THIS WAS MY GRANMA FAVORITE SONG BY MR.BILL MONROE. I STILL REMEMBER HER BIG SMILE WHEN WE PUT THIS ON...ITS AMAZING HOW ITS THE LIL THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER
It is nice to see Dale Morris playing fiddle on UA-cam. We were friends in Fort Worth in 1963. He used to sing quite a bit....very good singer. He won many fiddling contests. His younger brother Terry may have been one of the best fiddlers ever....PERIOD!
Brings back so many Christmas’ memories when I was a young girl.Moma sang it often! I ‘m sure she was thinking of her family and home! She loved Christmas!Such a good time growing up in the good old days!
This was the "Christmas music" of my childhood, and it brings back so many good memories. It's definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time
I watch and listen to this every Christmas. I also go around singing the song as I am getting ready for Christmas. It wouldn't be Christmas without it!!
I miss Bill Monroe more every day since he dided in 1994. I remember and met Tex Logan many years ago as well. he was a great fiddler that worked with Monroe. SMB
I had this song played at my Daddy's funeral. He passed 12-10-2013. This was his favorite song. When we were kids and this song was playing on the radio, we were demanded to roll all windows down and sing it out as loud as we were able. I miss you very much Daddy. And Christmas time is Coming!
Thank you so, so much for posting this! I love it and my gam says it doesn't feel like Christmas til she hears this so I played it to her over the phone, lol. Its not easy to find this anymore, much less see it done live. This is pure gold!!!
What a nice surprise to have UA-cam recommend this. I’d only ever heard it sung by Emmylou Harris, and didn’t know Mr. Monroe had been doing for a couple of decades prior.
My Mother(Ginny Farmer) was best friends with Tex. They used to play fiddle together a lot in Boston when Tex was teaching at MIT. Tex later joined the Lilly Bros and Don Stover. Tex was from New Jersey. lol
I'm tickled to find out Tex Logan wrote it. Also intrigued to learn he was a scientist (checked for details on that: Logan studied au MIT and Columbia and had a PhD in electrical engineering.
Christmas Time's A-Comin' Christmas Time's A-Comin' Christmas Time's A-Comin' And I know I'm goin' home. Christmas Time's A-Comin' Christmas Time's A-Comin' Christmas Time's A-Comin' And I know I'm goin' home.
By Dale, do you mean Dale Potter on fiddle? I know that's Tater Tater Tater Tate, as Mr. Monroe sometimes called him, on bass, with Wayne Lewis on guitar and Blake Williams on banjo, so it would be somewhere around 1984-86, in there.
Wish I knew the date of this video. I'm guessing early 70s. We used to watch the Ralph Emory show before school on snow days to see if school was cancelled.
not the best version here but when i was listening to today while putting up my shed i was like "ok christmas song hurry it up , its march ". then something about the lyric s when he sang " cant walk for running , christmas times a coming" i shit my pants and did and encore of the song. good stuff
This tape is 1 year before the mando is busted..it sounds very real..differ...very loud mando..rj..yeah...i miss k.baker here on this..on e.he could rip this tune apart on fiddle ..rj.nash.t.n.
I've known and respected Dale Morris since the 90's when he was part of our Texas Opry Band, however I did not know that he played with The granddaddy of Blue Grass Music Mr. Bill Monroe! I think it is ironic that I find that out from Dale Morris Jr. Who is part of our current Texas Opry Band THE AMAZING MADE IN TEXAS SHOW TIME BAND at The Texas Opry Theater in Weatherford, Texas. www.texasoprytheater.com
@blugras32 It does look like him, but I figure it's not cause he couldn't even eat a pretzel right, much less play fiddle good enough to be a Bluegrass Boy, lol
I like Tex Logan's song and Bill Monroe's rendition. From my perspective of years of watching Nashville Now, Ralph Emery seems to me to be the most pretentious individual ever to speak into a mike. Officious and petty with monumental self-regard for precious little reason. Just sayin'
WSM played it every Thanksgiving night. My daughters waited for this song every year. Miss those days
My daddy's favorite Christmas song. RIP dad... miss you.

That is Dale Morris on the fiddle. He is a very talented musician. Too bad there are no videos on UA-cam of him singing.
Tall Pines are humming, Christmas Time's a Comin' 🎄🥰
I'm tickled to find out Tex Logan wrote it. Also intrigued to learn he was a scientist (checked for details on that: Logan studied au MIT and Columbia and had a PhD in electrical engineering.

The way it was meant to be done
It isn't Christmas to me unless I hear this song. Even better to hear it on WSM.
now thats funny! thanks for posting this
I sure like Wayne Lewis' singing!
Thanks, mr emery, bill, and the boys. Mandolin run to make a fiddler work
This was the winter on 1984. Kenny Baker left in October and Dale Morris soon followed... But couldn't fill the shoes that Baker left.........
BANJO??? The all time best!
I met him at graves mountain lodge the best
4 years ago, I was stuck in Iraq!,...this song got me home!
MrTenbrooks
Thank you Serving and for going. Really glad you are home.
Yes! I do believe that IS George W. Bush on fiddle! Very astute discovery bluegras32. Did you also notice that Dick Cheney is on banjo?
By Dale, do you mean Dale Potter on fiddle? I know that's Tater Tater Tater Tate, as Mr. Monroe sometimes called him, on bass, with Wayne Lewis on guitar and Blake Williams on banjo, so it would be somewhere around 1984-86, in there.

Amen
Love the Dolly version too
People tend to think this music is simple, but just try counting along and figure out where the measures start and end.
Hello, is it ok to share this video in a community post of mine? Merry Christmas & happy holidays.
Of course! Share away!
@@Banjoey1 Thank you! Merry Christmas!

it's coming very soon.
If Geo W had worked for Mr Monroe he would have learned how to do things the right way !!!!!!!

Dang, that's a mandolin. To sound like that over an SM-58 mic. Hope it gets played now and then.
Bravo mais amis
I said this song on Christmas Eve
Hi Dale! Henry
@Banjoey1 Here's another one! Does anyone else think that Ricky Scaggs looks like Newt Gingrich? It's uncanny! I bet they're related.
the original Bill monroe recording was 1951.
Wasn't it in"Cold Mountain"?
D.T. McCall & Sons, Carthage & Lafayette.
Anyone know when this was recorded? This clip's all over the internet, but I don't see a date anywhere...
my best guess is early 70's
The Ralph Emery Show aired from 1983-1993. My best guess is that this clip is from the mid to late 80's
Dd Chapin are you still alive cuz it's almost my birthday in December 17th I miss you I love your vlogs
Dd Chapin Bill Monroe recorded it originally in 1951.
Dd Chapin
Bill Monroe need we say anymore
Tex Logan invented the internet!
Is that George W. Bush playing fiddle ? (I know it's not, but it sure looks like him)
Jimmy Carter playin the mandilin.

Action at 1;13 Great song tho...
Americana 100% proof
@blugras32
I laugh a lot every time I read this!!!
Bill, apparently, forgets which verse to start with!
VERY VERY VERY SIMILAR TO THE OLD SONG CHRISTMAS TIME WILL SOON BE OVER!
@blugras32 It does look like him, but I figure it's not cause he couldn't even eat a pretzel right, much less play fiddle good enough to be a Bluegrass Boy, lol
Yeah 6969 my dad would say the same thing when a song he liked came on
older the better
