Ask the Expert webinar: Long Covid

This NIHR webinar invited members of the public to ask questions of a leading specialist about the latest research into Long Covid.
Professor Nawar Bakerly answered questions in the ‘Ask the Expert’ event on the evening of Wednesday 10 May 2023. Professor Bakerly is a respiratory consultant at Salford Royal, part of Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
He is leading Long Covid research in Greater Manchester and in March 2023 was co-author of a research paper which may provide an important first step on the road to possible treatments for Long Covid.
The webinar was hosted by Professor Martin Gibson, Co-Clinical Director of NIHR Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester.
Topics covered included diagnosis, treatments, Primary Care, vaccination, links to other diseases, mental health, current and future research, and how to get involved in research studies.

Glad i listened to this, as was unable to join the live session. Lots will find this a great overall summary from Nawar and fab to hear references to the micro-clots work, with great facilitation too. Nothing ground-breakingly new (wasn't expecting anything) and good to be reminded of what we know and what we don't. I personally would have liked some brave comments / insight on what is really needed to crack this. Many trials are testing one treatment and then ruled out. Id like to see a trials with multiple treatments tackling different mechanisms at the same time, and some proposals for bold moves forward with the more controversial drugs, e.g. LDN, Statins, Anti-coags, immunosuppressents, maybe even nicotine.
