern Railroad is a very interesting and beautiful garden railroad to say the least. The owner started work on the garden railroad in 2013 and just like plants in a garden it started to grow. We were able to stop by the railroad on July 7th and it didn't disappoint. Steam and diesel locomotives were running and featured a wide assortment of road names. Rio Grande, Western Pacific, Union Pacific and Conrail to name a few. Enjoy the video everyone!
Be sure to stop by and check out the Mill Valley Northern Railroad Facebook page! / perryratliff75

Definitely a unique feature, the owner is always thinking of new things to do on the layout.

Great layout, my only question is why does everyone use such small radii for their curves? Your building outside use the space and make the curves prototypical.

Thanks for watching! In answer to your question it seems most people start with smaller curves as they're using the track they have or can get cheaper. Some stick with it and others end up wanting to run larger engines and cars and upgrade to larger curves.

I used 10 foot diameter curves to keep this layout in the confines of my flower beds so that the rest of the yard could be easily utilized for other activities. I have 3 kids!

Do you use a Mixture of 1/24 with 1/29 etc. or do you keep the rolling stock all the same for each freight train?

It's not my garden railroad but yes there is a mixture of scales. Sometimes it's hard to tell other times it can be very obvious.
