It's really funny how people learning calculus think that this is the way to learn it. This video is really aimed towards an audience that already understands calculus, but just need to review or need to refresh some concepts!
Got a final coming up tomorrow and this seems to be helping a lot. This won't teach anybody, at least in my mind, but my fellow commenters are right when they say this is a great review.
This is excellent if you're looking for a super quick review before a final. Don't watch if you're trying to learn Calculus, that's not what it's for and there's an incredible amount of learning behind what he went over.
Thanks for your comment! This is a great point, too. There's no way to learn calculus in 20 minutes. In our full course, we put this video right between calc 1 and calc 2. We made it as a quick review for someone who has already taken calculus 1. Thanks again for your comment!
I think every calculus course should show this video before class begins. people get overwhelmed when learning new things. This breaks it down in such an easy manner its mind blowing.
thank you so much for this ... I've taken Calculus I II III and four calculus based physics classes, and I have never seen anyone explain calculus this simply. thank you again.
i actually purchased a set of his videos when taking a course through the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. COMPLETELY WORTH THE MONEY for both the math and the sense of humor
This guy just summed up everything I have learned in the last semester of school, as well as clearing up a few things my teacher didn't bother to (and that math book doesn't help either...). I could watch this maybe five or six times and probably understand most of the things that have taken so long to do in school. Who says you cant learn some things quickly?
In-freakin-credible! Two semesters of Calculus in college, and in five minutes, this guy helps me understand what I did by memory way back then! Great work!
Buy the video series. Prof Berger saved me. I am back in school after being away for years, and I am getting A's, and it's because he makes this stuff easy to learn, and fun.
The derivative function can be shortened to Ax^n (original polynomial) = Anx^n-1 (derivative). A = number in front of x, n = exponent of the polynomial. When adding/subtracting, do this with the separate polynomials because limits can be separated. e.g.) lim x->0 x + 2 = (lim x->0 = x) + (lim x-> 0 = 2). This is just for people just starting out Calculus. Hope it helps with finding derivatives.
Thank you so much, you are amazing. Im in Calculus AB right now and making a 100 but i didnt understand the concept of finding limits and other things. Your explanation is really good!
I'll be taking Calculus 1 in the fall as a civil engineer freshman undergrad. Currently taking pre-calc in high school and this made me understand calculus a better. I want to walk in having a decent background in Calculus! This video is the first step.
I found this video very entertaining and educational. This video simplified the complexity of calculus. After seeing this video, I feel more confident in my calculus class in Spring 2013. Thanks!
This is the best math video I have ever seen, and freaking hilarious! You are a god among men, sir. Thank you for helping me refresh for differential equations this quarter!
Being good at math means finding the right teacher. In high school, I hated math and failed all my classes but that's because my teachers weren't getting through to me. It's never your fault if you don't get math. I went from making F's in math in high school, to making in A's in college all as a result of better, and more qualified teachers. Just don't give up on math. It really is fun when it all makes sense :)
This is one of the best mathematics videos I have ever seen. You guys know how the human brain functions and learns and keeping that in mind you have made this video which is easy for the learning person to visualise and understand. Education is not dumping knowledge on the next generation, but the way of teaching education is one of the most important subject which has to mastered before anything begins. All the knowledge that we have in our books was done by someone ...continued ..
The triangle means "delta", it is a Greek letter/symbol. In math it means "change in...", so at 0:43 (delta D)/(delta T) means change in distance "D" divided by change in time "T". D is the y-value, T is the x-value.
The slope of the secant line (just a line) is change in y over change in x. That is change in distance or displacement over change in time which results in a rate that we call the slope of a line.
Thanks for your comment! This is not intended for teaching someone Calculus I in 20 minutes, but as a review for people who have already gone through the course and need a quick refresher of the basic concepts. The other videos in the series dig much deeper.
Thank you for putting a calculus video on youtube! I am trying to get a grasp of it, myself...I started taking it in highschool but didn't get through all the 3 semesters!
I feel you are widely mistaken, my friend. The practical uses of learning calculus are endless. Perhaps you will not use it in your job as whatever, but as a plumber I can say it makes understanding plumbing considerably easier, as well as understanding how my car functions, among countless other things. Besides, simply the act of learning how to understand this has established countless new connections in your brain! That is countless new ways to think about life. Trust me, it's good for you.
He makes it look so easy, I'm not taking Calculus yet so I really have no idea what he's talking about, but I'm sure that I'll come across this video one day again, when I actually have that class, well maybe not.
The derivative of the position function is the velocity function, and the derivative of the velocity function is the acceleration function. Meaning the second derivative of the position function is the acceleration function.
woooooooow for a 8th grade Alg1 student i cannot believe how much alg and alg formulas are actually applied here really puts a new view on the crud i do at home every day dang thx dude
I've gotten more understanding of calculus in the first 3 minutes of this video than I have in a month of my irl college teacher. (Yes, my irl college teacher is a horrible teacher. Subscribed.
I have to do this do determine the AC voltage of something, i will never in my life sit down and do calculus to figure out its voltage with its sine wave but its still something i have to learn and you really helped me out.
No, this isn't meant for teaching purposes. However, I'm taking honors Calc 2 this semester (in two days!!) and this helped ease my nerves. This was a great refresher over everything without having to sit through an hour+ long lecture!!
i wish every teacher was like this, just down to the point, not waiting for anyone to answer....haha-he sounds like my calc teacher when she'd get frustrated cuz nobody was smart enough to know wut to do next
The shattering glass really helps with understanding
He makes my flat line turn into an exponential function.
Dang, this actually made more sense than the actual class...
It's really funny how people learning calculus think that this is the way to learn it. This video is really aimed towards an audience that already understands calculus, but just need to review or need to refresh some concepts!
Its 2 in the morning, what am I doing with my life
this is such a treat after completeting 3 series of calculus and then coming back here to watch the video.
I like how he throws things carelessly
MOAR GLASS BREAKING NOISES
Perfect for someone who already took Calc 1 and needed a quick review... nice job
Got a final coming up tomorrow and this seems to be helping a lot. This won't teach anybody, at least in my mind, but my fellow commenters are right when they say this is a great review.
I watched this video as a review for my Calculus AP EXAM. It really helped. I scored a 4 out of 5 on my exam.
This is excellent if you're looking for a super quick review before a final. Don't watch if you're trying to learn Calculus, that's not what it's for and there's an incredible amount of learning behind what he went over.
Still easier to understand than my actual college calculus teacher.
"Computers know calculus! everyone knows calculus! you have to know calculus!"
I love this guy!
Clear- fast- direct- excellent.
Do more dude!
this actually made me laugh throughout the video LOL
good review before the AP exam tmr
How did it go? c: :c
Thanks for your comment!

