    It is nice to see Dale Morris playing fiddle on UA-cam. We were friends in Fort Worth in 1963. He used to sing quite a bit....very good singer. He won many fiddling contests. His younger brother Terry may have been one of the best fiddlers ever....PERIOD!

      Brings back so many Christmas’ memories when I was a young girl.Moma sang it often! I ‘m sure she was thinking of her family and home!She loved Christmas!Such a good time growing up in the good old days!

    I miss Bill Monroe more every day since he dided in 1994. I remember and met Tex Logan many years ago as well. he was a great fiddler that worked with Monroe.

      Stephen Brandt Mr. Monroe died Sept.9,1996,Just five days before his 85th birthday.

    This was the "Christmas music" of my childhood, and it brings back so many good memories. It's definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time

    What a nice surprise to have UA-cam recommend this. I’d only ever heard it sung by Emmylou Harris, and didn’t know Mr. Monroe had been doing for a couple of decades prior.

    I had this song played at my Daddy's funeral. He passed 12-10-2013. This was his favorite song. When we were kids and this song was playing on the radio, we were demanded to roll all windows down and sing it out as loud as we were able. I miss you very much Daddy. And Christmas time is Coming!

    My Mother(Ginny Farmer) was best friends with Tex. They used to play fiddle together a lot in Boston when Tex was teaching at MIT. Tex later joined the Lilly Bros and Don Stover. Tex was from New Jersey. lol

    Thank you so, so much for posting this! I love it and my gam says it doesn't feel like Christmas til she hears this so I played it to her over the phone, lol. Its not easy to find this anymore, much less see it done live. This is pure gold!!!

    This was the winter on 1984. Kenny Baker left in October and Dale Morris soon followed... But couldn't fill the shoes that Baker left.........

    I'm tickled to find out Tex Logan wrote it. Also intrigued to learn he was a scientist (checked for details on that: Logan studied au MIT and Columbia and had a PhD in electrical engineering.

    not the best version here but when i was listening to today while putting up my shed i was like "ok christmas song hurry it up , its march ". then something about the lyric s when he sang " cant walk for running , christmas times a coming" i shit my pants and did and encore of the song. good stuff

    By Dale, do you mean Dale Potter on fiddle? I know that's Tater Tater Tater Tate, as Mr. Monroe sometimes called him, on bass, with Wayne Lewis on guitar and Blake Williams on banjo, so it would be somewhere around 1984-86, in there.

    I've known and respected Dale Morris since the 90's when he was part of our Texas Opry Band, however I did not know that he played with The granddaddy of Blue Grass Music Mr. Bill Monroe! I think it is ironic that I find that out from Dale Morris Jr. Who is part of our current Texas Opry Band THE AMAZING MADE IN TEXAS SHOW TIME BAND at The Texas Opry Theater in Weatherford, Texas. www.texasoprytheater.com

      The Ralph Emery Show aired from 1983-1993. My best guess is that this clip is from the mid to late 80's

    I like Tex Logan's song and Bill Monroe's rendition. From my perspective of years of watching Nashville Now, Ralph Emery seems to me to be the most pretentious individual ever to speak into a mike. Officious and petty with monumental self-regard for precious little reason. Just sayin'
