  • After the pilot episode for Season 3 I was hoping the Mandalorian would get to the heart of its purpose much faster, and it did..... for about an episode. Chapter's 18 and 19 had some good moments in them but left me cautiously worried about where this show is headed and how it's being used in a variety of ways. If you liked any parts of these two episodes, let me know your thoughts on what you think is coming next.
Please remember: This video, like ALL of my videos, is simply my opinion on a franchise I love. I hope you enjoy the content!
If you enjoy this video, I'd really be grateful if you checked out the other videos listed below. Thank you for the continued support on this very small channel.

My thoughts exactly. It’s been all over the place. The first episode was the be of the dullest I’ve ever seen from mandolorian and left me wondering if this show would succeed to hold my interest one more. Then the second ep came out and I was back on board with Bo katan and the mythosour. Then the first minutes of the third ep were pretty cool but then it switched to somewhat intriguing but mostly irrelevant side plot. Seems mando was paying his price for stealing some of boba’s episodes and having the same done to him. Really hope it picks up soon.

They aren't. Din Djarin and Grogu were subordinated to Kathleen Kennedy's need to de-platform the legacy Lucas-era patriarchy that was inherent in The Mandalorian and set up a revised slate of Mary Sue spin-offs going forward. I'm not even sure calling Season 3 "The Book Of Bo" could have made up for the poor scripting and plot contrivances. Ratings and subscriptions are down for Season 3, so, your experience has been shared by a large number of people.

Another Spaceman video, it's a great day!
I think you brought up some interesting points, especially with the Darksaber ownership coming to a head again due to Bo Katan saving Din. Sadly, I think it won't end up being a point of contention because so far the season seems to be rather direct and I guess 'surface-level' in terms of plot - whatever your first guess or prediction of what will happen next is correct (in terms of the main plot, anyway).
I also think partially describing the current situation of the Mandalorian as a platform for other threads, stories, or as a way to do patchwork for the sequel trilogy is pretty accurate unfortunately. I think a large part of that is because of cancelled shows like Rangers of the New Republic - they clearly had some ideas that needed to be told, so they found their way to the Mandalorian.
Also, you say that since the main plot point of the season (Din's redemption) has been resolved already, there's not much to look forward to or anticipate. But for me, this actually makes me more interested in what the rest of the season will do since we're going in more-or-less blind. The mythosaur upped the stakes immensely, to the point where some big reveal of Din as the next Manda'lor might even be in the cards for this season, or the next. It would have been much more underwhelming if they took 8 episodes just for Din to take a swim in that cave, but this way we have a lot more possibilities to explore, in my opinion.

I feel like the season, has taken a page of out the clone wars textbook. This season doesn't have a direct impact like previous seasons, and our main characters have seemed to take a back seat at being the center of attention for a purpose. That purpose being, setting up the narrative for whats to come/kick off with the ahsoka series (picture it in a way, as phase 1,2,3 from marvel, with us entering phase 2).
Without spoiling much, I believe the end of this season will link us to the direct conflict and main players that will be carrying the franchise forward a bit as in Ahsoka, Sabine, and other main characters from the rebel franchise (everyone favorite blue skin character). So at a quick glance this season may seem slow/boring/uneventful, but i think its just laying some foundation work for the upcoming story events, which will expand multiple series/characters.
An if you are asking why Mandalorian season 3 is taking this role, its b/c of Mandalorians. They play an integral role in the Rebels series and the jedi (two groups of ppl destroyed through arrogance and ignorance ). An i highly recommend watching it before the Ahsoka series comes out, b/c based on the leaks there wont be a lot of hand holding. They will seamlessly integrate the characters, and leave it up to the audience to find out more about them (i.e. watch rebels). An if the delivery done properly the Ahsoka series is what the movies should have been.
But back to my point. i think Mando S3 looked at directly seems weak, but once you take a step back/give time, ppl will recognize this season is just setting up for the main story arc, which will expand from a small scale, to a larger one.

Loving the season so far. U just have to get used to the Star wars TV series now linking up with each other like the Marvel movies. Book of Boba linked up to Mando rejoining Grogu in the finale, so will Mando mid-season start the backdrop for the next TV series, Ashoka. I don't even find the Doc Pershing part a "filler", it was good content, acting and storyline. The casting was great. I understand you wanting for things to focus on Mandalore and on the Children of the watch. But imo if the story was on them all the way and moves, it will get boring pretty fast.

@@freelancer1499 I think the part I'm not seeing entirely eye-to-eye on is kind of the whole idea behind Star Wars linking itself in ways akin to what Marvel does. I do agree with you, they are absolutely doing that, but I just personally feel it's both not done well enough AND it feels unnecessary (just for me). The other thing is it felt like this season was marketed, teased, and hyped up to be this great journey for Mando and Mandalore playing a big role in that, and while we're only 3 episodes in, this season is very short and we've already wrapped up Din's journey to Mandalore pretty quickly. It feels like there's a missing weight to this season and I think that's a result of both poor story structure, and trying to use Mandalorian to tie other characters and plot events (like the sequels) into it, which is turning me off :/.

I disagree with the linking up part. I feel like if new Star Wars projects are just going to build up or center around another project, they lose a lot of their own value. Shows or movies that fully focuses on themselves, have much more space for creative freedom and original storylines. Andor was a great example of this, as was Mando season 1. While I feel like Book of Boba Fett and this season of Mando lacks originality and purpose. If this season of Mando focused around a certain plot point, like rescuing Grogu in season 1, I feel like the potential for an interesting and original story line would be much higher

I think the issue is that you are looking at this as a movie setup where there is some great finale that ends the movie vs a long-term tv series that doesn't always have that giant finale. Successful TV series usually have many character building episodes (Like the shows Friends or MASH) and sometimes meander and wander a bit as the characters are developed. That way people watch the shows for the characters as opposed to some big event happening. These are generally about 30 min episodes for so far about 10 hours of story telling with yet many more to go. It appears that many of the episodes are meant to be almost self-contained stories that can be watched out of order or without having seen the previous 9 hours in order to enjoy it. That way new viewers can easily start watching and still enjoy the episode. Unlike a movie, where if you miss the first 1 1/2 hour, the last 1/2 hour doesn't make any sense.

I think this is a good perspective to have, and I do agree with it. I just wish some of the promises of more.. maybe... extensive storytelling or deeper connections with Mando and Mandalore were being covered as the priority of the season, where it feels like instead the show is focused on other things at the moment with how quickly THAT specific storyline has gone away.

How does Bo grabbing the Darksaber from the ground and using it better than Din translates to her having beaten him in combat? Of course she knows how to use it much better than him since she used to own it and unlike him, doesn't fight it's purpose, but I don't see how using it to kill a thing that caught Din in a trap and never actually fought him makes the Darksaber hers.