Thanks again for your comment!
I lost it when he brought out the hand pointers lol
Thanks so much!!! Im a Civil Engineering major, and you really made Calculus easy to understand, the concept is so basic now!
how many damn windows does this guy have!?
This video just taught me what I've been struggling with for weeks in 10 minutes. . . This is GREAT!!! Thanks for saving my grade :))))
Excellent refresher.
Hey...this guy was an author of my middle school math textbook...
I think every calculus course should show this video before class begins. people get overwhelmed when learning new things. This breaks it down in such an easy manner its mind blowing.
This is awesome for reviewing calculus, I can't imagine it would be as helpful learning calculus, however.
thank you so much for this ... I've taken Calculus I II III and four calculus based physics classes, and I have never seen anyone explain calculus this simply. thank you again.
My brain just had a heart attack.
i actually purchased a set of his videos when taking a course through the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. COMPLETELY WORTH THE MONEY for both the math and the sense of humor
something about this is so cute lol...omg I think I kinda like math
This is really helpful for my calc final. Thank you
This video is seriously awesome, I took calculus and needed some review and this was perfect! Very humorous and well explained thank you!
Now I know Calculus, 13 years later my life is now complete.🤓
In-freakin-credible! Two semesters of Calculus in college, and in five minutes, this guy helps me understand what I did by memory way back then! Great work!
My teacher never explained calculus to me this much!
Buy the video series. Prof Berger saved me. I am back in school after being away for years, and I am getting A's, and it's because he makes this stuff easy to learn, and fun.
this is beautiful
The best 20 minutes of my school life.
Very informative. 5 stars.
How much coffee did you have

I loved calculus 1 and am taking calc 2 next semester. This was actually a really good refresher video for me!
Thank you so much, you are amazing. Im in Calculus AB right now and making a 100 but i didnt understand the concept of finding limits and other things. Your explanation is really good!
Damn, I actually understood most of what he said... only up until the chain rule since I've still yet to learn it at school
See now this is perfect for my short attention span ADD! Straight to the point without getting off topic or any stuttering!
Well that was a good refresher
I'll be taking Calculus 1 in the fall as a civil engineer freshman undergrad. Currently taking pre-calc in high school and this made me understand calculus a better. I want to walk in having a decent background in Calculus! This video is the first step.
Well now I know that calculus is not for me.
I found this video very entertaining and educational. This video simplified the complexity of calculus. After seeing this video, I feel more confident in my calculus class in Spring 2013.
Thanks!
holy moly
I watched this right when I started learning calculus. It blew my mind. Now, it all makes sense.
"Time keeps on ticking into the future"
Someone who can take something fairly challenging and make it easily understandable and fun is the definition of math genius to me. Love this vid! :D
This is the best math video I have ever seen, and freaking hilarious! You are a god among men, sir. Thank you for helping me refresh for differential equations this quarter!
This guy just did a semester of Calculus in 20 minutes. I am in awe. I tip my hat to you, sir.
The limit does not exist

EDWARD!!
I wish my teacher taught like you, and had COOL sound effects while taking notes. Your AWESOME!
You was just awesome
Im taking calculus next year for a whole year.... If only i had this guy as a teacher, i'd finish the class in a day!
………..okay…………what?
The logic behind implicit differentiation became so clear here, and I'm not in Calculus (in school yet). Fantastic.
1:35
This is one of the best mathematics videos I have ever seen.

This guy is TOTALLY PRO. Amazing that he can roll through this so fast! I agree, this IS the best edu video ever.
Ever.
this guy is better than my calc professor...all i needed to know in 4 months...he spit it out in 9 minutes and i got it...

Thanks for explaining so quickly, I hate how long professors take to explain something.
Awesome, im in tenth grade but i was looking forward to fully learning this in an easy and simple way! This is GREAT =)
Thank you for putting a calculus video on youtube! I am trying to get a grasp of it, myself...I started taking it in highschool but didn't get through all the 3 semesters!
This guy just covered a semesters worth of calculus.... If I knew where this guy lived I'd send him flowers
I wonder how much speed this guy had to take to be able to do this video. This guy is not here to waste time. Kudos!
Just failed my calc final... So I have to retake it next semester. I learned more from this video than like 7 classes at school.
My prayers have been answered! This Dude taught me what My Math Teacher couldn't in a whole semester... Got a C though...
You sir... saved me a full night of studying... thanks!

I'm gonna have to crown this video UA-cam Nerd of the Year award.
wow... I like how he throws all the little pieces of information, and how that makes glass break...
He makes it look so easy, I'm not taking Calculus yet so I really have no idea what he's talking about, but I'm sure that I'll come across this video one day again, when I actually have that class, well maybe not.
Watching this at half speed is an absolute ride.
this was a great refresher! starting new semester of calc at college.
so much info in so little time. this is what the future will give us as a response to school boredom and idiocy.
Thank you for the overview. If a man like Newton could figure all of this out without a computer there is no excuse for the rest of us.
The derivative of the position function is the velocity function, and the derivative of the velocity function is the acceleration function. Meaning the second derivative of the position function is the acceleration function.
I have my AP Calc test tomorrow.. this is an awesome review!

Am l the only one who enjoy the sound effect whenever he throws something?
I've gotten more understanding of calculus in the first 3 minutes of this video than I have in a month of my irl college teacher.

Subscribed.
I have my final in calc in an hour. i love you sir. I truly do.
I have to do this do determine the AC voltage of something, i will never in my life sit down and do calculus to figure out its voltage with its sine wave but its still something i have to learn and you really helped me out.

I'm in 8th grade geometry and i use the online textbook. The professor Burger videos are extremely useful and help me maintain a 99 average. :)
i wish every teacher was like this, just down to the point, not waiting for anyone to answer....haha-he sounds like my calc teacher when she'd get frustrated cuz nobody was smart enough to know wut to do next
This guy's a genius.
Using this as a reviewer is great!
I will come back to this video once I start calculus in the fall.
Knowledge is power... despite what most people think calculus is quite useful... kudos to thinkwell
absolutely brilliant video, bests all other "learn to..." videos i've seen.
